1. Can't Fight Anymore
Unfortunately, Grace already felt betrayed by her husband.
Grace was deeply disappointed by what Luke had done to her. With a glare, cruel, and full of the flames of deep hatred imprinted on her face, she looked at him again—the man she had once fallen in love with, but now that love had vanished in such a short time. She melted away somewhere, leaving not the slightest remnant that she could feel in her heart.
With mixed feelings, Grace said it hoarsely. "I've tried to keep our relationship on the right track. I don't want us to crumble and lose, but now I've completely given up on you, Luke. I'm so tired."
Grace was sure that now that she had made the right decision, she could no longer be with Luke, she could no longer fight for her marriage with him. Enough was enough. She had completely given up.
"I realize I was wrong!" Luke replied, his tone of voice rising. He looked at his wife seriously. "But that doesn't mean I want our relationship to stop here. I don't want to part with you. No matter what."
No! That's not going to happen.
Grace shook her head heavily. Her heart was broken, and her feelings for Luke had disappeared. That's how she feels right now.
"You slept with her, Luke! That's the problem!" Grace unconsciously shouted out loud. The anger she had been trying to contain finally exploded fully. With her chest moving up and down, she stared at her husband, sharp and piercing.
Luke rubbed his face roughly. He couldn't believe that something like this was coming. He didn't want Grace out of his life. He loved his wife. But, when he caught the look of anger and fire in her eyes, he feared that something was really going to happen soon—something he was very afraid of.
"I already apologized to you. It wasn't intentional at all, I just love you. And you know that. That woman is a nobody," Luke said. His voice turned hoarse.
Grace's tasteless laughter burst out of her mouth. "I've given up on you. You let me down, you betrayed me!"
"Please, I don't want to fight with you. Let's fix this. We can, we need to fight together, honey."
"Don't call me that again!" Grace shouted loudly. "That's enough of this. I've had it with you. This isn't the first time you've done this. You've betrayed my trust over and over again, and I've been patient enough to forgive you. But this time, I really can't take it anymore. There's nothing to fight for anymore. I'm f*****g tired."
That's the reality of what happened. Luke's behavior toward Grace was no longer justifiable. It had gotten to the point where she could no longer tolerate her husband's actions. Luke was too arbitrary toward her. And worst of all, he assumes that his wife will always forgive all his actions, so he always makes the same mistakes.
And Grace no longer wanted to feel fooled by Luke. She should have done this a long time ago. He couldn't think that she would always be with him.
One or two times Luke made mistakes, Grace could forgive and still try to survive, but the longer he lived, the more he became. And this is the end, Grace can't stand him anymore. She was fed up and itching to get the hell out of this house.
"And what do you want to do now?" Luke asked with a hardened face. He could already guess what his wife was about to say, but it would be much clearer if Grace explained it directly.
Luke continued to stare at his wife's face, he loudly ignored the two large suitcases that were on the floor, right beside her. He held back the turmoil of uncertain feelings.
"I better get out of here."
"You can't just leave. We have a problem to solve!"
"You're my problem. The only way to fix it is to get as far away from you as possible. Being close to you only hurts my heart more."
"To put it bluntly, what do you want? Divorce? I don't want to do that. You're my wife and always will be. We can fix this."
"I told you that I can't! What's broken is hard to fix. And yes, you're absolutely right, I do want a divorce from you. It's much better than the torture of living with you," Grace said with her chest puffed out.
"You're just mad for a second, you can't do that. Your head is still hot. Come back, I love you."
This is what broke Grace's heart, Luke was quick to say such things, even though he had repeatedly made the same mistake over and over again. And every time he apologized with words of love, Grace would melt and foolishly forgive his lecherous behavior. And now, Grace is fully aware that Luke doesn't love her, he's lost interest in her, and strangely, he won't let her go.
"You don't love me, you love her more." Grace smiled wryly, then she dragged her two suitcases closer to her. "Goodbye, Luke."
Grace was about to turn around, but Luke quickly pulled her hand away.
"You can't just leave!" Luke yelled. "I'm not divorcing you. This is a nightmare, Grace. You love me. I love you. You—"
"Enough, Luke! I don't want to hear that f*****g bullshit from your lips anymore. You can only hurt me. How many times have you made me happy? You've given me more knives than flowers."
Grace jerked Luke's hand, who would soon become her ex-husband.
Luke was stunned and gaped wide as his wife was about to actually leave. She was very serious. He became frantic in no time. Letting Grace go was the same as Luke making a hole to bury himself. This can't be happening. Luke knew he was making a mistake—moreover, the same mistake for the umpteenth time—but he didn't want Grace to leave and abandon their six-year marriage.
When Grace reached the door, Luke moved quickly. He blocked his wife's path.
What Luke did clearly made Grace hate the man even more. She glared at Luke.
"Get out of my way!" Grace said it firmly. There was emphasis in the words she spoke.
"You can't leave here. Where are you going? You have no destination. Where would you sleep if you left?"
"That's none of your business, Luke. Better get out of the way before I get even angrier with you."
Luke stood still. He did not heed Grace's words. He just looked at his wife more deeply.
"We can't be like this, Grace. You know that I love you. I really apologize to you, and I promise not to repeat the same mistake as long as you—"
"For how many times will you use that phrase if you make the same mistake? You always say that, but what's the proof? You're never serious. You just spout nonsense to me." Grace then came forward, now standing directly opposite her husband. They were so close that they were almost touching. Grace looked up, staring into Luke's face with a firmness that she could no longer mask.
Pointing and pressing Luke's chest, Grace said again. "And you know what, I've had it with you. Now get away from me."
Again and again, Luke wouldn't do what Grace said. That made her unbearable. She quickly pushed him aside, and thankfully he didn't fight back, making it easy for Grace to step out while dragging a suitcase.
Grace wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. Her pace quickened even more.
"You think I'm the only one who made a mistake?"
But, Luke's words managed to stop Grace's steps abruptly. She paused, but didn't turn around.
Luke was happy that Grace was provoked by his words. The proof is that she stopped. He did not think long and immediately shot the words out of his mouth again. "You also secretly contacted your ex again. You guys went to the bar and drank together. You might have kept quiet if I didn't know about this from my friend! You would never have told me about that incident."
Grace smiled wryly. Luke's words managed to make her turn around. It was unethical of him to bring up the incident again, which had happened so long ago. And strangely enough, every time they fought, that remark was always used as a weapon by Luke against Grace. And now it sounded ridiculous.
"You're exaggerating too much. I met my ex by accident. We just chatted for a while. My actions are nothing compared to what you did for me."
"You also slept with him!"
That was another piece of nonsense Luke spewed at Grace. She could only laugh blandly. He was the guilty one, but he felt that he was the victim. It made no sense.
When in reality, it was Luke who had cheated on Grace several times. And tonight, his behavior was exposed again, for the umpteenth time.
"Thank you, Luke. Thank you for once again making me realize that I made the right decision. You're making it easier for me to do this."
Grace turned her body around again, then continued to leave with wide strides.
"Grace!" Luke yelled, but Grace didn't care about him anymore. She got further and further away, until she finally disappeared from his sight.
"f**k!" Luke cursed out loud. His hands clenched into tight fists, and his jaw tightened. Then, he entered the house again. The door slammed with such force that the hinges rattled.
