I lowered my eyes instantly. "Good evening Galen" I said closing the refrigerator and started walking toward the only exit out of the kitchen. Which was unfortunately the door frame he was leaning against. I stopped a few feet away and softly said "Excuse me" I was hoping he would move out of the door frame and make this an easy exit for me. But this was Galen, he never made things easy for me. "Use your words little Luna" I could hear the smile in his tone.
I took a deep breath and spoke again "May I please leave the kitchen?" I heard a low husky laugh come from him before he said "You have plenty of room little Luna." His body took up most of the space in the doorway, there was no way to walk past him without pressing myself against him, and he knew that. I stood there for another minute before turning around and heading back toward the fridge. If he was going to trap me in here I may as well make myself something to eat.
I opened the fridge and grabbed the sandwich meat I had been looking at before Galen walked in, I grabbed some lettuce, tomato and condiments before closing the door again. As I set everything on the island in the middle of the kitchen, I could still see him standing in the doorway out of the corner of my eye. I grabbed the bread and a knife and started making the sandwich.
I could feel his eyes on me as I pulled out the bread, I slowly took the knife and smeared on some spread before piling on the meat, tomatoes and lettuce. I turned around to grab a plate when he spoke from the doorway "You have quite the appetite Little Luna." I turned back around and placed the sandwich on the plate before pushing it to the other side of the island. "Actually this one is for you" I said softly taking out two more slices of bread.
I watched as he walked toward the island and sat on the stool in front of the plate. I quickly threw my own sandwich together hoping that while he was distracted I could escape the kitchen without an issue this time. I put all of the ingredients back into the fridge and grabbed 3 bottles of water before closing the door. I put one under my arm and pushed the other two across the island toward Galen. He hadn't touched his sandwich, and I could feel his eyes burning into me. "I made it just like you like it" I said grabbing my own plate and beginning to walk toward the door. Before I could walk past the Island I felt his hand grab my arm.
I stopped and looked down at his hand, "How do you know this?" his voice was softer then I had ever heard it. I smiled a little, "Two bottles of water and a turkey sandwich with mayo, honey mustard, lettuce and tomatoes. That's always your after training snack." I said softly. This was what I always saw him eating after training, "You usually eat outside in the field, I can see you from my window, and the smell always makes me hungry. Is that not what you were coming in here for?" I asked when his hand didn't release my arm. This was supposed to distract him not make him ask more questions.
He laughed softly and let go of my arm, "Thank you" was all he said then he just sat and stared down at his sandwich, I took this opportunity to make my way out of the room and up the stairs before I could run into anyone else. Once in my room I closed the door quickly and leaned against it, my body slid slowly down the door till I was sitting on the floor.
I don't know why I made him a sandwich, it just sort of happened. I did it without really thinking about what I was doing, but once it was done I figured it would be a good distraction to get me out of the kitchen. His reaction was not what I had anticipated. He seemed confused, and for the first time since I had met him, he didn't call me Little Luna.
My stomach begin to growl and I shook my head, I had to stop thinking about him and eat before my stomach ate itself. I stood up and walked over to the window. I always liked eating by the window, I loved looking out into the miles and miles of trees behind the main house. For some reason it made me feel like I wasn't alone. I got myself settled in and picked up my sandwich before looking out the window toward the forest.
My heart stopped and I almost dropped my sandwich, sitting in the same stop he always sat was Galen. But this time he wasn't facing the forest like usual, He was staring directly into my window, staring directly at me, I couldn't bring myself to look away from his gaze. It was different this time, I didn't know what this feeling was, but I felt like I wanted to cry. Not because I was sad or scared, but because for the first time in my life it felt like someone was actually looking at me, was actually seeing me.
It was too much, I finally broken the contact and looked down at my hands. I gabbed my sandwich and turned around so my back was to the window. I sat like that till I finished my sandwich, I set the plate down on the bench as I stood up I looked out toward the forest. He was still there, he was still sitting in the exact spot, staring directly into my window. I grabbed the curtains and quickly pulled them shut.
I would bring the plate down to the kitchen later, I didn't want to risk running into him again. Not when he was looking at me the way he was. If it had this kind of effect on me this far away I didn't want to know what being closer would do. I would just wait, waiting was better. Waiting was safer, I climbed into my bed and pulled the covers over my head. I needed to stop thinking about him, I needed to get his eyes out of my head. My stomach was in knots and it was making me feel sick, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. maybe if I took a nap it would help. I was just tired, that's all this was.
