Chapter 3

‘It hurts..’ ‘I feel cold..’ ‘I want to go back home..’ An unexpected pleasant breeze swept by, and I slowly opened my eyes to see a clear blue sky. ‘Did I die? Is this what they called the heaven?’ I slowly stand up only to feel nothing because the pain and injuries magically disappeared. ‘So..I really did die? There wasn’t even 24-hours I stayed in that world.’ I looked down and saw my barefoot while the grasses are dancing along the breeze. ‘This feels calming’ ‘I want to rest now’ “A-” ‘Huh? Did I hear something?’ “Alv- al-” ‘Who is that?’ As I follow the sound where its coming from, I squint my eyes and spotted a white cloaked figure from the distance carrying a lantern. “Evelyn!” Someone shouted my name causing me to get stunned and a bunch of memories from my real world flooded inside my mind, from when I was child until I became an adult woman. I looked at my hand and it seems it got thinner. ‘Wait..Am I??’ I’d like to use a mirror, but I’m in the middle of a meadow, and instead I noticed a large water puddle not far away. I dashed over to the puddle to check out my reflection in the water. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I recognized myself in the water, it is me.. the real me.. I have golden-hazel eyes, medium-length wavy brown hair, and a scar on the outside of my left brow. “It’s me..” I was about to touch my reflection in the water when someone interrupted me. “Child...” I turned around to see a white-cloaked figure carrying a lantern behind me. The figure approaches me and places a hand on my head. I didn’t flinch or do anything because it felt warm. “My child, you must go back.” Their voice is a cross between a female and a male voice. Therefore, I was unable to determine this person’s gender. “Go back? Where exactly?” They take their hand off my head, and they gracefully move their hand above the puddle, the water rises up beside us, looking like a hologram but composed of water. The strange person was displaying an image in the water. “But.. that’s where I don’t belong..” The image they displayed was from another world in which I was a man. “Return me to where I was before I came into that world.” I said firmly to the person in front of me. “I can’t.. because that’s where you don’t belong..” The more they talk, the more perplexed I become. I returned my gaze to the image beside me and observed my current state. It seems unlikely I’d survive that long. “Please my child, you need to go back before it’s too late” I chuckled dryly as I unconsciously glared at the person. “Me? Returning there? After being kidn*pped and then transported to another world? Are you thinking this is a sick joke?” I sat back down and folded my arms. “If I die there, I would probably return back to my real world, so don’t make me play your stupid game” I firmly said to the strange person as I lay down on my back and appreciated the pleasant the breeze. “If...if you die there...that means you will stay here forever...you will become an immortal.” They are attempting to persuade me to return to that place, but I refuse. I just want to go back home. “My child, don’t you want to start your new second life?” For some reason, the question upset me so much that I simply glared at the individual. I sat myself up and began yelling at them. “I WAS ALREADY ENJOYING MY LIFE! WHY AND WHO ARE YOU TO REMOVE IT FROM ME?! AND NOW YOU TELL ME I SHOULD LIVE MY SECOND LIFE?! AFTER YOU’VE JUST TAKEN MY FIRST LIFE?” I abruptly stand up and try to shove this strange person away, but my hands purely pass through their body. “My child, please calm down.. I’m not here to hurt you. I’m just here to guide you back where your true world is.” “As I previously said... That’s not my world..” I shifted my gaze to the ground, “I miss my family.” I experienced a warm sensation on my shoulder and realized they had placed their hand on it. “I was there, I became part of your family,” the strange person said, and I felt genuinely embraced. I had no idea I was embracing them back, yet this sensation is all too familiar. This feeling of hug, which held me securely before it vanished. Before I could say anything, the person who was embracing me vanished, and a bunch of dandelions flew into the wind. “I’m sorry my child but it’s too early for you to remember us” When I turned around, I saw the same individual. They were far away and walking further. “What do you mean?! Hey!!” The more they walk away, the more the darkness returns. “Hey!! Come back!” Everything went dark then I lost my consciousness. >>> ENTERING NATHAN’s POV.... I flopped down on the ground without feeling my legs for making me to get up. “Wait! He’s breathing!” ‘What?? That man?? He’s still alive???!’ All of the healers casted their healing magic again. I went closer and saw the man was breathing but still very rigged. “We must go to the church now!” The captain ordered everyone and help the injured man to safely move in the church. I immediately stand up and decided to also help but the captain blocked my way. “Young lad, maybe you should go inform your family that the man is still alive.” I nodded at him and decided to run towards back to the inn. >>> ENTERING CAPTAIN REIDENGAR’s POV “Sir Walgo” “Yes, captain?” “Put the area in inspection, also make sure to place the viscount’s banner in the area that will be easily seen.” The knight in command of the 9th order of the knights of the southern region proceeded down the street for a closer look. I went to the church to look after the injured man and then interrogate him when he wake up. I don’t detect any kind of power in that man, so how could he have withstood such a blow? Even if there were healers, he was still in critical condition. Furthermore, these healers lack the divine power to adequately heal a critically injured person. Hmm..it would be not good if this man was taking drugs that could enhance his body strength. I may have no choice to report it to the higher ups if that was the case. I carefully analyze the metal card that belongs to the man. Name: Alvrion Status: Commoner | Adventurer E | Merchant F Date of birth: September 19 443 Mark: Unknown I scanned at the mark carved on the metal card; the shape of the mark was peculiar to me. There was only one eye. What’s perplexing is that the mark is labeled ‘unknown’ on the card. ‘This..is..’ For hundreds of years, only animal symbols have been engraved on these metal cards, and the carved marks symbolize a human being. These beings act as the gods’ guardians. Previously, only nobles could have their marks, but after the cataclysm, commoners were bestowed with magical and divine powers. Unfortunately, not all of them were able to wield the borrowed god’s power, and their power limit remains lower than that of a noble. It was rare for a commoner to have same mana as a noble, or greater than them. The Reidengar family is represents the Serpentine Clan (Serpents), which is one of the guards of Lunern, the God of the Moon. It is also a clan that protects the Sun Goddess, Solernia. Lunern’s significant other. I heard a knock on the door and I just loudly said to come in. “Excuse me, Captain” “Ah, Sir Walgo, you’re back. How was the investigation?” “Captain, My apologies if I were about to bother you, but regarding about the case, we need your assistance” Hmm..this might not be a simple case. I probably should go and see it with my own eyes. I directed the other guards to continue guarding the injured man as we proceeded to the inspection area. We swiftly ride the horses to the location. “Captain! Sir Walgo!” Before we entered the inspection zone, one of the troops awaited us. I dismount my horse and begin to approach the area. “Report the investigation.” I calmly said while I walk pass the guard as he report the findings they had seen. The moment I stepped in the zone, there was puddle of blood everywhere, but not a single dead body was found. “Captain, we can’t proceed with the investigation beca-” I quickly rasied my hand in order to signal to quiet everyone down, I knelt one knee then placed my palm firmly on the ground, using my sensing magic to quickly scan the surroundings, and there were no findings of anyone lurking inside the buildings. They must had already fled earlier. I clicked my tongue, stood up, and hurriedly walked back to my horse. . “File the case as one of the Woflen Cult’s attacks, we can’t proceed today because the trail has gone too cold. The healers in the second circle of divine power, you must cast a purifying spell twice in this area and to the locations that are close by.” ‘I must quickly report this back to the higher ups, those bastards...they are on the move again..’ “Dark Magicians....” I infuriating muttered under my breath as I rapidly ride my horse towards the marquis mansion. >>> ENTERING THIRD PERSON’s POV Nathan arrived at the inn and slightly crouch down with both of his hand clutching his knees while panting heavily. The door opens and he saw his little sister. Natasha got surprised then started shouting for their mother and father. Nathan saw his father arrived first, then he ushers his son to sit down. Their mother gave Nathan a glass of water, but he set it down on the table first. “He...” Nathan try to form words from his mouth but he kept panting heavily from running so far. “He’s...hurt but.. he’s..still alive..” Their mother let out a relieved sigh. She gently pats his son’s back and hands him the glass of water. He took it and chugged the whole glass. He informed them that the man is presently recuperating at the church. His little sister suggested to quickly visit him today but their mother said they should go tomorrow and get some fruits to give to the man As Nathan peered out the window, he noticed that it was getting dark, he silently prayed in his thoughts. The night is long, so he hope the man recovers quickly. After Captain Reidengar waited for more than few minutes outside the mansion due to his unexpected visit, the butler opened the door leading inside the marquis office. He was about to kneel, but the marquis told him not to and report to him right away. He informed him everything about the case, including the fact that the dark magicians are back again. The marquis straighten his posture while his fingers fiddling his mustache, “When will the man fully recover?” He asked the captain but the captain look a bit worried for a moment. “I don’t know the exact date, my lord. However, the priests told us that he will regain consciousness this week.” He walked up to one of his shelves and pulled out a scroll. The scroll glowed with blue light and quickly vanished. He handed a scroll to the captain of the knights. “You are the only one I can trust, hurry and take this to the imperial palace, wear my badge when you almost arrive, and quickly meet the emperor. Remember, no matter what, do not lose this scroll even if someone will not get back alive.” The knight bowed before him and quickly left for the Knights Hall, informing the leaders of each order that he would be traveling incognito with the leaders of the 7th and 9th order. He also instructed them to keep a close eye on the individual who was recuperating in the church. “You went too far... you foolish count!” The marquis slammed his hand on his desk and sighed, slumping back in his chair. After a few minutes had passed, the butler went inside the office to inform the marquis, that there was another person looking for him. He raised his one eyebrow and told the butler to let him in the office. A slender old-looking man took a seat on the couch in front of the marquis desk. The marquis wryly smiled at the man. “How can I help you, Count Narvene?” The marquis straighten his posture and gaze intensely at the count sitting in front of him. “Oh, Marquis Ferlhein, I’m just here for a cup of tea with my best friend of mine” he said joyously while he plastered an annoying smile on his face. There was a whole minute of silence until he continues to speak. “Well, looks like the tea will take longer than I thought!” Count Narvene gets up from the couch, stretches his back, and walks towards the door. He turned around, dead-eyed, and said, “You should be careful about your position, marquis.” He opens the door and left the office. Marquis Ferlhein was annoyed, but he let it go because being mad at the count won’t address any problems. The marquis stood up and peered out the window, where he saw the count heading towards the gate. The count turned around and bowed modestly to the marquis before continuing on his way. The marquis muttered beneath his breath, “Foolishness....”
