Pizza

Amanda and Kyle sat in the cafeteria. They had grabbed a large pepperoni and cheese pizza to split. “So are you going to tell me what was up with the major attitude this morning?” She asked him, raising her brow. Kyle sighed. “Probably not,” he grinned through a bite. “I was just being d**k,” he laughed. “My broken ribs can attest to that,” she teased him. He put down his pizza. “I said I was sorry. I feel awful about that.” He told her and she could see the pain it caused him, his eyes full of sorrow. “I know, Kyle”, she told him gently, placing a hand on his arm. He looked down at her hand then looked back to her eyes. “I’m supposed to protect you,” he told her. “And I hurt you,”. “To be honest Kyle, that was just a training accident. And I would rather you go hard at me because we know that our enemies would too. I’m not a frail and broken child. I’m a strong, confident woman. I’m a wolf,” she whispered the last part. “I’m ok. But your silent treatment this morning broke my heart. Because I love you and you were so cold,” she sighed. “You love me?” He stammered. She looked into his eyes. “Of course. You’re a best friend. You’re more than a guard,” she told him gently. They went back to their pizza in silence. “What class do you have next?” He asked, changing the subject. “Counselling, mediation and negotiation,” she smiled. “I’m really looking forward to this one.” He nodded at her eagerness and smiled back. She heard her phone going off. “Have I been replaced already?” She rolled her eyes. Jake. “I’m sitting with a friend. You’re welcome to come join us,” she typed back. “I wish I could but the threat got away and we need to find out what he was looking for.” Jake wrote back. Amanda scrunched up her nose. She had a feeling that he meant Rocky, but wasn’t up to giving up her new friend. Remembering that Jake was in the business of security this would be right up his alley. It would make sense that he would be watching for threats. Rocky didn’t seem to be a threat. He was kind and respectful. “Well that’s your loss. Because this pizza is delicious”, she text back. “You’re delicious. I can’t stop staring at you. The way you threw your head back and moaned when I had you against the tree - that image is engraved in my mind” he wrote back. Amanda choked on her pizza. Coughing as she took a drink of water. The blush creeping up on her cheeks. “Everything ok Princess?” Kyle dropped his slice, preparing to come around the table. “Stand down big guy,” she grinned at Kyle. I will survive. “I’m sorry to make you choke but f**k your blushing cheeks is the most beautiful thing” “Ok smooth talker.” She grinned at the phone. “When can I see you again? Tonight?” Jake texted hopefully. Amanda sighed. He wasn’t going to like this. She sure didn’t. “Probably not until Monday,” she typed back. She heard a growl that shook the cafeteria, causing many students look around in alarm. Kyle sprang or his feet, his head whipping around. “Kyle!” Amanda exclaimed. She pointed to her phone. “It’s fine. It’s him,” she told him, she whispered. Kyle nodded and sat before giving her a raised eyebrow. She rolled her eyes and shrugged in response. “I’m going shopping with my sister and a few friends tonight for an event on Friday and need to assist with preparations,” she trailed off as her heart sank. “I can’t wait that long. Please,” she could feel his desperation. “Me neither”, she typed back. Putting her phone away, she turned to Kyle. “Wanna walk me to class?” She asked him, as they rose to leave. “Would love that,” he grinned, offering her his elbow. “My lady,” he joked. She laughed as she took his elbow with a slight bow to him. “I’ll lead the way”, she laughed. Amanda could feel her phone going off in her bag but ignored it. There was nothing she could do. She knew he wasn’t happy about it but she had set her class schedule for only 3 days a week intentionally. She had other duties and her father was nearing retirement. After her coronation she would be the queen of the north and the surrounding packs. It had taken her everything to convince her father to let her do the 1 year of university. They walked along until they got to her class. “Thank you for the impeccable front sore service,” she smiled at him, taking back her arm. “I will meet you out front after class?” Kyle asked her. Amanda nodded then reached out and hugged him. “I’m glad we made up,” she whispered. “Me too Princess” he grinned as he sauntered off. “He is cu-ute!” A voice from behind Amanda caused her to turn. A young woman with red hair was admiring Kyle. “He’s single!” Amanda offered up. “And he is sweet and kind, and protective - and did I mention single?” Amanda teased. The girl laughed. “I’m just glad he’s not your boyfriend because I could not contend with this level of hot!” She wildly gestured her hand over Amanda. “If you mean hot mess then you’re bang on,” Amanda grinned. “I’m Amanda,” she extended her hand. “Jennifer,” the girl smiled back, shaking Amanda’s hand. She had light brown, shoulder length hair and blue eyes under a side bang. She was taller than Amanda and had a thin build. The girls entered the classroom together, talking and giggling. They quickly took their seats as Professor Scott gave them a look and began. The entire class Amanda was on the edge of her seat, listening intently. Dr. Scott was a psychiatrist , specializing in working with individuals experiencing homelessness. He would be teaching the counseling portion of the class. They would then have a specialized police officer to teach the negotiation portion and finally a lawyer to do the mediation piece. Amanda was excited at all of the hands on, specialized personnel she would be learning from. The class was a full 3 hours in duration. It was heavy but the time flew by. “That was incredible!” Jennifer breathed out as the lawyer, Dean, finished. “My brain is overloaded!” Amanda grinned. “But so f*****g good!” She looked at the time. She had to leave now so that she could get to the mall in time to meet her sister. “It was super nice to meet you Jennifer!” She called as she packed up quickly. “Can’t wait to introduce you to Kyle!” She wiggled her eyebrows at Jennifer who laughed. Amanda hurried out to Kyle who was waiting in the SUV. “You look excited,” he smiled. “It’s been a perfect week,” Amanda smiled at him.
