After I left the office, I went to meet with my best friend Lily.
She was calling me for some days to meet her.
But I was very busy, so I decided to meet her today before the trip.
We will meet in a restaurant and have some dinner and talk.
She lives on the other side of the town.
As I have a car, I always went to meet her there as it is an inconvenience for her to come here.
Though I leave early, it is already 6 in the evening.
I enter the restaurant and see her sitting in our favorite place.
“Hey. Why are you so late? I was waiting for one hour.” Lily complains after seeing me.
“There was a lot of traffic today,” I say, shrugging my shoulder.
“OK, OK now sit. I want to talk to you a lot. Do you know we meet after an entire month?” she takes my hand and makes her seat.
“yes. I was so busy these days.” I huff.
“So how was your project?” She asks with a smile.
“Guess!” I say, smiling.
“Of course you get it.” She says and we both laugh.
She has too much confidence in me. Even more than me.
“Do you know you are my soulmate?” I ask, and she nods.
“I know I know. I can tell from your face what you are thinking.” She brags and I chuckle. We are friends from school time.
“Me too,” I say, and she raises her brow.
“Then tell me what I am thinking now.” She asks, propping her elbow on the table.
“You want to tell me something but don’t know how to start,” I say after thinking sometimes and she chuckles.
“Right and wrong.” She replies, and I became confused.
“How?” I ask. '
“I want to tell you something right. But I also want to ask you something, too.” Ok so my guess was right
“what?” Why does she need to hesitate before saying to me?
She knows I will agree with anything.
“Why didn’t you go to the blind date I fixed?” She asks and my mood gets sour. She knows then why she is asking?
“Lily not this.” I groan in frustration. I am done with this relationship topic.
“Why not this.” She asks angrily.
“Because I am in a good mood today and I don’t want to ruin this,” I say and she sighs.
“Nyla you can’t always ignore this. Aunt called me and ask me to tell you she chooses some blind date for you.” And when did she become so obedient?
“I told her I will not go,” I say and she lashes
“But why Nyla?” She asks angrily.
“You know the reason.” I don’t want to argue with her. But I can’t do what they want.
“For god’s sake, it’s 8 years Nyla 8 years. You need to move on.” She yells, and I know she is furious this time.
“I moved on 8 years back Lily.” I try to make her understand.
What happened in the past it should remain in the past.
I can’t change that, but I don’t want to do the same mistake again.
“Really. You moved on. Then why do you still cry for him?” she asks and I became silent. I know she knows, but I can’t let her win.
“I don’t cry for him.” I retort, and she laughs sarcastically.
“OK, then why do you always avoid everything related to him. You didn’t even attend your reunion party last year. You still think I will believe you?” She says, and I know I can’t lie anymore.
“Lily, I don’t want to talk about this.” I exhale.
“But I want. I want to know how long will you be stuck in this pain. You date nobody in these eight years. You don’t go on blind dates. If any boy tries to like you or talk to you lovingly, you make a wall between you. Why? Why? Nyla. You can’t live like this. You need to move on.” She tries to make me understand.
“Can you say how I will move on? How I will trust someone when my best friend has broken my trust. When the person I loved for three years come and tell me he never loved me. He always loved my best friend. And my best friend who always knew that I loved him just used me to go close to him.” I snapped
“Nyla.” Se became shocked by my outbreak.
“You can’t understand Lily. Nobody can. That day some part of me has broken. I can’t repair it how much I tried. I also wanted to forget something. Whenever some boy tries to approach me, I remember how John approached me to leave me broken. I can’t bear that pain again. I am afraid of that pain.” I say and tear roll down my eyes but I wipe them quickly.
“Nyla. It’s OK. I know, that jerk hurt you so much. But everybody was not the same. You can’t judge everyone like him.” She softened her tone.
“I know. But it can’t help much.” I try to smile at her.
“Look at me, Nyla. I am so happy with James. He loves me so much. You will also find someone who will love you more than you loved that jerk.” She says, and I know.
“I don’t want anyone in my life anymore. Can you please not bring this topic again? And also don’t arrange a blind date for me, please. Can you do that?” I plead.
“OK. But don’t let those memories haunt you. Please try to move on. Promise me.” Lily urges, and I nod.
“I will try I promise,” I say and she smiles.
“OK now, can we order some dinner? I am hungry.” She changes the topic.
“yes. I am also hungry.” I say and take the menu.
“What will you have? My treat,” she asks.
“Steak of course,” I say and she calls the waiter.
“OK, two large size steaks one medium and one well done.” She said to the waiter.
“What else mam,” he asks.
“A bottle of strawberry wine and for dessert two chocolate brownies with ice cream. That’s all.” We give our order and he left
“How our taste remains always the same all these years?” I say happily. “Because we are soulmates.” She replies and we both laugh.
“I don’t know what I would have done if you will not with me.” She has become my savior for all these years.
I don’t know what have I done if she wouldn’t be here.
“That’s impossible. We are meant to be a friend.” She says confidently.
“Yes, of course.” I agree. The waiter served us our food.
"So what is the other thing you want to tell me?" I ask while eating?
“Oh. I and James decided to get married.” She says, and I became surprised. “Really,” I say elated.
“Yes, and as you know John is his cousin, so he will come. Will you be OK?” she asks, not sure what will I say.
But her eager eyes are pleading with me.
I know I am the only person who desperately wants to attend her wedding.
“If you don’t want to see him, I will tell James to not invite him.” She tries to compromise, but I know that will be wrong.
He is James’s cousin and I know they are close.
I can’t do that for my selfish reason.
“No. You don’t need to. But I don’t know how will I handle...” But I will try for her.
“If you don’t want, I will tell him not to invite that jerk,” she says gritting her teeth.
“No, it’s OK. You know he married Chloe.” She asks and I nod.
“Good for them. At least they are together.” I say sadly.
But I know they deserve each other.
“OK. You are going to be my bridesmaid. Right?” she asks and I nod.
“Of course, I will. I want the best dress.” I say and she nods.
“Of course, best for my BFF,” she says with a chuckle and I laugh.
“When is the date?” I ask again.
“Two months. I need to do my shopping and help mine as well.” She says and I nod. “Obviously.” I need to sort my work accordingly.
“When will we start?” She asks and I think for some time. “I am going on a trip tomorrow,” I say as she didn’t know. “With whom?” She asked excitedly.
“You can call it an Office trip,” I say.
“Good. Maybe you find a wonderful boyfriend there.” She says, and I roll my eyes.
“Don’t say nonsense. I don’t know why all the surrounding people are jealous of my single status. Today in office Sid and Tina and here you. And of course my mom as well.” I tell her the list and she laughs out loud.
It’s not funny, at least I don’t think it is.
“Because all are mingled how can they watch you be happily single.” She says jokingly. “But I am not being mingled soon,” I say and she rolls her eyes this time.
“Can’t say. I will try my best to change your relationship status as soon as possible.” She was confident.
But I know any of her tricks will not work this time.
“If you don’t have a death wish,” I say with a smirk.
“Then I will die happy.” She says dramatically and we both laugh.
