Chapter 14

1231 Words
“How is she doing?” I know that voice, it’s Liam, but I cannot see him, the world around me is dark. “She is stable and the bleeding has stopped.” That voice is also male but I do not recognize it and what does he mean bleeding? I started to rack my brain, what was the last thing I remember? Liam and I were in the meadow having a picnic, it was beautiful outside, so calm and serene. Then why would there be blood? I tried to think harder. Oh yeah, rogue wolves had shown up and Liam told me to run to the pack house. I was almost there when I felt the worse pain in my life. Now I remember why there’s blood. “Why is it taking so long for her the heal?” Liam asked, I could hear the concerns in his voice. “Since your mate has yet to shift into her wolf, she does not have the ability to heal fast yet. Now, she will still heal faster than a human because she is a werewolf and even faster with you next to her, but we must be patient.” The man’s voice seems very knowledgeable about injuries, he must be a doctor. “Thank you.” I heard Liam say before I heard the sound of a door closing. I prayed it wasn’t Liam that left, but I can still smell him. Just then I feel the bed dip down to the side as Liam’s warm body wraps around me. I was willing my eyes to open so I could see his face. Don’t force it Cecily. You need to rest so I can heal you. I just need to see him, Isla. Just focus on the feeling of him being next to you. The sooner I can heal you, the sooner you’ll see Liam. I couldn’t argue with that. I need to rest and heal so I could see Liam. If Isla could heal me faster than normal, I need to let her do it. “Cecily, I’m so sorry.” It was Liam’s voice. I could feel him pulling me closer to him, being close to him is the best feeling. I could feel running his hand up and down my arm. “I should never have taken you away from the pack house. It’s my fault that the rogue attacked you.” The guilt in his voice would make anyone cry. He couldn’t have known that there would be rogues. I want to throw my arms around him and say it wasn’t his fault. I want to be present with him and not just hearing what he’s telling me. A knock again came to the door and I could feel Liam leave my bed. “Come in, dad.” Liam’s voice now just at the end of my bed. “I came to let you know the patrol’s finding. I figure it would be easy in person in case you have any questions.” His dad’s voice carried easily to my ears. After our long conversation about my parents being murdered, I can easily recognize his voice. “Yes, I agree. So, what did they find?” Liam asked his father. “The warriors that came to assist you with the rogues, had forced them back to our boundary lines. They trailed the lines but are not sure where they could have gotten through.” His father sounds so matter a fact. “The one thing that is clear, they were coming for Cecily.” Liam audibly growled out loud that I could feel the reverberation against my body. He was incredibly angered when his dad told him they were coming for me. “Why would rogues be coming for Cecily?” He asked his dad, while trying to keep calm. “I don’t know, but we’re not going to let anyone threaten your mate, and future Luna of this pack. We’re going to find out.” As much comfort as I found in Mr. Moran’s words, I also felt hopeless. I was prepared to defend myself today and I’m not going to let that happen again. Let me get you better and we will start training. We’ll be ready if they ever attack again. I like the way you think, Isla. The sound of the door clicking open had me paying attention again. I tried to focus on the sounds of the footsteps but I couldn’t tell if both of them were leaving the room or just his dad. “I have a few things I need to go check on. Stay with your mate. Help her heal.” The door shut and a single set of footsteps we’re making their way back toward my bed. I felt the weight of Liam climbing back into the bed with me, pressing his body right up against mine. His arms quickly wrapped around me, pulling me almost into a spooning position and, internally, I smiled. I tried to stay awake to just enjoy his scent and the feel of his chest rising and falling against my back, his warm breath caused goosebumps to form on the back of my neck. Soon the exhaustion of my injured body took over and brought the darkest of sleep. The darkness gave way to the bright sun pushing its way through the trees. The soft fragrance of native flora filled my nose as I walked around the forested area. It was quite beautiful. I look down to see my white paws thump upon the smooth grass. Wait. Paws? Paws! I can hear the sound of running water and run towards it. I use its glassy surface like a mirror. Twisting and turning to look around at my reflection. Oh my goodness. I’m a wolf. A solid white wolf at that. I look beautiful. Well, thank you! Isla, is that you? Of course it’s me. Her voice was calm and reassuring. I knew that this must be what Isla looks like in her true form. Looking at myself in her form, I felt strong, powerful. I knew if I could have been like this when those rogues went after me and Liam, I would have been able to fend them off. You will be able to change into this form once you start training. Really?! I’m ready to build upon this new life. The joy began pulsing through me. The urge to see what this form was capable of was encouraging me to run. I leapt over the creek and took off into a full sprint. Feeling the power of this body and the pounding as each paw contacted the ground was unlike any other feeling. I was ready for this to be more than just a dream. I could start to hear a voice filling the forest around me. “Cecily, Cecily.” I knew this voice, no doubt in my mind that it was Liam’s. I moved my head from one side to the other, looking around me to see if I could see him anywhere. He was no where around me. My head turned toward the sun and began to shine unusually bright. It slowly began to get brighter and brighter. “Cecily, sweetheart, come back to me.” My eyes blinked over and over to see hospital lights above me.
