Alvrion's eyes widened in surprise, not because the wolf had been able to speak all along, but because of the words that came out of its mouth.
"Ah, what I meant was....let us battle to death!" The wolf vanished in front of him, and Alvrion quickly turned around to avoid being attacked from behind by the wolf. But the wolf had been right in front of him the whole time.
The wolf has already returned to its regular size and will not use any offensive magic in the battle, but that does not mean he will show mercy; the wolf uses its paw to swing Alvrion towards a tree, forcing him to crash into the tree.
"W-what the hell! I almost died!!"
Alvrion quickly rolls over to the side to avoid the wolf's leap, causing the wolf's head to strike the tree. He quickly stands up and is about to open a magical scroll when the wolf claws at him again. The man is bracing himself against the impact with his sword, causing the wolf's strike to be blocked and parried. Alvrion jumped back out to a safety distance as the wolf gave out an amused remarked from his mouth.
A strange inscription appeared and it translates into 'Torrent Prison'
Two massive waves encircled the wolf, but the wolf formed a wind shield, allowing the waves to hit it and splashing around before disappearing.
"It's futile, lad."
"I haven't had the time to view the new magic scrolls!"
The wolf uses its tail to strike Alvrion, but he wasn't expecting the man to deflect his blow. The wolf is ready to attack again with its tail before the man can even land on his feet. Alvrion uses his blade to make a s***h on the tail, but the tail strike changes trajectory and hits the man behind his back. The man shivers from the pain, leading him to kneel on one knee on the ground and using his sword to support his weight, then he rises up and raises his sword in a defensive stance in front of him.
At that moment, a strange breeze with a path of blazes formed a pentagram beneath Alvrion, revitalizing his body but causing him to stagger to the ground and groan in the sudden pain.
"W-what are y-you doing?!!"
The man is doing everything he can to resist the pain he is feeling inside his body, but the pain has grown unbearable; he screams in agony as he tries to move, but his body appears to be pressing against the ground. He couldn't help but shuts his eyes and gasps sharply trying to relieve the burning sensation in his body.
The more time passed, the more wind and trail of blazes formed, causing nearby trees to sway in the gusts of wind. The man, on the other hand, got back on his feet, but he was still wobbling and his eyes were still closed, though he is now breathing normally.
The wolf couldn't help but grin proudly as he watched the guy breathe calmly and straighten his posture. When the pentagram and the gust of wind vanished, he opens his eyes and felt his body was lighter than before. He then collapses and lie down on the ground; he moves his gaze at the wolf beside him. "Damn, I thought I was going to die"
The wolf chuckles and sits in front of him, the wolf gazing at him with serious eyes. Then Alvrion sat up from the ground to hear what the wolf had to say.
"I gave you a small portion of my power as an experiment, and I'm honestly surprised you survived," the wolf joked, laughing enthusiastically at Alvrion, who was just staring sharply at him. The wolf then reassures him that he knows how much power to give him without harm.
"Then, is my mana greater now?" He asked excitedly as he waited for the wolf's response, and when he saw the wolf smile, he realized that with the wolf's power, he could finally become a close-range magician.
"No"
The man blinks numerous times, and the wolf still smiling. He couldn't believe what the wolf had said. The wolf stated that the fraction of its power he gave him was for his physical abilities, which Alvrion's physical ability is already above a normal human. Because, his body will disintegrate if the wolf given him mana. "Mana cannot be surpassed by training for thousands of years. In those thousands of years, you will only gain experience. Only beings with equal mana can grant extra mana to other beings."
He now understands what the wolf meant, but he puts his hand on his chin, seems to be in serious thought, looks down on the ground, and wonders about something, "By the way, what kind of abilities did you give?" He returns his gaze to the wolf in front of him, waiting for its response.
The wolf extends one paw to its side, creating a little ball of wind, and a thick book appears out of nowhere. The wolf then gave the man the book. "This book only contains information about magic and aura, and you can have it right now."
"Aura?"
"Hm, yes, it will take longer to explain that's why just read the book"
Alvrion examines the book, which is a thick book with a leather cover and an etched half circle; he is curious about what it means, but he dismisses the thought when he notices a thread tied around it to close the book. He opens the magic bag and simply hovers the book above the bag, and it vanishes.
"Don't show that book to anyone"
He nods to reassure the wolf that he will keep the book safe. He thanked the wolf before standing from the ground and adjusting his wrinkled and dusty clothes from the earlier battle. He noticed the wolf gazing up into the blue sky and watching the clouds drift away from the breeze. Alvrion observes the wolf silently gazing at the sky. There was a minute of silence, and only the rustling of tree leaves producing a sound.
"You can use the scroll you found in the drawers to return but... It's time for me to go...."
When the wolf's gaze shifts to the man, the wolf cannot help but laughs meekly. "Are you actually going?"Alvrion bitterly asked as he watched the wolf lower its head.
