The first talk

[ Raven’s pov ] As our army had circled the Royal Silvermoon pack, the patrolling wolves stood guard on the borders awaiting for further orders. Two werewolves, who I realized later to be the beta and delta of the pack, instructed the remaining guards not to engage after grasping the full extent of their unfavorable position. We had the upper hand and they understood it, having no choice but to try and accommodate our requests, at least until their Alpha arrived. Victoria demanded his presence along with Lizzy’s, but the pack’s delta said that she had died. That liar! “- Didn’t you say that you had placed a protection spell on my daughter?” Victoria asked me, furious about that mutt’s claim. “- Yes, I did. No one from the pack would have been able to hurt her. I made sure of it”, I stated with absolute certainty. “- How did she die, wolf? ” Victoria demanded to know with complete disdain. “- Like you don’t know, you bloody murderers, and even if you don’t I am under no obligation to tell you” the delta spat in response. “- Don’t you dare to speak to her like that you lowlife!” I came to my best friend’s defense by lifting my hand in the air to squeeze the air out of his lungs. The levitated choking wolf was a joyful sight for my eyes. Serves him right for disrespecting the vampire Queen. “Now talk before I drop you dead!” “- Leave him alone. I will tell you what happened” the other wolf in charge replied. “Someone assassinated her when she returned to the human world for a work commitment. They killed both Lizzy and the royal guard accompanying her by driving a silver knife into their hearts. We thought it was one of yours, but I am starting to suspect that we were wrong”, the beta added. Finally, a smart one among them. “- You don’t say… what gave it away?” Victoria replied mockingly. “- That explains why they think she is dead and why I did not feel my spell break. I only protected her from the royal pack. My spell did not involve the human world. Not even in my darkest thoughts had I ever imagined that she would leave our world at such dangerous times. Despite that, the wooden dagger wouldn’t kill her. She is also a vampire after all” I whispered to Victoria. “- Why are you interested in our Luna’s death?” the beta asked. “- That is because she is not your Luna, Adam. That monster is Victoria’s daughter!” the man of the hour announced before I had the chance, and the vampire soldiers who heard his insult hissed in response. “- What?” Adam asked shocked, but received no answer. “- Careful there… watch your tongue, mutt!” I warned the Alpha King. “- Can anyone explain to me what the hell is going on?! Because I think I am having a nightmare”, the beta asked with a shocked face. However, his surprised expression turned into one of absolute horror after what seemed like a mindlink between him and the Alpha. I am certain he revealed to him his own twisted version of the truth. “- Daughter!” I heard Victoria crying out, distracting everyone all from the awkward situation unraveling before us. That is when I saw her. I saw my goddaughter again… However, she did not say a word to either of us, nor even acknowledge our presence. Elizabeth ignored her mother’s pleas and my intense stare… She seemed weak yet she presented herself graciously. Turns out it is exactly as they say: you can take the person out of the place, but you can’t take the place out of the person. Even after my attempts to suppress her natures, I wasn’t able to take the princess out of her and that showed in the way she presented herself. Hold on a minute, why the heck are there chain marks on her hands? “- What did you do to her?!” I yelled at the mutt in charge, demanding answers. If he hurt her, I will take his limbs apart one by one. “- Exactly what that spy of yours deserved!” the alpha snarled at me. What spy? What is he talking about?! Over the years, I tried to stay away from the war between vampires and werewolves, insisting on my minimal involvement. We witches chose to live in harmony and peace with nature and other creatures. However, our unmatching powers always made us a target for both vampires and werewolves, who mercilessly hunted us down over centuries out of fear. As a queen of witches, I had to stay impartial to provide a good example for every witch out there, but after what happened to Elisabeth, it was not so easy to stay neutral. Especially today… That boy King with his arrogance and condescending tone is really testing my patience. I was about to strangle him, but the terrified and hurt look on Lizzy’s face stopped me. I saw her love for that monster, and I saw her love for her friend, who I recognized after completing my research to be none other than her best friend Blake. That wolf was hugging her and cooing her after the king’s harsh words. To be sincere, I was astonished yet happily surprised by Blake’s reaction. She was the only one who stood by my goddaughter and protected her after the revelation of her identity. Turns out true friendship beats hate... who knew? I also saw her fear of Victoria and myself, and that reminded me to be cautious with my behavior. Even though her own mate betrayed her and treated her poorly, she was still on his side. I needed to remember that. Trying to calm myself down, I took this moment to observe my goddaughter. She was truly magnificent. It seems that the spell I put on her years ago, was completely broken and her true nature was finally revealed. Her bright red eyes with hints of gold around the pupil were undeniable proof of that. Her slim physique and graceful movements were enchanting, while her curls, as though glued to her shoulders, lay there neatly with every step. My goddaughter was what anyone would call a sight for sore eyes. “- What do you mean, a spy?” Victoria asked, confused by the alpha’s statement. “- Don’t act innocent, Victoria. I know you sent her here on a mission, to unravel our secrets. You probably persuaded that witch of yours to put me under a love spell in order to do so!” the werewolf king exclaimed, making Lizzy whimper. That bastard! Can’t he see how much his words are hurting her?! I will kill him the moment my goddaughter gives me the OK. “- I don’t know what you are talking about, mutt, nor do I care. All I want is my daughter. If you return her to me quietly, no harm will come to any of you and my army will leave you at peace. If not, well, let’s just say you are vastly outnumbered”, Victoria chuckled, making him growl. “- I won’t go with you. You are a monster. I heard stories about you, how you have murdered many innocent people. I saw it firsthand when she,” Lizzy said, pointing at me, “destroyed half of this kingdom, just on a whim. All of you are monsters and I’ll be damned if I go with you” Lizzy announced with determination, while Jacob scoffed, blinded by his hatred that prevented him from seeing the sincerity in her words. Is he really thinking this is all for theatrics? “- Liz, maybe you should let your mother say her piece. If you stay here, Jacob will probably put you back in that dungeon...” Blake whispered into my goddaughter’s ear and my best friend took this as an opportunity to state her case. “- Elisabeth, please. There are always two sides to a story. You have been brainwashed by that wolf. We are not monsters. We are just fighting to protect what we love. It is always wise to listen to both sides before drawing your conclusions”, Victoria said in a motherly tone, almost begging her daughter to listen. “- Even if that was true. You abandoned me when I was little. You did not want me, so what has changed now?!” Elisabeth shot back, not succumbing. “- You are right. I left you at that boarding school, but that was because I had no other choice! None of us did!” “- Oh really?!” Elisabeth mocked her mother’s claims. “- Yes”, Victoria stated with pain in her eyes “and that is all the Silvermoon’s fault!”
