CHAPTER 7: SEARCHING FOR HIM

1648 Words
Savannah’s POV I looked at Tia and sighed. “It was perfect, Tia. He had cared for me so much, making sure that I wouldn’t be in pain…” I smiled. “But now, knowing that he is real, I can’t make sense of how the pain vanished as if it never was. I mean, I had felt the pain, but then there was nothing. If I had felt the pain the next day, I would have known that it was not a dream, but waking up without an ounce of pain only cemented my belief that it was not real.” “I think it was him. He must have taken your pain away.” I looked at her as if she was crazy because she was. How could he take my pain away? Tia rolled her eyes at me, seeing my reaction.  “If he could appear inside a closed room, he could take away your pain too. We are talking about a prince from another realm here, after all.” I narrowed my eyes at her. “It is just you who thinks he is the Prince. I have enough sanity left in me to find a sensible reason for what happened. Rather than jumping to the conclusion that he is a Prince just because he looks like the hero of the book, why don’t we try to find him?” “What are you suggesting?” I took the book and showed the picture of my man to her.  “We have his picture and this is not the sixteenth century. We would just search the internet and we would get his details in minutes,” I said excitedly. I was having my Eureka moment, and I felt as if all my problems would end soon. Why didn’t I think of this before? Oh right, I thought it was all a dream… Tia rolled her eyes at me. “You can’t find a prince from another realm on the internet.” I glared at her, and she raised her hands in surrender. “Damn! Pregnant women are scary,” she muttered under her breath. I ignored her and took my mobile. After clicking a picture of my dream guy, I did a reverse image search and waited with bated breath. He must be a model, right? He would pop up in the search for sure… But when the search showed zero results, I frowned. What? I looked up to see Tia standing there with a knowing look. I turned back to the book and sighed. “Maybe he lives somewhere close by. He came here daily, right? Maybe if I showed his picture to people, someone or the other would recognize him, right?” “Savannah, he came inside your room when it was closed.” I ignored her before rushing out of my home frantically, and she ran behind me. “Damn, girl. Where are you running off to like the hounds of hell are chasing you?” She called out behind me, but in my desperation, I didn’t pay heed to her. I stopped a random passerby before practically shoving the book to his face. “Have you seen this man?” I asked, and he looked at me as if I had lost my marbles. I must be a sight in my worn out pajamas, fluffy slippers, and my messy hair all over the place. Not to mention the tear tracks on my face… “No. Sorry, lady. Gotta go,” he replied before walking away, and his pace was definitely faster than before. I scared the poor guy… “What are you doing, Savannah? Just come back with me…” Tia pleaded. “I can’t. I have to find him. I know something happened to him. He wouldn’t have stopped coming to me otherwise. I have to help him…” I cried.  Then I started running to everyone I spotted and showed his picture, but I didn’t see a single person who knew him. How could it be? I was tired, and my throat was parched. I didn’t even have the strength to walk back to my apartment and realised that we had reached a few blocks away.  It didn’t look as if just walking around waving his photo was going to work. And his picture was not even on the internet, despite it being on a book cover. Where was I going to find him? Wait! The book! Maybe I should go to the bookstore and see if the lady knows something about the book because I hadn’t found it in my search.  I looked around and sighed in relief when I saw that I was close to the place where I had brought the book from.  Seeing the determined look on my face, Tia sighed dejectedly.  “Now what new ideas have you gotten in that crazy head of yours?” “I am going to the bookstore I bought this book from. This book is not available in the search, and the lady who sold it to me said that there was only one copy of the book. I should ask her about it. I wonder why I didn’t think of it sooner. Better late than never, I guess.” Tia shook her head but didn’t respond to me. As I walked towards the bookstore, she followed me and we continued silently. Once I reached the bookstore, I stopped and looked at the place. This was the place that had changed my life forever, even if I didn’t know it then.  I felt a surge of excitement wash through me. I had the feeling that something was about to happen, and I hoped that it meant I was going to find the whereabouts of my man. With newfound energy, I ran towards the store and pushed the door open. I stood there panting heavily, trying to regain my breath.  “How may I help you?”  I perked up hearing the voice and looked up eagerly. But then I frowned in confusion when I saw that it was not the woman who had sold the book to me. Standing in front of me was a woman in her late sixties, but the one I saw that day was barely fifty. Maybe they had shifts? “Oh. Can I see the other lady?” I asked politely.  “Other lady? What do you mean, dear?” “Isn’t there another staff here? A middle-aged lady. Dark hair, blue eyes,” I supplied helpfully.  “I am sorry, dear. No one like that works here. It is just me…” I looked at her in disbelief.  “But I had met her. She had sold this book to me. About two months ago, I came here one night, and she was here…” “Are you sure this is the right place? Because it had only been me for years. And I close the store by six in the evening. The store is never open at night.” “But I remember here well. I am not mistaken. I even remember those books placed on the shelf right next to the one I bought. See,” I showed the book to her. She looked at it with a frown, and I waited with bated breath. Even if the other lady was not here, maybe this one would know the book? “I am sorry, dear. I have never seen this book in my life and I know each book in the place.” I stood there looking at her until Tia shook me. “Sorry for the confusion, Ma’am. We would be leaving now,” she said before dragging me with her.  I followed her, lost in my thoughts, and I didn’t even know when we reached home. I sat on the couch and sighed. What all was happening to me? First it turned out my dream man was never a dream but real and I was pregnant with his baby. And now, it is as if he doesn’t exist in this world, and even the woman who sold the book doesn’t seem to exist. “Now that you have tried your methods and found no result, shall we try mine?” Tia asked, making me snap out of my trance. “What?” I asked suspiciously. I wasn’t liking the glint in her eyes. She was definitely up to do something crazy. “I know a witch and I think she would be able to help us.” I stared at her for a moment before bursting out laughing. “A witch?” I asked through guffaws. “Don’t laugh. She is the real deal. I had felt the power when I met her and she had told what was going to happen to me in a few weeks. And guess what, it happened exactly like that.” Right… “It must have been a lucky guess. There are no witches, Tia.” “Well, what do you have to lose?” I opened my mouth to protest, but then paused. She was right. I had tried everything I could think of and nothing worked. Even if the idea seemed ludicrous, I literally had nothing to lose by trying it. And I was desperate enough to do things that I would have never done in a million years if I didn’t fear for the safety of my dream man. I guess we were going to meet a witch after all...
