Chapter 6

2510 Words
He takes a deep breath and stands still in front of the massive heavy door. He pushes the door open, making a loud 'creak' noise. He notices a mossy stone stair and cautiously makes his way up. "Huh?" The moment he reached the top, what he saw is a vast meadow; he quickly turned around and the cave was gone; he glances up and realized he had come from inside a massive cliff; he had unknowingly defeated his first dungeon. Or so he thought... As the breeze abruptly stopped flowing and the ground began to tremble, he felt something approaching at him full speed. He moves away from the cliff's base and starts sprinting away, his gaze frantically searching for the source of the presence. 'I may lack pure swordsmanship skills, but I'll definitely survive this place!' He spotted a massive blue lake and decided to run his way there; he came to a halt and took a deep breath before standing still with the lake behind him. He then grasped the hilt of the sword hanging from his waist belt as he squinted his eyes and saw a giant four-legged beast charging towards him. "A wolf...." A giant black-fur wolf is charging at him at full speed, with sharp teeth like a saber-tooth tiger, piercing red eyes, and a rattlesnake tail. He drew his sword and prepared to face the giant wolf. The wolf pounced on him right away, but before the beast could devour his head, Alvrion quickly moved to the side, causing the giant wolf to fall into the lake. A massive splash erupted, and the wolf wriggled its arms in an attempt to keep its head above water. He was about to open a magic scroll until. Human! Please save me!> "What the! I heard a voice speaking directly into my head!!" Alvrion was startled by the wolf's abrupt telepathic spell. Please save me! I promise I won't hurt you!> Alvrion simply stares at the wolf with a blank gaze. 'You know 'that's what someone will say if they want to injure someone....' he thought to himself as he stood there watching the wolf attempts not to drown by itself. Please! Human! I'll give you treasures and free you from this place!!> When he heard the term "treasure," Alvrion's ears perked up. He immediately thought of money. "Oh? I can kill you now and just find your treasure, so why should I save you?" he smiled as he watched the giant beast slowly submerge in the lake. I've got hidden treasures! That only I have access to!> He crossed his arms and had an idea, "Hmm, like a fingerprint scanner?" F-finger print?> "Ah, I mean paw scanner!" The giant wolf cannot hold it for much longer, so he sinks even deeper. He begs Alvrion to save him, but the man only looks at him amusingly. The giant wolf appears to be shrinking; his physical appearance is now the same height as a normal wolf. The man jumped into the water and quickly returned to land after grabbing the wolf. When the wolf is lying on the ground, it resembles a drenched seaweed. Thank you, Human! Now, I will do my best to dry us!> The wolf stands on its legs, and a warm wind swirls over their body, quickly drying everything. Alvrion is awestruck by the wind magic. The wolf appears to be seeking compliments from the man. But Alvrion only has a blank expression on his face when he sees the wolf, who appears to be sparkling from the sunlight. Now, as I promised I will take you to my hidden treasure den!> "Do you want to fight there? Isn't that cheating?" Alvrion asked suspiciously, as he tightened his bag around his torso, then he slid his sword inside his belt. Look, Human, I really hate water and you saved me! I might as well just die than to take a bath!> The wolf was sitting on its hind legs, with its back paw on his forehead, as if posturing like a dramatic woman. "Are you a cat?" Alvrion asked mockingly, appearing expressionless as he observed the wolf. Me?! The same as those greedy felines?!?> Alvrion felt annoyed by what was going on, so he raised another question instead. "Oh, okay, then how can you use your telepathy magic on me?" he waits for the wolf's response, as the wolf looks at him seriously. I don't know> The wolf said while having a dumb expression on its face. The man let out a groan sigh and facepalms. He continues to think how he will get out of this dungeon without fighting and killing the beast in front of him. But one thing for sure, ya really are different from them> "Who do you mean by 'them?'" Those adventurers who are called 'the visitors'> The wolf notices Alvrion's confuse expression as he struggles to understand what he is saying. Who sent you here, lad? Since a few centuries ago, there have been no outsiders in this dungeon> The man is taken aback by the question, 'How does this wolf know...?' He analyzes his own thoughts and decides not to answer since he is wary of this unknown intelligent beast in front of him. The wolf instantly notices that he is wary and debating whether or not to respond to its question. "Tarrcus, the elf mage.." The wolf became agitated as Alvrion muttered the name beneath his breath, he then growls exposing his bare fangs, the fur on its neck stands up as it growls harshly and curses. The wolf gradually calms down and lies down on its stomach. Alvrion wants to find out what's between them, but he can't because it appears like they have a bitter history, but he can't pass up this opportunity to ask additional questions about this world. The one who rule....> The atmosphere becomes serious, and he carefully listens to all the wolf has to say. The wolf, however, did not say anything else as it stood up from its resting position and stretched its back. Sorry, lad but...this is for your safety..> Alvrion shrugs, somewhat disappointed that he wasn't able to obtain further information. He was even more concerned after hearing what the wolf had stated. The wolf begins to walk and urges that Alvrion to follow him. He observes the wolf, but he doesn't sense any hostility from it like he did before. However, he continues to be wary of this strange beast. The wolf is currently the same height as a normal wolf, but Alvrion knows it is intelligent because it can form words like a human. It's fine to be cautious, lad. But right now, I will not cause you any harm> Alvrion decided to follow the wolf, but at a safe distance. As they walked farther into the forest, he was speechless by how large this dungeon is. The wolf has come to a halt, and they are ready to enter a cave. The wolf instructs Alvrion to make a torch by obtaining a sturdy branch, tearing his sleeves, and securely wrapping it at the end of the branch with the wolf's strand of magical fur by its tail, as the wolf uses its fire magic to light the torch. They walk in, and as they advanced, the cave began to