The Aftermath

Sam One kiss, that's all it took. Now my dreams have been about nothing, but kissing my mate. Every night I cover more of her in my kisses and wake up the next day even more frustrated. I've been hyper-aware of everything that she does, it's like she is a magnet. Even the little things that she does draw me towards her. She's so cute, it f*cking hurts. She tends to hum softly while she works. When she's in deep concentration, she puts her hair behind her right ear. She wears a lot of blues and it brings out her eyes. We've spent a lot of time together for the past two weeks. Figuring out the logistics of taking on an additional two hundred and fifty pack members. The Alpha position was offered to the living Omega Jack and his mate Kim, but they declined. I've now been made their Alpha and have started to learn an additional business. They also have their own celebrations & traditions. For example, they're planning a full moon party. I guess that was and is a big deal for their pack. They celebrate the coming of another full moon. It involves lots of food, alcohol, and some sort of Moonflower that they roast and eat or make into tea. I've never taken a drug for anything, but this is a part of their parties. It's a flower that can only grow from in Moonlight. As long as all of the pups are asleep, I don't have a problem with adults being adults. I'm doing my best to help mesh the two-pack cultures together. We've even started tearing down fences to combine the land. We've even started training some of our packs to help with their farm. They lost over a hundred people in the attack. We questioned the rogue, but got nothing major from him. Just a very vague, "Something is coming.". Right before he ended his own life. Not helpful and just one more stressor in the back of my mind. I glanced over at Jewel. She is humming again and reviewing the pack lands. We're thinking about adding more training facilities. The Sunlight pack can fight, but they're a newer, younger pack. We have more experience. I looked back to my computer screen smiling. "What are you smiling at?" asks Jewel. Shit! She caught me staring. I decide on the truth. "Honestly, you. You hum while you work and it's adorable.". I tell her while looking in her eyes. she blushes and looks back down at her work. Liam picks a not so perfect time to-mind link me. "Alpha, the Alpha from the North Mountain pack is here to see you". "Great, show him to my office," I say in reply. The North Mountain pack is run by an Alpha named Andrew. He reached out to me to come to stay here and train with me. His father died when he was twelve and he has been running the pack for sixteen years without any help. His Luna died a few years ago too. His pack attacks have been increasing and he wants to see how we keep our security so tight. We pretty rarely lose a wolf here. Our training is strict, but effective. The door opens. In walks Andrew, about my height with brown hair. He smiles and introduces himself. "Dave, this is my Beta Jewel, and my Omega Liam." I said, introducing them both. "Nice to meet you both. I had to leave my Beta and Omega behind while I came here," explains Dave. "Completely understandable. You brought the maps of your land, correct? That way can we give security pointers?" I asked. Getting right to the point. He isn't staring at Jewel, but he does keep glancing her way and I would like to get him out of here as soon as possible. "Yes, here they are," says Dave as he opens them up. We start going over their current security protocols, pack numbers, projected pack numbers, etc. They've lost a decent number of wolves. "I have an unpopular suggestion, but given the dire circumstances of your pack, you might want to think about recruiting some of your older teens to help with the patrol. It'll help train them and will lighten the load some on your warriors. You can keep them on a no-attack rule. So they would mind link the closest warrior, but not engage unless their life is threatened." I say after looking through the numbers. They have a decent number of older teens in their 17-19 range. Most packs won't add a wolf to patrol until they're twenty. Dave sighs. "I've been thinking about that too. Won't it hurt their school attendance?". "Not if you do the patrol early in the morning or later in the afternoon. That's what we do too. If anything, it's motivated some of them to work harder in school. So that they can do well in their warrior tests." says Jewel "Warrior tests?" asks Dave. "Yes, we've set it up to where the higher you score, the more benefits that you get to start out with. It's newer and seems to motivate them," replies Jewel. "You'll be here for a week, right?" I ask. "Yes, then I need to head back," replied Dave. "Okay, I will also be sending our pack trainer,, who is Liam here. He has agreed to stay on for a month or longer if needed to help train your pack." I said back. "Thank you so much! I appreciate it," says Dave. It takes everything in me not to say something about his glances at Jewel. It's probably harmless, but the wolf in me is not happy. We agreed to be friends, but that doesn't mean that I can just sit there and watch someone else pursue her. Mate withdrawal is a thing and luckily, that hasn't happened to me yet. Or to Jewel. The only reason that I can think of is that we both have already had mates. Normally, it's a sickness that comes from your wolf. He gives up on life and his body starts to give up. If we had rejected each other right away, it would have hurt, but it would have stopped a possible mate withdrawal. But Jewel hasn't mentioned any sort of rejection yet. As simple as that is, it gives me hope. If she was completely disgusted with me, then she would have rejected me right then and there. I feel her glancing my way too sometimes. I'm not assuming that she'll fall in love with me, but I'm hoping and praying to the Moon Goddess that she does.
