The flipping of papers are all you can hear in the four corners of the room. As you look around each of the tables, there are filled up documents that Luther with already scanned and studied. These documents are all about marketing strategies and data to be learned when business comes first.
Luther was there all day with his father's assistant to guide him and educate him thoroughly about everything that his father handles. Minutes later Luther's father, Mr. Leon Walt arrived and started to ask him everything that he had learned. It is like he is being questioned by his father to know if his son is capable of handling their businesses, which is why Mr. Walt trained him.
Since Luther Matt Walt was the only son of Mr. Leon Walt, he is being trained privately and not letting anyone know except him and his assistant. And the reason is only his father knows.
“Dad, I think today's training is enough. Can't I have a day off?” He pleaded to his dad even though he knew that he would not grant what he wanted.
“No.”
“Yes,” Luther seconded
“No,” his dad firmly said, and looked at him fiercely in the eyes.
“Oh common dad, just for tomorrow please.” he pleaded for the second time, thinking it would work this time.
“As I said, Luther, no. You can't have a day off, tomorrow or any other days. We both know that this training is important to you.”
“No dad, I don't think this training is important, and perhaps you're the CEO and you can still handle our businesses. And this training is just too early for my age.”
“Stop it Luther, this is important. Put that in your mind. You're my only son and the only heir of our family. We can't just sit back and do nothing.” His father stated, it's like he is giving him logic, but Luther still doesn't get his father's point. Instead, he just continued and didn't mind what his father said.
Hours passed and Luther was still in his training room feeling tired and sleepy. His father's assistant smacked him to wake his soul out and continue what he was reading. Luther groaned and stared at his trainer with piercing eyes. Luther looked around to call his father but ended up only seeing his trainer.
He looks at David Jones and asks him. “Where’s dad?”
“He already left a while ago. He didn't say goodbye to you, because he didn't want to disturb you.”
“Did he go with his driver?”
David nods and focuses on his iPad. While Luther smirks at him because of what he did. Minutes pass when Luther's phone rings, but it is with David, so he answers it instead to not disturb what Luther is doing. Luther didn't mind about the call and still continued flipping papers.
“Hello, this is David Jones.”. It wasn't the speaker, so Luther didn't hear what they were talking about. But in Luther's peripheral view. David's face was in shock and worried, but that didn't make him move.
When the call ended, Luther heard David sobbing. He then stops what he is doing and walks towards him.
“What happened? Who called?”
David continues whipping and can't even talk to Luther. David is a soft kind of person, he easily gets emotional when something happens to someone that is close to him, and you may not notice it because of his blank looking face, but that is his coping mechanism. He wiped his tears and calmed himself down. He looked at Luther worriedly and looked down.
“Why aren't you saying anything? “ I said, who called?” Luther felt anxious while looking at David.
“I-it’s the paramedics, y-your f-father-” David stutters and can't even continue what he is about to say.
“Look David, I'm not fond of jokes here, so better be clear to me and tell me what the call was all about.”
He cleared his throat and calmed himself again. “Luther, your father, he was taken to the hospital a-and.”
“And what? What happened to him? Tell me!”
“A-and he got badly injured, his life is at risk a-and his driver was d-dead on arrival.”
Luther let out a curse and snatched his phone, then hurriedly got his car keys. He didn't bother telling David and walked fast down the hallway and ran to the parking lot. His mind is full of all the data he's been reading, which causes him not to think clearly.
He slammed his car's steering wheel and cursed non-stop. After a while, he calmed himself down and started the engine. He taps the call button and calls his mom. After 3 rings, his mom answered his call.
“M-mom is dad okay? W-what happened? Where are you?” He heard his mom sob on the phone worrying him. His mom was silent for a moment.
“I’m outside the Emergency room.” His mom was still silent, and then he ended that call and drove fast to the hospital.
When he got to the hospital, he rushed through the hallway until he reached the emergency room. He saw his mom sitting in the cold steel chair. He called his mom. He saw his mom's swollen eyes and hugged her tight. His mom then cried on his shoulder.
“What happened mom? What happened to dad?” he asked, full of confusion in his eyes.
“They crashed into a truck, Luther, your dad got badly injured while Noel was dead on arrival.” Referring to his dad's driver.
“The police are now investigating the accident. They're now looking at all the CCTV that caught the incident. B-but the truck has no plate number and even the speed of the truck is not normal. It's like they are intentionally hitting your father's car. I-its like they've been eyeing him the whole time.”
“Who would actually do that to dad mom? Why would they do that to him? He did nothing wrong.” Luther stated in awe.
“I-i don't know.”
“T-they even ran through your dad's car leaving them injured and full of blood, t-they just ran away, Luther, they just ran away.” his mom stuttered and started to weep again.
Luther left dumbfounded and didn't know what to say. All the things they did with his father flashed into his mind. The training, the way his father scolds him because of asking for a day off. The laughter and all his jokes towards his father. It all came into his mind like a flashback and tears escaped from his eyes. He wipes it and hushes his mother to calm her down.
Meanwhile, the doctor came out of the emergency room. They both stood up immediately and asked the doctor of his father's condition. The doctor looks down and slowly gets off his mask and headcap.
“N-no.” Luther's mother whispered like she got what the doctor was about to say.
“No, no, no, no..” she uttered repeatedly.
Luther looks at the doctor and asks, “Doc, how's dad? Is he fine now? H-he survived, right? H-he did great, right? I-i know dad, he’s strong, he can make it.” he muttered, stuttering.
“I'm sorry, but we did everything."
