After everyone had left, the house felt strangely quiet. The kind of quiet that makes you hear your own thoughts louder than anything else. Richard sat down on the couch and sighed deeply. I could tell the whole situation was weighing on him. “I’m sorry about all of this,” he said softly. “You don’t have to apologize,” I replied. “You stood up for me when no one else did.” For a moment we both sat there in silence.
