CHAPTER 5: ALTERNATE UNIVERSE?

1658 Words
Savannah’s POV (Back to the present) I leaned back to the couch and looked at Tia. “I thought I was just lucky to dream of him again and just accepted it as my new reality,” I said with a sigh. “So you saw a handsome man in the middle of the night and just decided that you were dreaming of him? Even after seeing that you were in your own room in the same dress you wore and that you remembered every detail of it the next day? What kind of dream can we remember with such details?” She rubbed her forehead in frustration. “Why exactly would you think that it was a dream in the first place? I could have understood it if it was just one day but to think that it happened for a month and yet you didn’t realize it wasn’t a dream?” she asked, looking at me as if I was the biggest i***t she had ever seen in her entire life. While she wasn’t wrong to think so, I had my reasons… “I was so upset that night and when he appeared, looking just like the man in the book, I thought I was dreaming, okay? There was no reason for me to believe that the hero of the book I read would really stand in my room, looking at me as if I was the most fascinating woman he had ever seen. I mean, me? Would a guy look at me like that in reality?” “Why? What is wrong with you? You are drop dead gorgeous and only idiots like George would be stupid enough to not admire what he got when he had you,” Tia said with a frown. “I know I am pretty, but you should see him to know what I am saying. Tia, he was a freaking God! And we are going off the topic. We are talking about him standing inside my room. Not meeting in the mall or park.” She looked at me thoughtfully and I pushed on. “You know how paranoid I am. Always locking the doors, and windows to make sure burglars or rapists won’t sneak inside,” I said. “That night too, it was all locked. So were the other days. With doors and windows locked from inside and appearing untouched the next day, I thought for sure I was dreaming. How else would I explain the man appearing inside my room?” “Well, he definitely came inside the room and we have proof of that, don’t we?” she asked, looking pointedly at my stomach and I followed her gaze. A strange warmth filled my chest as love for the new life bloomed inside me. How could I love someone whom I haven’t even met yet? “Where exactly is this book, anyway?” Tia asked, snapping me out of my trance. I looked at her and nodded hesitantly. It was the only thing I had to remember my dream man, and I didn’t want to share it with anyone. Not when Tia. Well, that was not exactly true. I had something more to remember about him now, something far more precious than a book. I clutched my stomach with a small smile. Our baby... I went to my bookshelf and slowly pulled the book out. After he stopped coming to my dreams, I had spent days staring at his image in the book, but then it got too painful and I started avoiding it. And now, seeing his gorgeous face in the book, my heart skipped a beat. God, I loved him so much… Where are you, my dream man? We are waiting for you, me and our baby. Come to us soon… I held his picture close to my heart and tears fell down my eyes. I hope you are fine. I know you wouldn’t abandon me just like that. Whatever happened to you, please be fine for us… I wiped my tears before taking the book to Tia. She took one look at the picture and her eyes widened.  “Whoa! Did he look like this in real life too? If so, I don’t blame you for thinking he was a dream. No human has the right to be this gorgeous!” “He was even more gorgeous than this…” I said with a dreamy smile. “Wow. My niece or nephew is sure going to be a looker with such a beautiful couple as their parents.” That snapped me out of my trance, and I looked at her dejectedly. Tia sighed and came to me before pulling me into a hug. She pulled back after a while, and I gave her a grateful smile.  “Nothing about this sounds normal, Savannah babe. A guy appearing in your room when the doors and windows were closed, and it is too much of a coincidence that it happened exactly the same day you brought the book with an image eerily similar to his appearance. Only one thing I know and it is that he was here and he was real.” She looked at me, and a strange look came over her face. “What?” “You are too naïve, Savannah. I wonder if he deliberately cheated you by making you believe it was a dream.” I narrowed my eyes at her, not liking it in the least bit that she was distrusting my man. I didn’t know where the anger came from, but I was pissed off. “He didn’t cheat me! He loves me!” I snarled, but then promptly I burst into tears. Wretched hormones! “He loves me… He really does. And he never told me that it was a dream. It was just what I thought. He had always told me that he was as real as me and he would take me to his world.” I sobbed. “His world?” I looked at her and realised that I hadn’t told her about that. “Yes. He told me that I was his mate and that he only had one hour in this world per day. He promised to bring me to his world where we could be together, but I never paid heed to his words.” “Mate?” “The book is a werewolf book, right? I thought that was why he called me that.” A gleam entered Tia’s eyes as she sat there with a thoughtful look. Then she looked at the book. “The Prince of the Lunar realm,” she read out loud before looking at me. “Have you read this?” she asked. “I had read some before falling asleep the first day, but never got to it after that. The purpose of reading it was to distract myself from the memory of seeing that asshole George with that slut. But when I had such a gorgeous guy to occupy my thoughts, I didn’t need the book,” I said sheepishly.  “What is in it?” she asked curiously.  “Well, it was not that exciting other than seeing the prince. It just described alternate universes and about a realm called Lunar realm. The hero is the prince, and it shows his adventures.” “Alternate universe?” Tia perked up. I was not liking the gleam in her eyes… “What if it is real? What if there are alternate Universes and he was really the Prince? Maybe he popped up in your room because you are his mate?” she asked, and I rolled my eyes.  Even I loved reading fantasy and werewolf books, but unlike me, Tia had always believed that they were real. She even thought that the pale man opposite the apartment who had sunlight allergy was a vampire. And the hairy dude we saw during our run was a secret werewolf.  “Well, it explains it, right? Coming inside your closed room, looking exactly like the hero of the book. And you even remember things being different from when you went to sleep, like your shoes getting removed. He must be the Prince like in the book. And then you would be a princess. How exciting!” I was about to rebuke her when I remembered that he always called me his princess. “What?” she asked. “He calls me his princess,” I said hesitantly, and a loud squeal filled the room, just about bursting my eardrums. “We need to read that book. Only it could give the answers to the questions.” “That is silly, Tia. It is just a book. Werewolves and alternate universes don’t exist,” I protested. “Right. But dream guys can make women pregnant,” she retorted, making me flush. I didn’t believe her absurd ideas, but a spark of doubt formed in my mind. What if? “Guess we should read the book,” I admitted grudgingly. I was about to plop back on the couch when Tia looked at me questioningly. “What?” “Well, I was wondering…” “Huh?” “As you oh so eloquently put it, I had been waddling like a duck for a few days after I had s*x the first time. And it hurt like a b***h. You didn’t feel anything?” I blushed at her question, but then thought back to the day I gave my virginity to him. Now that I knew it was real, I saw everything in a new light. I remembered what happened that day…
