Chapter 3 Encounter

AMAZING! There was a huge bazaar with crowds of people and the most unique delicacies I had never seen nor eaten. I looked around and started to observe and examine the atmosphere. It was a medieval world. I saw there was nothing wrong with the place so I went off to eat the ailments. DELICIOUS! I thought. Something like this is on the streets when it should be served to the president of this region. SWOOSH! A strong wind came over me and I saw people running after a man. He swirled past me and I barely dodged. SO RUDE! I thought. Concluding that he was just stealing food I ignored him but out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glance at something he was holding and soon discovered he had nothing in his hands. I became suspicious and ran after him. I kept a distance from them so they would not notice me. The ‘man’ was gone and the men that were chasing him were angrily searching for him. INTERESTING! Was the first thing that came to my mind. After a while, they went back cursing him and saying they will find him again. I hid in the crowd and waited for the boy to come out. Later, after a few moments, he cautiously came out and breathed a sigh of relief. At that point, my eyes widened and I became dumbfounded. That person was a girl pretending to be a boy. I looked around, making sure there was no one in sight and ran up to her. She felt something behind her back and drew a dagger out of her belt. I became wary and cautiously stepped back. She then asked, “Who are you, and why were you following me”? These situations had happened to me many times as I was someone with a bad temper who picked a lot of fights. STREET FIGHTS. But, instead of jumping on her, I casually said, “Please put your dagger down, I just want to talk”. The girl scanned me head to toe like a surveillance camera. She exhaled deeply as she saw I had no weapons nor did I meant her any harm. “What are you waiting for? Come in then”. And I nodded. She took me into a restaurant and ordered. At first, we just sat in silence, her sipping tea elegantly without making a sound and me trying to start a conversation. I couldn’t restrain myself anymore “You are a girl, aren’t you?” I bluntly asked. She spat her tea on my face, but luckily, I dodged. But this time, instead of threatening me she sat next to me saying “How did you know”? I was about to laugh, but I forced myself to not. Something told me that this person was someone who liked adventures and didn’t ever experience mental pressure from others. “Well, for one thing”, I began, “Your skin is delicate, you do not have roughness like most swordsman do and I think this might be a hypothesis but, I think you’re royalty”. She looked at me, her mouth wide open “How – what – who are you?!” She said, banging the table in everyone’s attention to be towards us. I stood up, unaffected by what she said, but the money on the table (which I had gotten from that ugly light), grabbed her hand and got her out of the place. “Breathe”, I told her, “I will tell you everything, but you have to stay calm.” I wasn’t called smart for no reason. I made a whole backstory that I was supposedly from another country, was a highly admired detective. Some people felt threatened and wanted to get rid of me. The girl who was about in her late teens, around the same age as me, felt pity and told me everything about herself. She was a princess named Eleanor visiting from a neighbouring country with her brother. I listened attentively, then I felt guilty immediately apologised. I told her that there was something about she hadn’t told about herself. Something she will only tell after she trusts her completely. After all, she was a stranger. The girl told me that there was no need to worry and she completely understands how I feel. Oh my God did you had to do this to me? Trying to involve an innocent girl with me. I exhaled deeply and she looked at me with confusion. “What’s wrong with you? Do you not wish to go to the palace with me?” “No, it’s not that, your highness.” “Are you angry at me because I yelled at you?” “It is not that either, your highness.” “Then what is it?” “Well, it’s just that I am not used to talking formally, and I’m not used to the fact that…….” My voice trailed off and I couldn’t understand why. I was feeling very dizzy and faint. Did the princess had something to do with this? No, I don’t think so. The woman is fierce, but not someone who would break other’s trust in her. The female royalty became frightened and shook me violently. I was awake, but I was not. I could hear her, see her, but I could not touch her. I AM IN A DREAM? NAH IT COULDN’T BE. EVERYTHING IS PITCH BLACK. Something shook and I jumped back, unaware of the fact that I was standing in front of the leader of the council. “Cora, do you like the gift I gave you??” I jumped back at the sound only to realize it was useless. It wasn’t coming from a direction, it was coming from everywhere! “Yeah sure, but do you mind telling me the reason for all this? I mean sure it is a very bustling place filled with peace but why send me to this world?” I asked in confusion. Instead of talking, the sprite showed me various pictures. Images of robbery, murder and several other things that were better off untold. “It looks like that on the surface but as you can see it isn’t.” By the time the summary about how corrupt this world is, I was on my knees breathing heavily. “So, even that princess that was with me is here for some sort of a marriage alliance”. Silence was what I got for an answer, so I assumed that was a yes. I was on the verge of tears when I felt someone shaking me violently. I heard screams and sensed water droplets falling on my hands. I woke up seeing a crying Eleanor. I smiled and that turned into a laugh. The whole room looked at me with astonishment. When my stomach started to hurt and I had tears in my eyes my laughter came to a stop. “Don’t worry, I won’t die that easily. This is something normal and if this ever happens again you don’t need to worry”. I said, gently stroking her hair. Her cries came to a whimper. “Then you will stay with me in this castle right?” I pretended to be in deep thought and when she thought I would decline, I smirked and agreed without question. She was jumping up and down with enthusiasm and the attendants started giggling. I started getting embarrassed and told her to calm down. As she wasn’t aware of her atmosphere, Eleanor expressed her true emotions. It was fun, I guess. It had been such a long time since I had made a friend and held a conversation with someone for so long. By quickly understanding that others were looking, she sat down without saying anything else to worsen the situation. Then she looked up at me and asked several questions about her circumstances. At first, she thought I did not understand the situation but she had a surprised expression when I said yes. She asked me questions because of the whole staying thing, and if she is okay with and she is not forcing it on her. I calmly told her not to worry and that a new change would be good for me. After all, I knew her purpose for coming to this kingdom, about the arranged marriage and the upcoming wars. “But, but, HOW? I am pretty sure this is a state secret”, then she looked around and whispered in my ear “Are you a spy?” “More like an immortal” She gasped. “What are you doing here then?” I scoffed. SERIOUSLY, SHE BELIEVED ME? “Hello, I am talking to you”, she waved in front of me “Sorry Eleanor I did not hear you, what were you saying?” She sighed then repeated what she was saying again “I said, how did you obtain such powers” which caused my attention to be drawn towards her and I just looked at her in disbelief. “Wha – Wai – do you believe me?! She shrugged, then scoffed “Uh, why wouldn’t I? I mean after all these things are real.
