Blue Moon Flower

1343 Words
Jewel Is it wrong that I feel conflicted? I like Christine. I think that she would make a great Luna; she is great with pups and a born leader with her alpha blood. But then Sam keeps mentioning her becoming the rightful Alpha to the Sunlight Pack. I keep leaving them alone hoping that maybe he will get the hint. He seems completely oblivious of her presence. I know that the mate bond is strong, but can’t he see that I would be wrong for him? He needs someone whole and I haven’t felt that way since Jake died and I don’t know how to get it back. There are times that we make sense. Like when we’re patrolling together and our wolves seem so happy. Or when he comes into the children’s home and plays with the pups that are lacking in a father figure. He is unlike any other Alpha that I have met. Most Alphas wouldn’t make time to play tag with the pups, or to read them stories, but right now I’m cleaning up the remainder of their lunches and watching him do just that. He has a little girl with messy curls, curled up in his lap, as he reads her some story with a pink princess on the cover.  “You’re making me blush with all of your staring over there,” says Sam through the mind link and I almost drop the bowl that I was carrying I hear him laugh full-on and I hate how good it sounds. Stupid boy and his handsome face and his unnerving silent confidence. The lil pup looks at him confused as to why he was laughing, but then she just shrugs and cuddles back on his lap. “Uh, sorry. I was just thinking.” “Thinking about?” “Activities for tomorrow.” “Mmmm… I don't buy it.” I roll my eyes. I wasn’t planning on telling him what I was thinking, but then it just slipped out. “Fine, my wolf thinks that you look hott with that lil pup in your lap.” He laughs again. I’m just that I’m red as a tomato now. “...just your wolf or…?” “Will you just finish your pretty princess story please?” “You look adorable when you blush” “Liar, I look like a boiled tomato.” “Did you hear about the Sunlight pack’s full moon party?” He asks, changing the subject. Thank the Goddess. “Yes, something about a moonflower tea and a party under the moon, will you allow it? I mean, it’s a drug for werewolves. I’m used to that sort of thing being from California, but your pack doesn’t seem to even drink much.” “I was a little hesitant at first. But it is part of their pack culture and they have already lost so much. I mean, I don’t see the harm in a light-hearted party to celebrate another full moon.” “True.” Just then, Christine comes in carrying bolts of fabric to the storage room. “Good afternoon, Alpha and Beta,” she said with a bright smile. “Good afternoon,” We both said at once. “Can I borrow you for two minutes, Jewel?” asked Christine. I look at the pups, with a furrowed brow. “...go ahead. I can watch them for a bit,” said Sam with a smile. I head back to the storage room and I see that it has been turned into a storage room of sorts. There are patterns everywhere for kids' clothes and several sets are already finished. “Oh my Goddess, Christine...did you make these?” She shuffles her feet a bit before explaining. “..yes… I know that the pack can afford to clothe these kids, but it's something that I’m good at and kids tear clothes a lot and if I make these, then I have the exact fabric to patch them...I also made you something. It’s for the Full Moon party.” She then pulls out a sundress. It has spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline. The fabric is a deep blue color with a pretty pink and red floral pattern on it. It’s beautiful. “You didn’t have to…” I start to say when she interrupts me. “I know I know...I’m just so thankful for your friendship and your help in finding my place here. I hope that you’ll wear it. You’re such a beautiful woman, but I only ever see you in leggings and t-shirts, which you look great in, but if you can catch the Alpha’s eye in your athletic clothes, imagine what else you would catch in something like this” She says the last bit with a small wink. “The Alpha...he doesn't… we just work together” I stammer out. She gives me a hard eye roll and I realize that this is the first time that I’ve seen this side of her. “The Alpha hangs on every word that you say and is constantly sneaking glances at you when he thinks that none of us are looking.” “...we’re just friends…” “Yeah, friends...but you want to be more than friends right? Is it because you're his beta? Is that why you aren't making any moves. I heard through the grapevine that you both lost your mates. That means that you’re free to look for another mate. Second chance mates are super rare. ” “I...uh…” I stammer out. What would she think if I told her that Sam and I are second chance mates?  She motions for me to try on the dress and I grab it quickly and go change behind a screen. “I think that you and the Alpha would be good together,” I say quickly before I lose my nerve. I come from behind the screen and she has pins and starts pining near my waist. “...I mean he is attractive and all, but I still want to find my mate.” “But there is no guarantee that you’ll find your mate,” I say quickly. My wolf hates every word and threatens to shift if I continue. “Maybe, I don’t know. I think that he is in love with you.” Those words make me abruptly halt. In love with me? Sam? He’s practically perfect. I don’t see how he could love a mess like me. Even with the mate bond. He is like a ray of stable, confident sunshine. I think of him then with his bright blond hair and golden-brown eyes. He just has this effortlessness about him. He could have any she-wolf that he wants. Why on the Goddess’s green earth would he choose someone like me? I’m pretty I guess, but I don’t have the confidence or the grace that he seems to have in everything that he does. I practically trip on air and I talk way too damn much.  “Think that you’re mistaken. There is no way that he could love me.” “Suit yourself. We’re our worst critics though. His love will probably look different than your first mate. Love is also rarely rational. It’s not always this crazy passionate fire. Sometimes it's softer and quiet. Maybe you miss it because it's different than what you’re used to ” “You speak like you have experience.” “I wish...I just observe a lot and that is what I’ve gathered.” She motions for me to go back behind the screen again and I do to change into the t-shirt and leggings. I walk back out and hand her the dress. “Thank you for accepting my gift,'' she says.  "You're Welcome. It's beautiful, thank you for thinking of me." She smiles and I smile back before heading back to the main living area.   Author's Note Hello, readers, I'm back! I will be updating this at least once a week now on Saturday. -Joy
