Episode 7: More shocks

Veronica's POV:
From the very moment my parents made known to me their intention to undergo surrogacy, every other word they said after that penetrated my ears like hot needles.
“We need healthy children,” my dad had said, referring to the fact that I was now perpetually unhealthy.
I wanted to get hurt and feel bad about their decision, but then I reminded myself: “Veronica, you are HIV positive. You will die anyway. What right do you think you have to feel sad? If you had behaved better, this wouldn't be happening.”
And so, I accepted the reality, even chastised myself for feeling sad about it. Why should I? I should instead support my parents.
So I responded, “Ok.”
My dad nodded and continued.
“Also, there is some good news for you.”
There was a pause, and then he continued.
“You have a suitor. Someone wants to marry you, Veronica. And that too as soon as possible.”
“Hold up one minute. How is this possible?” I asked myself, alarmed. Then I turned to my dad and said;
“Does he know? The suitor?”
“Yes. He knows that you are HIV positive. He is fully aware and still wants to marry you.”
I thought this wasn't possible. Marriage? Me? How?
Who wants to marry me, despite knowing my condition? Something didn't feel right.
I didn't know if I should be happy, relieved, or not. But I was very curious.
My dad continued.
“His name is Valentino Cooker; the youngest son of Richard Cooker. You know the Cooker Dynasty, right? They are multi-millionaires, way more richer than us. This is good for you and for us. Our alliance in marriage would give me room to ask for help from Richard to save my business that's been going through fire recently.”
“So, now that I have told you,” my dad said, standing up from his chair, like someone ready to end a meeting.
“It is settled. You will be getting married to Valentino Cooker in less than a month. So get ready.”
And truly, settled it was. I was getting married to Valentino Cooker, a man I don't know and without my consent being sought.
