Death To The Witch
The town square was crowded to the brim even at the unholy hour of 11:35 PM. Why? The answer isn't far fetched as a huge cage containing a beautiful teenage girl who's clothes had been torn to rags was humped on the back of four strong armed men.
Angry shouts filled the air as the people followed behind. The huge cage was finally dropped at the centre of the town square. Some people threw stones and sticks at the poor girl who was scared to the bone.
"Burn her! Burn her! Death to the witch!" The people screamed angrily. The king soon approached and the whole place turned so quiet that you could even hear a pin drop.
"We are all gathered here today to decide the fate of Rachael Baker, the acclaimed witch. I am a man of integrity and just to be fair,I will give her a chance to defend herself before I pass judgement." The king declared and murmuring was heard amongst the crowd of people.
The king got up from the royal chair upon which he had been sitting and moved towards Rachael.
"Be careful my king, she is an evil witch and she may cast a spell on you." Randall, the King's advisor cautioned.
"Child, are you a witch?" The King asked. Rachael sniffed and and answered. "No,I'm not." "What makes you say that?" He asked further.
"Because I'm not. I have no evil powers or intentions to hurt anyone. I love animals and hate to see people sick. I healed sick children and animals, I've never done anyone harm. Is that a crime?" Rachael voiced out, her beautiful blue eyes red from continuous crying.
"But so many people have reported that you are a witch. You do things that are unexplainable and come out as strange. I've heard that you heal people and animals, yes, that's good but the problem is,you are not trained in medicine. You see no tools, medicine or herbs, one touch from you is enough to heal a dying person. Isn't that rather paranormal?" The king asked strongly.
"Your Majesty,it is a gift." Rachael stated. "From the devil." Came someone from the crowd. "Silence." The King warned.
"Since we're getting no where,I'll call on witnesses. If anyone can agree to your story, then I'll tamper justice with mercy." The King concluded.
"Then there's no need for this, just kill me already. No one will support me." Rachael spoke. "If you are telling the truth, then there must be at least one person to verify your claims of being innocent of witchcraft. Bring forward the witnesses." The King announced. There was truly no one to prove Rachael's innocence because she was an orphan who lived with a mean aunt and uncle who hated her and treated her like a maid.
"Your Majesty, I ask your permission to speak." Rachael's uncle came forward. "Permission granted." The King accepted.
"This evil child here is nothing but a vile witch." Her. uncle spat.
