The Unpredictable Heir

Chapter Five

The first question caught Luther off guard. He thought that they would ask him the whole thing that happened to his dad. But then, it's all the business that his dad has. They are eager to know who will handle everything that his dad left.

Luther cleared his throat. “No, it's not yet decided.”

“So probably, you have thought about it, right? Since you're his only son.”

“As I've said, it's not yet decided.”

The host asked others for the next question.

“Are you going to handle all your dad's business like him? He did it on his own, so probably like father, like son.” the woman with glasses asked him bluntly.

‘All they think is dad's business. Don't they want to ask about the feeling of losing a father? They're too fond of business.’ Luther said in his mind.

“I still don't know yet, but I'm doing the best that I can.”

They are all curious about Luther's dad's businesses and even who will be the one to handle it.

“Are you thinking of taking over your dad's seat after his wake?”

“Yes, but I still have to think about it thoroughly.”

“Why? Does it bother you, that you might not handle it the way your dad does?” This question made him stare blankly at the reporter who asked him.

“No, it doesn't bother me at all,” Luther confidently answered.

All the questions that are thrown to him are all about his dad's businesses.

Who will handle it?

Is he going to be the new CEO?

Can Luther handle all his dad's assets?

How can he manage it, if he decides to take over? And a lot of questions that turn out to be all about business, business, business……

But one question caught his attention.

“Is it really an accident? Or does someone already have a plan to kill him? From the CCTV review, it looks like it was unintentional.”

With that insensitive question, the press conference ended. But Luther was still thinking about it, like why would a reporter come up with that kind of question? Do they think that it was intentional?

‘Does anyone want to kill dad' Luther's mind is stuck on this question.

‘Why would he kill him? Did dad do things we didn't know?’

Because of that one question, it blew his mind off and that made him curious until a plan came up in his mind.

He is now heading back to the hall, when a call pops up. “Luther, your mom has been taken to the hospital, she lost consciousness while watering the flowers a while ago.” It was one of their trusted maids that called him.

Luther rushed to the hospital after the call. And this situation was like a déjà vu for him, the time his dad was taken to the hospital too. He worriedly stepped on the gas to get to the hospital quickly.

After a while, he asks the Doctor who monitored his mother's condition. His mom is having fatigue, which is an extreme sense of tiredness and lack of energy. She hadn't got a real rest starting the day his father died. She can't even eat enough on time.

The doctor reminds Luther of what his mother should do and avoid, and probably takes care of herself more often. Luther felt sad because his mother's health was affected and it really was alarming.

“Mom, how are you feeling?” he worriedly asks his mother, who looks pale and she has lost weight.

“I'm fine son, I just need to rest since I can't really take a good rest at the house, even in the hall. I miss your dad.” she whispered as her tears fell down her cheeks.

“Hush mom, everything will be fine after dad's wake, we'll learn to accept the fact even though it hurts.” he lovingly said to his mom and hugged her tight.

“So, please take care of your health mom, take care of yourself. I don't want to be alone in this world.”

His mom hugged him tight and sobbed on his shoulder. While Luther was in his mind, ‘I can’t lose you either.’

“David will be here with the food I requested to bring here. You should eat a lot today mom, okay?”

His mom nodded and smiled a little.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Luther thinks of how grateful she is to have a son like Luther. Luther is like his father and even his physical appearance, they look alike, same goes with his attitude. And she thanks God to have her son always by her side.

David enters the room where Luther's mother is confined. In his left hand, he is holding the food that Luther requested. David has been Luther's father's assistant for five years already and, even now, Mr. Leon Walt is gone, he still is and was always at Luther's side. He never complains about how he handles Luther when he trains him about his dad's businesses.

He hands Luther the food. He then entertains Luther's mom, since Luther is preparing the food for Mrs. Walt to eat.

While preparing, Luther heard his mom asking David, “How's the press conference? Did it go well?” she asked.

David simply looked at Luther to see if it was okay to answer his mom's question. Luther just nodded.

“It was smooth and went well. Even though they asked a lot of questions, Luther was still able to cater to them all.” David said with enthusiasm.

Mrs. Walt smiles at what she heard from David. Luther gives the food he prepared for his mother after their casual talk with David.

Luther's phone rings and the name of his father's secretary pops up on the screen. He went outside the room to answer the call.

“What is it, Ms. Taylor?”

“The papers that I gave to you the other time for you to check on weren't here at the table. Did you bring it with you?”

“No, I put it inside the drawer.”

“It wasn't there either.” the secretary confusingly said. Luther fell into deep thinking.

Who would sneak into his father's office?

Anyone can't enter the office unless with permission. It's impossible if someone has the guts to sneak and steal the papers.

“I think I know who stole it.” Luther said to Ms. Taylor. He has someone in mind, but he needs to make sure first.

“I'll find it out. Don't let anyone know about this.”

Luther heads back to the garden hall. He immediately looks where his uncle is and confronts him about the papers. But, then he heard his uncle talking to someone on the phone at the back of the hall.

“I did, I checked it already and you're right. But, one thing is for sure, I won't let him have everything, even Walt'ers Technology Walt'ers Technology Innovation Incorporation.”
