Tye let his parents talk him into going to the next pack meeting because they said he needed to get some normalcy back in his life because it wasn’t healthy to continue the way he had been going. But his mother did throw in that she was thankful to see that he had been spending some time with his friends recently, but that he needed to get back to other routines and activities also. She said that going to pack meetings was a big part of belonging to a pack and it was good for him to actively take part in the pack. When they got to the pack meeting Tye had wished that he had drove his own car so that he could leave early. But he hadn’t besides his mother had been so happy at the idea of him riding with them and going to the pack meeting. He couldn’t upset her like that so he would suffer through it. They all got out of the car and went to the pack house and had dinner. Most of the pack meetings revolved around food. After dinner they went outside around a bon fire and talked and everyone seemed to be having a great time, except Tye. It wasn’t intentional. He just couldn’t help it. However, a while later some of his friends showed up and he hung out with them and that changed his spirits.
They were all playing basketball when Garret pulled up in his truck and Ansley was with him. Tye was wishing all over again that he hadn’t come or had driven himself, or maybe that he could find a rock to crawl under, so he didn’t have to witness her with Garret. It was way too painful. Tye half expected his friends to scatter when Garret arrived but they didn’t they stayed right by his side. Even when Garret came up to him and shoved him and said that “ there was no way in hell that he was gonna get in his way”, unlike last time Tye didn’t stumble, and he didn’t fall. He stood firm in his spot, almost like he was rooted. He had resigned to not let Garret push him around again and he wasn’t going to let him. When Garret shoved him the second time Tye still didn’t move but it did stir intense anger in him and everything came rushing back. As Garret started to walk away Tye yelled after him that he should be ashamed of him damn self for cheating on Ansley like he was and that he should do the right thing and tell her the ruth because he owed her that. Garret stammered about it not being true and how Tye was making it up to get to her. But it pissed him off enough to storm back over to Tye and take a swing. Tye easily dodged the punch and went to hit him back but before he could someone charged past him at Garret full force, knocking Garret off his feet and into the dirt. Tye was shocked to see that it was Tent on top of Garret beating him to a pulp. It didn’t last long and then it was broken up by some of the elders in the pack. But it lasted long enough for Garret to be bleeding from his nose and looked disheveled. But Trent looked mostly untouched. After it was broken up Garret left, and Ansley followed. His accusation hadn’t changed a thing. It was so frustrating. Why couldn’t she see through him and all of his bullshit!
Later that night after they had gotten back home Trent came to Tye’s room. He never did that. He even asked Tye if he was okay. Tye could barely believe what he was hearing, any more than he could believe that Trent had taken up for him early, especially against one of his friends. Tye could help but ask Trent why he had helped him? What made him take his side? Trent told him that there was no choice to be made. Tye was right and Garret was wrong. He went on to say that he wouldn’t stand with anyone that would do that to someone else knowing how special a bond between mates was. He was no friend of his anymore. In tradition before striding away he made sure to tell Tye that he still that he was an asshat, but he would continue to have his back because he believed he would have his in a reverse situation. And smiled a goofy grin and went to his room. Tye knew things had changed between them but he hadn’t realized how drastically they had changed. The thought made him smile even in spite of the situation.
