CHAPTER SIX Los Angeles, Hotel Suite Emily’s POV The hallway was quiet except for the faint sound of music from downstairs. He didn’t look back, and I didn’t say a word. I just watched the way he walked, calm and sure, like he already knew I would come. Each step I took made my chest tighten. I could hear my heart beating louder than my heels on the floor. I should’ve stopped. I should’ve turned back. But something about him felt… safe. And that scared me more. When he pressed the elevator button, the soft ding echoed in the silence. He stepped in, and for a second, I froze. Then he looked at me, just a look, and my body moved before my brain could argue. The elevator doors closed. It was quiet. Too quiet. I could feel him standing close behind me, his presence heavy but not threatening. The air between us felt warm, alive, like it was holding its breath too. I didn’t know this man. Not his name. Not where he came from. Nothing. Yet, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d known him somewhere before, maybe in a dream, maybe in another life. When the doors opened, he walked out, and I followed. He stopped in front of a door, swiped a key card, and the lock clicked open. The room lights came on softly, washing the walls in a warm glow. I stepped inside, my pulse racing faster than I could calm it. He shut the door behind us. And suddenly, the world outside didn’t exist anymore. I turned to face him, unsure what to do or say. He didn’t move at first, just stood there, watching me. His eyes were dark, unreadable, but not cold. He took one small step forward. “You can leave,” he said quietly. “If you want.” The words were simple, but the way he said them made my stomach twist. It wasn’t a threat. It was an escape, one he knew I wouldn’t take. “I don’t want to,” I whispered before I could stop myself. A faint smile tugged at his lips, the kind that made your breath catch. He took another step closer until I could feel the heat of his body. His hand lifted slowly, brushing a strand of hair from my face. His touch was soft… careful… like he was been mindful of me. My chest rose and fell faster. I could smell his cologne, warm, clean, and something expensive. The kind of scent that lingered long after someone was gone. “You sure about this?” he asked, his voice low. I nodded, couldn’t speak, cus I didn’t trust my voice. He leaned in, his face just inches from mine. For a heartbeat, we just stood there, breathing the same air. And then, he kissed me. It wasn’t rushed. It was slow, searching, like he was trying to memorize the shape of my lips. My hands found his shirt, holding on because I didn’t know what else to do. The kiss deepened, still soft, still unsure, but filled with something I couldn’t explain. My mind screamed that this was crazy! I didn’t even know his name. But my body felt like it had been waiting for this moment forever. When he pulled back slightly, our foreheads touched. I closed my eyes. His breath brushed my skin, steady and warm. I didn’t know who he was. But for some reason, I trusted him. And that terrified me. He looked into my eyes like he was asking for one last answer, and I gave it with silence. He reached for me again, his touch gentle but certain. And this time, I didn’t hold back. He leaned down, his lips found mine again— And everything else disappeared.
