Chapter 1, Eveline
“Princess Eveline,” a knight of the kingdom of Firadosa approached me, “Your father has definitely outstretched himself on this occasion of your birthday.” The fairy knight lowered his head, kissing the back of my hand. He was as chivalrous as the fairies were supposed to be. The black leaf crown etched on his forehead spoke of his status as one of the higher ranking knights in the Queen’s army. His green hair had been tied back into a low ponytail with his delicate wings lowered at his back, showing that he was at ease.     “Well, thank you, sire,” I curtsied, “May I ask for your name?” The knight’s metal armor clinked as he bowed his green haired head, “I am Sir Tirain Osbor, from the land of the fairies, Firadosa.” “I am glad that you and Her Highness and your people could make it here. I have heard of the tough times that your kingdom is facing. The rogue vampires had decided to go against the Dungeon lord to attack your kind,” I spoke with the dignity that was required for a princess. “Yes, my princess. These are tough times but we have the situation under control. My queen is quite apt at handling situations such as these,” Tirain spoke those robotic words that were required to be said during this talk. Whenever any such controversial topic came to be spoken of, it was always required of the higher officials to say that everything was under control. You always had to keep the honor of your kingdom’s king or queen. “A very happy birthday to you, Princess Perez and also, on this occasion, will you have a dance with me?” he bowed his head again, extending a fair hand towards me. With an immediate smile, I placed my hand in his, letting myself be led to the dancing floor. Through the corner of my eyes, I registered how Sebastian stared at me with searing heat in his eyes. I fixed him a smile, letting him know that this dance was harmless and that I was still his maiden. Wolf lovers were extremely possessive of their beloved. Knight Sebastian Orao was no different, when it came being possessive of his lover. As the dance came to an end, Tirain and I bowed and curtsied each other before I made my way towards the open balcony of the palace. The quarter moon shone in the sky as I finally breathed in the fresh air. The four kingdoms of the land of Ashtruvia had been invited by my father on occasion of my twenty second birthday, making the party to be a place crowded with too many higher officials. Ashtruvia had been place far off from the glittering cities of America. It was a place hidden in the middle of the high seas—an island that was as big as six cities of America combined together, protected by spells and wards that had kept it hidden from prying human eyes. The four kingdoms of Ashtruvia had been occupied by vampires, fairies and werewolves. Lamiair was the land of vampires, close to which laid the land of Varahar, another wolf kingdom apart from us. Then there was Firadosa, the land of fairies followed by our wolf kingdom of Herivelia. Lamiair and Firadosa remained the ever fighting kingdoms whereas our Herivelia and Varahar had to extend cold alliances to each other to keep the peace among the wolves. Two wolf clans could never be allies—King Ramore and my father King Perez had fought multiple battles to decide which kingdom was more powerful. Ultimately, the bloodshed had become so much that they had to form this treaty where no kingdom would interfere in the processes of the other. Till this date though, we still had not been able to extend a more courteous greeting than just slight nods of our heads to each other.   “Aren’t you supposed to be inside, waiting on the guests?” Sebastian came to stand beside me. His brown hair looked roughened up after having worn his visor for so long. “I have grown tired of having to fake smile at so many people,” truthfully, I replied. Sebastian had been the only one that I could speak so freely to. I knew he would never sell me out to someone. “You may never know, your mate might just be there in that party,” he looked towards me. The brightness of golden brown eyes seemed to have lessened at speaking about my mate. Both of my sisters had found their mates and they had been married off to them long before. They had settled down in cities outside of Ashtruvia. Even though there was a tight rule regarding who came into this sanctuary, there really wasn’t any rule of who went out. Everyone who lived had the right to settle in cities and countries beyond this island. “Seba,” I placed my hand on his armored one, clutching tightly, “I am twenty two years old as of now and I still haven’t found my mate. There really isn’t anyone for me, as I have learnt over the years. I wonder if you might find your mate in these parties.” He scoffed, slowly sliding away from me. It would be a scandal if the princess and soon to-be-heir of the kingdom of Herivelia was found to be philandering with a knight of her kingdom. No matter how high a position was held by Sebastian, it would still be a scandal until I was officially the queen. “I am of the same opinion, Eveline,” he slowly said, “I feel my mate is lost too. I might never find her and that is alright. I love you so much, Eveline and right now, I would want no one else but you.” Sighing, I looked away. Expressions of such private emotions always felt a little foreign to me. A princess was always supposed to guard her emotions, to never give any leverage to someone to use those emotions against her. “You haven’t given me my birthday gift,” I purposefully said, smiling secretively. “I am sorry, my princess,” he said quietly, “I will certainly come to your room later after this ball is over and give you your present.” “I will wait for that moment to arrive then, Knight,” replying, I watched through the corner of my eyes as he hesitated for a moment before sighing and leaving to attend to his duties as the Knight of this kingdom. Sebastian and I had been together for more than four years now and yet we both were yet to consummate this relationship, to take it to the next step. The frustration between our bodies had grown to heights that were unimaginable and it was only due to his control that I was even able to do this. I had the moment planned out—the moment I would be named Queen, I would let all that frustration and I would let him do whatever he pleases with my body. It was during this moment that I had felt it—the heedy and musky scent of something exotic, like the smell of nutmeg and pepper mixed to produce it. My wolf felt agitated inside me, growing restless. My consciousness was constantly being tossed between her and me. She was fighting me for the control of my body like we had fought during the younger days of my coming to age. The force of her power was becoming so uncontrollable that I had to clutch the banister of the balcony to keep my footing. “What are you doing, Luna? Why are you fighting me like this?” I spoke softly, clutching my head with my free hand. The distress seemed to only grow inside her until I felt it too—eyes that were staring me down. I could feel the heat of that stare burning through my body, bringing out such a s****l urge, as I have never felt before.   Slowly, I raised my eyes to look towards the stare. A man was standing several feet away, adorned in the clothes of a prince. His yellow wolf’s eyes glowed with fierceness in them, glowing with claim. Even before he said those words, I knew who he was. The growl left his mouth as the strength of his word reverberated through my entire body, “Mate!”