"Now then, pierce your sword here," the wolf says, pointing with his paw to its forehead. The man frowns at him while gripping the hilt of his sword, but he lets go. After all, this wolf had given him so many treasures, knowledge, and power. Even if it was only for a short time.
The wolf has already accepted its fate, knowing that Alvrion will be the one to end its life after generations of living alone in this place. "It's fine, lad. My master awaits me, I'll be glad if I'm beside her" The wolf closes its eyes and waits for him to end his final breath.
Before opening a magic scroll, Alvrion took one last glance at the wolf and took a deep breath before letting it out. The scroll levitates and disappears. The wolf noticed a change in the wind and opened its eyes to see tiny raindrops in their surroundings, similar to dandelions flowing into the wind but slower, and the breeze felt gentle and pleasant. The wolf shuts its eyes and smiles contentedly as it embraces the gentle warm rains that are slowly circling its body.
The man loosened his grasp on the sword's hilt and pulled out a dagger, approaching the wolf and placing his hand on the beast's forehead; the wolf made no reaction and simply waited for the blade to sink in. He looks away as he sinks the blade into the wolf's forehead, he hears a loud glass-like shatter noise. The wolf did not open its eyes and continued to smile.
Alvrion took a few steps back to give the wolf more space in front of him, and he noticed gentle white lights slowly engulfing its body. The wolf vanished as it said its final words, but Alvrion could not comprehend what he said because it had been cut off. He looks up at the sky, watching the clouds drift away. He took a deep breath, to keep his emotions in check. He remained in that position for a few minutes before noticing something on the ground, which he examined; it was the magic stone of the wolf and one of the fangs. The man takes it and decides to store it in his magic bag.
Suddenly, a yellow trail of light appeared beneath his feet; he followed the trail with his gaze and saw a hole with a yellow trail encircling it appear out of nowhere not far from him. He proceeds towards the dungeon's exit, he comes to a pause and takes one last look behind him. He knows that when he goes out of this dungeon, the whole place will disappear as the wolf mentioned it earlier.
"Well, here goes nothing," he mumbled before leaping into the hole in the ground. As he continued to fall, he closed his eyes. When everything came to a stop, he opened his eyes to see the pale orange sky, felt the cold hard concrete beneath his back, and he appears to be laying down. A pleasant breeze blows at him, reminding him of the wolf, and he softly smiles as he gazes at the sky.
>> While Alvrion was in the dungeon.....
Elran is heading back to the alley, whistling and holding both arms behind his head, when he was approached by a teenage boy with short hair that is slightly messy, with a short and thin braid draped over his left shoulder.
"Where is mister?" Nathan asked, taking glances alongside Elran but failed to see the certain orange-brown haired man as he awaited the redhead's response. The redhead simply chuckles and walks past Nathan.
He turned around and yelled at the redhead, causing Elran to stop walking and drop his arms back to his sides. "Well, let's just say he's not here," he replied shortly before continue walking.
The teenage boy was puzzled, so he follows the mage and attempts to bother him, but it didn't work. Elran came to a stop in front of the teenage boy, "You know kid, you should go back home now." he stated, looking down at him. "You're powerless," he added, delivering a stinging discomfort to the boy's chest before turning around. Nathan felt offended by what he had just heard, he clenched his fists and gritted his teeth as he watch the redhead mage walk away.
Elran had arrived in the alley and was waiting for Alvrion. 'What's taking him so long?' He wonders to himself as he rests against a wall. He then looks up at the sky, which was previously blue but is now almost pale orange.
>> Present time when Alvrion got out of the dungeon....
"That took you a long time, was the goblins hard for you? You should have used the magic chant to escape."
A familiar voice spoke near him, and he turned to see who it was. Alvrion rolls his eyes as he sees the certain redhead guy, then gets up from the cold ground, but pauses and looks at Elran.
"Wait, just goblins?"
"Yeah, that's an E-rank dungeon after all"
"Are you sure you sent me to the right dungeon?"
"Of course! Master Tarrcus is the one who warped it"
That's when Alvrion realized something was off about everything, like why the dungeon had that centipede monster and the wolf who gave him so much stuffs. No, the main point of the question is why, in the first place, does an E-rank dungeon have that intelligent beast? Shouldn't such kinds of beasts be in higher ranks? Alvrion remained in deep thought, and he couldn't hear Elran calling him. He then remembers something.
'Underworld....?'
His vision has become foggy, and his surroundings appear hazy. Elran is worriedly calling out his name as he notices Alvrion swaying and about to fall to the ground. 'This damn headache.....'
Elran is just in time to use his magic in a shape of cloud to catch Alvrion as he passes out. "Hey Alvrion!" he rushed over to the other man and discovered him unconscious. He instantly wrapped Alvrion's one arm around his neck and supported the man's side with his own hand. Elran hurriedly walks to another building, kicked the door open, and placed the man on the ground with his back resting against a wall. He then went outside to call for someone.
