Chapter Twenty-NineChaos erupted around them as Alaric dropped the wards. Bryan and Sahara were on the heels of two of Rede's men who had gotten past them. Above them, the sky had started to darken. The television cameras were still recording, their operators long gone with the crowds. Mason moved among those who had fallen in the crush, healing as he could.
Maddie licked her lips, then licked at Zero's face. “She's okay for now.” Alaric said soothingly.
Their immediate need was obviously to get to shelter. He and Zero were covered in blood, the ground around them slick with it.
Rede lay dead, a few feet away, his cold eyes staring out of his b****y face. Maddie hadn't been content with the killing blow. She'd done everything she could to pull the man off of Zero, leaving him in shreds.
