Time for Change

657 Words
From a young age Tye knew he was somewhat different than other kids in his neighborhood. He never had a lot of contact with other kids because his mother home schooled him and his brother, Trent. He did occasionally get to see and play with some of the other home school kids in the area. They all belong to the same home school forum. Tye had been thankful for that growing up because it was really the only interaction with other kids he got since his brother was five years older than him and didn’t want anything to do with hanging out with him. Tye typically spent him morning doing work that his mother had assigned through the virtual learning site that they used. Then in the afternoon he piddled around the house unless he could find some of the kids from the home school group to hang out with. His mother let him hang out with them but not the neighborhood kids. He wasn’t sure why that was. He had asked once and his mother just said that it was because they were different than them, but not how they were different than them. Tye never understood how they were different. They looked the same to him. It wasn’t until his 15 birthday that his dad pulled him aside and explained why he was different, which came as somewhat of a shock.                 His father sat him down and told him that he knew that he had been wondering what was different about them. He then explained to Tye that they were shifters; werewolves to be more specific, and that Tye would be going through some changes started in the next year, as they usually start to shift around their 16th birthday. It all seemed somewhat unbelievable to Tye, but he couldn’t see his father lying to him. He supposed he would find out within the next year whether he wanted to or not. He was a little apprehensive about it and was a little scared, but he wasn’t going to admit that to anyone. Besides if his brother knew he would have a hay day making fun of him, especially since he had already been through it himself. Trent liked to give Tye a hard time about anything that he could. He liked to make things hard for him in any way he possibly could. He was a bully.  Tye decided to take it day by day and try not to focus on it too much. He figured there was no point in dwelling and stressing over things that he had no control over.                 Then one night it happened. He woke up in cold sweats and felt somewhat dizzy. Then the excruciating pain hit him. He tried to make it to his parent’s room but couldn’t get there. He crumpled to the floor in a heap. The pain got so bad he couldn’t stand it and he passed out, or he thought he did because he couldn’t remember what happened. But when he woke up, he was a wolf. He had actually turned into a friggin wolf!! He had fur, four legs, paws, and sharp ass teeth. His father had told him the truth. He still wasn’t quite sure what to make of it, but once he found his way out of the house, which wasn’t easy without opposable thumbs, he started to run. He felt so free and liberated. He suddenly had a whole new outlook on this wolf thing. He felt great, and he was so fast. He was faster than most people are normally and had better hearing and was stronger, but as a wolf those things were even more profound. He ran most of the night until he was completely exhausted. He laid down in the woods and fell asleep.
