CHAPTER 1: MY DEATH
Adira's Point of View
She poked my shoulder.
“What can you do?” she glared at me, acting all high and mighty. “You’re just some worthless omega who doesn't work in the palace like I do. If I tell you to move away, you should do it.”
The onlookers were shaking their heads, silently trying to tell the girl to back off.
I scoffed and dusted my shoulder.
“Touch me again and I’ll make you regret ever seeing me today.”
“You think you scare me?” she poked me again, and I grabbed her finger, putting it into my mouth and biting it as hard as I could.
She screamed in pain, trying to get me off. I smiled, feeling her blood dripping onto my tongue.
“Get off me, you dog!” she cried.
“What’s the commotion?” a masculine voice interrupted us. He stepped closer. I let go of the girl and couldn’t help but smile. He was breathtaking — his short, curly golden hair matched his amber eyes. He was simply heavenly.
Everyone bowed in respect. I just stood there, staring with a smile. I had only seen the Alpha’s son, Liam, from a distance before — sometimes while helping Granny serve dishes — but here I was, seeing him so closely for the first time.
He looked bewildered, staring at me. I suddenly felt so drawn to him that I couldn’t stop myself from moving closer. He didn’t move away, even when I closed the distance between us and touched his cheek, staring into his amber eyes that screamed of innocence.
“Mate,” my wolf purred.
I gasped. Liam is my mate?
His eyes softened. “Mate,” he said, his eyes flickering with that of his wolf.
This was it — the day I had been waiting for my entire life. A person I could call mine.
I smiled as a drop of tear rolled down my cheek — a tear of joy. My little crush had turned into a dream come true.
“After years of waiting, it was worth it,” I said.
It felt like my words snapped him out of a trance. He pushed me aggressively, and I hit the ground hard on my backside.
He looked at me in disgust. The innocence I saw was gone — replaced with anger.
“What the hell?!”
I raised a brow and stood up, dusting my clothing.
“Is this a joke? Why would a thing like you be my mate?” he looked angry. “The infamous orphan brat?”
“You’ve heard about me?” I asked.
He scoffed.
“I, Liam Ronald, reject you…” He paused. “What’s your name?”
“Wait, are you rejecting me?” I asked, confused. We were happy a second ago.
“What do you expect?! A kiss? Are you even something to be happy for? Look at you.”
He stared at me. I was in a dress, but it was messy — far worse than dressing in male clothing. I wasn’t wearing the palace uniform for servants, yet I looked worse than them. My hair was messy, and there was still a trace of that girl’s blood on my lips. I quickly wiped it off.
“You’re a disgrace. You’re a weak omega. You’re not even well-trained! Even a rogue looks better than you do!” he exclaimed bitterly.
“You’re a punishment — and if this is my fate, I’d rather skip it,” he said bluntly.
My heart shattered into pieces. I bit my lips, trying to hold back the tears.
“But…”
“What the hell is her name?!” he screamed in anger.
“Adira,” one of the servants answered.
He scoffed.
“Adira? That name’s too good for you. You’re weak and feisty, ill-mannered, and…” he looked at the servant girl I had bitten.
“How can you bite her…” He sighed.
“I, Liam Ronald, reject you, Adira, as my mate.”
The tears I was holding back finally flowed freely. A cold numbness spread through my chest. I couldn’t breathe. Everything I’d waited for — gone, like smoke in the wind.
I fell to my knees. “Please…” I swallowed hard, my voice breaking. “Please, I’ll change. I’ll dress how you want. I’ll do everything. You’re supposed to be my only family. I’ve waited years for you, so please… accept me. I will change everything for you,” I said.
I could hear gasps from the background. Everyone knew how feisty I was. This was my first time being vulnerable and feeling so weak. I wanted to stay as his mate. If I lost him, I might never have another. I would be lonely forever.
“Please…” I begged.
Liam chuckled.
“I’m not a fool. An untamed orphan like you will never be able to change. Accept my rejection.”
I bit my lips.
“Please…”
He jerked me up and faced me toward the crowd.
“How about I make this day memorable — by destroying your feisty character?”
He grabbed the top of my dress, tearing one of the sleeves. I held my dress in fear.
“What are you doing?” I struggled.
“Making sure you never walk through this pack with boldness again,” he said and continued stripping. It was hard trying to stop him — he was an Alpha, and I was just an Omega.
With his attention on getting rid of my dress, I kicked him in the groin.
He groaned and pushed me away. I fell to the ground, but he still didn’t give up.
“You b***h,” he growled, dragging me by the leg.
I picked up the wood a servant had dropped nearby. Fortunately, it was close.
As soon as he lifted me off the ground, I smashed his head with the wood. It shattered into several pieces. He staggered and fell, clutching his head.
My breath hitched. All the tears were gone, replaced with rage.
“I must be lucky for the Moon Goddess to make you reject me. You’re obviously a disgrace of a mate,” I spat.
“How can you call yourself a future Alpha when you try to bully an Omega!” I yelled. He looked at me, eyes filled with anger.
“I might be an orphan, but that doesn’t mean I’m weak enough to be trampled on!” I shouted.
“I, Adira, accept your rejection!”
A sharp pain pierced my chest as the bond broke. I staggered and groaned.
Liam also felt the pain. He stood up and staggered. The crowd screamed as blood from his head trailed down his face. Liam touched the blood, shocked.
I smirked.
“You can see why I’m named Adira. I might not be an Alpha, but I know how to beat one.”
“How. Dare. You!” Liam raged.
“Guards!”
A line of warriors surrounded me.
“You will be executed for hurting your future Alpha!” Liam roared.
I glared at him and stepped closer.
“Isn’t it a shame? You got beaten by an Omega, then used warriors to end her life.”
He scoffed.
“If you’re scared to die, I might let you live… if you become my slut.”
My eyes widened. I tried to back away, but he grabbed my arm.
“Become my s*x doll and I’ll spare your life.”
“You’re crazy,” I blurted out.
“If you lay your filthy hands on me, I’ll chop your d**k off,” I spat.
He let go and nodded.
“You made your decision. Warriors, take her to the executioner’s altar. I want the world to see her breathe her last!”
They dragged me to the executioner’s altar at the centre of the pack. Everyone followed. They looked happy — thrilled to see me die.
The executioner held his axe above my neck.
“Adira!” I heard Granny’s voice. She was running, tears pouring down her cheeks. She was the only one who took me in and loved me.
This was it. My final moment. I shut my eyes, waiting for death.
Then I heard a terrified scream from the audience. It wasn’t just one — it was thousands. I opened my eyes slowly. The entire crowd was in chaos. The executioner had dropped his axe.
He left me behind.
What is going on?
