Chapter Twenty-TwoMason was aware that he was laying in water and he could feel the touch of another Shade, but found he couldn't feel much beyond that as he came to. He had no idea where he was, only that he was safe. He couldn't remember the last time that felt true. He was injured, though he couldn't tell where or how bad it was. Vague memories of pain and desperation made him struggle to open his eyes. The light was too bright, and he closed them almost as fast, his hands lifting to grip the edges of the shallow bed. Hands dipped into the water, stirring it with energy. “Try again.” Mason blinked a few times before getting his eyes open.
