And what you're looking for is suddenly out of reach.
The emotion, the emotion~
Just after her confession, Kate just acted as usual. She didn't shy away from Sam or anything, she treated her the way she did before she confessed; like a normal friend who doesn't have any romantic feelings towards Sam. She doesn't know if it's right but it wasn't something really serious, right? She got rejected anyway, no hard feelings she guesses. They can move on and pretend like nothing really happened.
But of what just happened, she isn't sure though if they're still friends. To her, Sam still is a friend, she doesn't know about the other.
"Kate, we're hangin' out at The Switch. G?" Chad asked.
Chad's her classmate. They became close when Kate decided to join the Table Tennis team at their school.
'Anything but Chad', that's what Kate thought of when she first heard his name, but what's wrong with it anyway? She doesn't know, she's just not vibing it but whatever, Chad's a nice guy and they clicked right away so maybe she can tolerate the name. 'I can make an exception', and with a shrug Kate moved on from it. Now they're best friends.
"Nah, I'll pass. Take care though!" Kate didn't look at her best friend and just continued on doing her science project.
"Aight. I'll go, just come in case you change your mind." and with it Chad and their other friends left.
Kate wasn't really in the mood. She isn't exactly sad, but she is not happy either. It got her thinking. Maybe it's just the fact that she got rejected. Is she embarassed though? Well, a little bit but she's more amazed by how she actually did something she never thought she couldn't do.
Back in Junior high school, she liked a girl from another class. They even became best friends, but it was short lived since the girl had to move to another place. She liked her so much, more than she likes Sam right now obviously but she didn't take any move and tries to see her chance because she's so afraid to lose the girl, and maybe afraid of other things too but she was just so scared she wouldn't do anything about it whatever it takes. She didn't want to think about it that much. It was a long time ago though, now that she's in Senior high, she's grown and learned more things than before. Heck she even confessed her feelings. Something she's sure she won't ever do before.
She just got rejected though.
But it was okay. If it was before, she doesn't know how she would handle the rejection, at least now she handled the situation good if not better. That's what she thinks.
Kate is almost done finishing her science project. It was a model of a cell with all the parts like the nucleus, the cell membrane, the cytoplasm which is between the aforementioned two, Golgi apparatus, the famous powerhouse of the cell mitochondria and other parts she worked so hard to put into a circle to make a 2D representation of their project.
She's mumbling incoherent words while trying to finally finish her project by moving fast, finding materials on her desk not minding if everything else other than her output is messy, when the door of their classroom opened.
"Oh it was--" the conversation was cut off when Kate looked at who just came in.
It's Sam who was just talking awhile ago and her best friend, Trey, the top 1 of their class. Sam maybe smart but Trey is a freaking genius. They're like the mitochondria, a powerhouse.
Kate looked at Sam and caught the latter looking at her too, though Sam immediately turn her gaze away.
"Hi Kate." Trey smiled at her and went to her desk right away, Sam following her.
"Yeah, hi." Kate was stealing glances at Sam who's so unusually quiet beside Trey who on the other hand continued talking after their conversation was cut off upon entering the classroom.
"And I told Keiff to back off! Do you remember what he just did to you?! And now he's trying to bullshit Isaac like--- Hey Sam, you good?" Kate looked at Sam when Trey asked the latter.
Sam looked a little surprised and just smiled weakly at Trey. "Yeah... yeah I'm good."
"Okay...? Were you listening?" Trey confusingly asked.
"Oh yeah, yeah. Isaac and I are okay anyway so whatever. I'll talk to Keiff, don't worry about him."
"Oh girl you'd be wasting your time on---"
Trey was cut off when Sam suddenly went to her desk and got all her things.
"Hey, Trey. You know what, I'll wait for you outside. I'll be with Ash and Trish in ABM room." Sam softly said while walking her way to the door. She didn't even let Trey talk before she was completely gone.
"O...kay? What?" Trey confusingly looked at the doorway and turned to look at Kate, who was there the whole time.
Kate just shrugged. She got up from her seat and started cleaning her mess since she just finished finalizing her project.
"Hi, Kate..." Trey softly said. Feeling awkward that it's just the two of them left in the classroom.
"Yeah, that's the second time now Trenaline. Hi."
Trey chuckled, shaking her head left and right in disbelief. Whether it's of what just happened, or of the fact that Kate just called her by her full name, Kate doesn't know.
"Trenaline? C'mon, don't call me that."
"It's your name though, how am I supposed to call you."
"Just Trey."
"Yeah? Okay, sure. I just thought your close friend can only call you that." Kate was almost done cleaning up. She went to the trash bin to throw all the stuff she used.
"Nah, they call me other nicknames. Trey is like for everyone, no one calls me by my full name. That's so awkward." Trey chuckled.
"Okay." Kate simply answered.
"Hey, can you throw this for me too?" Trey handed out some used plastics from under her desk to Kate while the latter just nodded.
"Thanks, Kate--- oh, should I call you that? What do you prefer?"
"Just whatever." Kate shrugs.
"Oh... okay. Aight, I'll go ahead. Are you done yet? Do you want to go with me?"
"Oh... uh sure. I don't know how to lock the door, so... I can't be the last one to leave." Kate puts her project on the shelf near the teacher's table. After getting her bag, she went to Trey who waited for her in the doorway.
"Thanks." Kate quickly said.
"Sure." Trey answered while locking the door.
Kate turned to leave when Trey was already done. She passed by the ABM room and quickly stole a glance of Sam talking to her friends inside.
She remembered about what Trey was talking about earlier. It was about a guy named Keiff and Isaac. Kate guesses that Isaac is Sam's boyfriend by the way she said it earlier.
"Oh yeah, yeah. Isaac and I are okay anyway so whatever. I'll talk to Keiff, don't worry about him."
'Isaac and I'.
By the time she was already at the boarding house she's staying, she immediately went to her room and fell straight to her bed.
'I'm so stupid. She's in a relationship!' Kate groaned loudly and faced the ceiling. She's thinking if she should talk to Sam tomorrow and apologize for what she did.
"ARGH!" Kate could only throw her pillow out of frustration.
"You're f*cking stupid, Katherine. So. F*cking. Stupid."
Kate stands up from lying down and throw her pillow back to her bed. She went to the mini kitchen inside her room and cooked something for her dinner. It's just 4 PM, classes were just done, her homeworks done, no projects, just... her not having any idea what to do.
She's aware that she knew almost nothing about Sam yet she carelessly confessed and now she's thinking she must have looked like a total i***t in front of Sam.
She bets Sam made fun of her with her friends after she confessed. Or if not, maybe she just scared the girl, and now she doesn't know what Sam feels. Was she weirded out by her?
Kate face palmed herself. She doesn't even know if Sam goes that way. Maybe she's not, she has a boyfriend. But maybe she's bisexual?
"Oh god. It doesn't matter! She's in a relationship! What were you thinking?!" Kate scolded herself and finished what she was cooking.
"I should just stay away from her. I'm embarrassing."
Kate shakes her head and went on to eat her dinner.
