When he woke up, he realized he was completely naked and didn’t have anything to put on. Panic set in because he knew he still needed to get back to his house and it was getting light outside. He didn’t think he had time to get all the way there before people started getting up and leaving their houses for work and other things. He was trying to figure out what to do when he heard a twig snap behind him. When he turned around, he saw his father carrying a backpack. His father smiled and said, “congratulations son, welcome to our world” and handed him the backpack full of clothes and shoes. He got dressed as quickly as he could, after all the idea of being naked in front of his dad made him feel weird, but he guested it would be something he may need to get used to since it was going to be part of his life now. They walked back to the house together, trying to keep to the woods as much as they could. His father explained that the first time shifting is the most painful, over time your body gets used to it and just knows what it is supposed to do, and it becomes less painful, and knowing what to expect helps too. Then his father reminisced about his first shift and how it made him feel. Then he told Tye he was glad to have him in the know now because it would make things tremendously easier and they would all be closer than ever now. Tye asked his father how he had known where he was. His father explained that it was easy to track family members because their sent is easily recognized, just as his mates would be some day. When the time came and he was lucky enough to imprint (it doesn’t happen for all wolves, you have to be lucky enough to cross paths with your mate for it to happen). His father explained that given the lineage and all it entailed typically meant staying away from normal people so they didn’t notice their differences, and that was why he had been homeschooled and only allowed to spend time with the kinds from the home school forum. Tye wasn’t exactly sure what his father was trying to tell him at first. Then it occurred to him that they had never told him he was different from the homeschool kids. His father affirmed his suspicions. The home school kids were all from families that belonged to the pack. So, they were all wolves as well. There was no difference between him and them.
When they got back to the house his mother had breakfast ready and told them all to sit and eat. Tye felt like he was starving, almost ravenous. His father laughed as he watched him and told him that was normal after a shift because it takes so much energy, not to mention all the running around he had done. Trent came into the kitchen for breakfast and started giving Tye a hard time right away as usual. Man, he is such a d**k! Tye didn’t know what his problem was. Why did he always have to give him crap? Couldn’t he go bother someone else for a while? Tye sure wished he would. To Tye’s surprise his father actually told Trent to lay off. Trent mumbled something under his breathe, and went into the other room. Tye continued to eat. He had 4 plates of food before he felt full. Then he went to his room and thought he would watch T.V., but he fell asleep instead. Even after sleeping for several hours he still felt tired when he got up. He ate dinner and went back to bed.
The next morning, he woke up and was surprised to see that it was 10 o’clock. He was never allowed to sleep that late on a school day. He wasn’t sure what was going on. He rushed to get dressed and went downstairs to find his mother. When he found her, she smiled and told him not to worry that she had intentionally let him sleep in because she thought he needed the rest. She had never told him anything even remotely close to that before. Maybe being a wolf had its perks. He wondered what else would come along with it. He was curious to see how things played out.