take shape. The rough walls are being replaced with centuries old cracked bricks, the floor has become more level, and the ceiling has risen to the point where Alvrion can stand up without hitting his head on the ceiling. Here it is, feel free to browse anything you like> They enter a small room, which Alvrion illuminates the place using his torch. The room is crammed with piled books, magical scrolls, and potions that have been sitting for hundreds of years. The amount of dust that has accumulated in the room makes it feel stifling. "So, are these the hidden treasures you're talking about?" he asks the wolf as he advances towards a shelf, shining the torch and wiping the dust off the spines of the books to read the titles. He could hear the wolf scoff before it responded his question. Knowledge is a treasure> The wolf replied briefly as it walks towards what appears to be a wooden table covered in packed of dust. Alvrion follows the wolf and nearly trips over a broken chair. He shines his torch over the table and wipes away the dust, revealing some kind of sketch with what appears to be bordering lands. "Is this?..." Map of the Underworld> Alvrion was taken aback when he heard what the wolf said; he hadn't expected it. He assumed this was the global map, but after examining the drawing on the table, he realizes it was etched and that someone used ink to fill the engraving. I once had a master, but she is no longer with me...> The man saw the wolf had a melancholy expression on its face, as if it was reminiscing about its past. The wolf stopped reminiscing and walked towards a cabinet, calling over for Alvrion to open it. He found a small brown leather waist bag, black leather bracers, and a single magic scroll when he opened the cabinet. Take it, the owner of these items is now long gone> Alvrion is reluctant to take it, even though the wolf has already granted him permission to use it. When the wolf noticed he's hesitating, he smiled to himself, thinking, 'Ah, his aura is really different...' The waist bag appears small but it can carry a lot of weight; you even carry everything in this room, but you need use a separate bag for your personal items> He nods at the wolf before taking out the bracers and inspecting them. 'Oh, sweet! These bracers have hidden blade!' He beams excitedly, thinking this is ideal for him because he enjoys fighting with his fists. He also opened the other drawers in the cabinet and discovered additional magic scrolls and some shattered daggers with saw-toothed edges, one of which is in somewhat better condition. Ah, those bracers are imbued with magic that can't be seen by the naked eye> "How can I use the magic? I don't even have mana" What? What do you mean you don't have?> He paused on examining the bracers and slowly turns his head towards the wolf, immediately getting face to face with the beast. "I HAVE MANA?!" he shouted at the wolf's face; his expression filled with astonishment. The wolf looked bewildered and is now slowly grasping what's going on. 'This man....' What the.. are you a kid? Don't you even know the basics?> Alvrion nods enthusiastically insisting on the wolf educating him. The wolf sighs and decides to sit. Okay, listen up, lad. Your mana is very weak compared to a normal human. But...> The wolf looks at Alvrion's bag. It catches a peek of the magic scrolls and potions. You can use other being's magic scroll, because you have mana, and every living being has mana> The wolf noticed Alvrion's eagerness to find out more about his own mana. The wolf gave out a little snort, causing Alvrion's eager expression to waver before continuing. Even plants have mana but not enough for you to sense it. Don't tell me you thought you can use a magic scroll without mana?> The man with a sparkling expression nods aggressively for the second time. The wolf is simply astonished by the lack of knowledge this man possesses. He finds it remarkable that this man has made it this far. In short, your mana is the same as a plant> Alvrion saw all of his aspirations fade away as he realized his dream of becoming a powerful mage in another world was unattainable. The wolf pointed out that he could still use magic, but its power would not even be comparable to a child's first magic spell. The envisioned image of him launching magic lasers with his fists shattered to dust. That dam- I mean that elf probably took an interest with you because your mana is very similar to a plant> "Wait, how can you two sense it?" The wolf let out a loud short laugh before it stands up as it makes its way towards the exit of the room. We are simply powerful. Now, use the magic bag and put everything in it; just read it later when you get out> "Eh? Can I really take it all?" Of course, if no one takes them, those objects will rot for more centuries> Alvrion puts on the leather bracers and approaches the wolf, standing beside him, while carrying the magic scroll, the saw-toothed dagger, and the magic bag. The wolf instructs him to place the opened magic bag on the floor. Suddenly, a warm wind magic formed tiny tornadoes in the room, sweeping away the dusts, then the wolf chanted a magic spell in his thoughts and everything in that room glowed with white light before disappearing, leaving the room empty except for the table, broken chair, shelves, and cabinets. "Wow, can I also do that?" Before responding to the man's question, the wolf bursts out laughing and rolls on the floor. Pfft...what can a man with a plant's mana can do? HAHAHA> "Hey, you're going too far" He stares blankly at the wolf on the floor, who is imitating what he stated before. 'Wow, can I also do that?' with its eyes sparkling, the man watches the wolf clumsily stands up from the ground because of too much laughter. My bad, lad. It's been a long time since someone asked me a stupid question> "You're really going too far" They made their way out of the cave, and the fire in the torch magically extinguished. Alvrion drops the unlit torch into the cave before following the wolf to an open area with a hill of gold coins and some jewelry. "HOLY! MONEY!" he yelled out of amazement as he saw the mound of gold coins shining in the sunlight. You can also take it all> "REALLY?!" he quickly turned around and faced the wolf, his eyes looking like a currency sign. Yes, since it will disappear soon> The wolf makes his way towards the treasures. He then directs him to place the opened magic bag on the ground, he chants a specific incantation in his thoughts. The hill of treasures shined and vanished in an instant, leaving the landscape desolate. The wolf sits down and looks Alvrion in the eyes before opening its mouth to speak. "Kill me"
