Sarah's pov
Derek burst into the room, drenched with sweat, taking deep sharp breaths, panicky eyes raked across my room.
“S-sarah, what happened here? Are you oka-”
His words stuck in his throat like a thick lump of spit when he spotted Alpha Hills and I, my fingers still spread across his broad, warm chest.
“Y-you bastard! What are you doing with my fiance?!” He fumed as Sasha stepped from behind him, and her jaw fell to the floor with a gasp.
I choked back a sarcastic laugh.
“You have a lot of nerve to think you can still call me that,” I shot at him icily and his face paled.
Carefully rumpling the contract in my grasp I stood up facing Alpha Hills, he wore a satisfied smile and offered to hold my free hand, entangling his fingers with mine.
We walked past Derek who was as petrified as a statue, it was Sasha who dashed after us.
“Sarah, you can't leave like this!” She called out breathlessly when we were already halfway down the hall.
Her words seem to bolt Derek into animation again, he also stepped out of my bedroom.
“She's right, Sarah, come back and let's talk about this…”
Without looking at them, I spat out “What's there to talk about? Both of you stabbed me in the back!” I nearly choked as tears started rolling down my cheeks again.
“I trusted you guys…and you betrayed me,”
My feet were as wobbly as wet spaghetti, but just as I was about to curl up in sobs, Alpha Hills tightened his grip on my fingers.
It didn't hurt, it just filled me with reassurance.
“Chin up, Jones.” His voice was very firm but gentle.
“Don't let them see your weakness.”
I swallowed a general gulp of air and kept moving, taking one foot in front of the other as he pulled me along.
But Derek was not ready to quit it.
He ran towards us, his heavy footsteps pounding on the wooden floor, reaching us at the top of the stairs.
But before he could touch me Alpha Hills grabbed his hand mid air with a sadistic grin.
“Argh…” Derek growled in pain as he couldn't even muster the strength to release his hand.
Sasha rushed to his side- well keeping a safe distance- and screamed.
“Sarah, please tell him to let Derek go, he's hurting him!” she yelled demandingly.
I bit on my bottom lip.
He was hurting? She didn't look half as distraught knowing that they had hurt ME!
“Sarah!” She yelled at the top of her voice, staring at me desperately as the crunching sounds her lover's bones were making filled the air.
My chest tightened as I watched his facial features contort in pain. With a sigh, I placed a hand on Alpha Hill's shoulder and said;”That's enough, let's go.”
He sighed, disappointed, but readily peeled his hand off of Derek's wrist. The traitor staggered to the nearest wall and slumped to the floor still holding his wrist and moaning in pain.
Sasha crouched next to him, caressing him shamelessly as consolation.
I bit back my disgust and said to Alpha Hills again;”Let's go.”
The entire wedding party was in disarray, and those who saw me with the infamous Alpha Hills didn't dare to approach us to ask any questions, in moments we had slipped into his car and zoomed away from the madness.
I fiddled with my necklace, it was a family heirloom passed down from mother to daughter on their wedding day.
A day of happiness, revelry and joy metamorphosed into one of deep, heart wrenching despair.
“I can't believe they would do this to me,” I said, looking at Alpha Hills with the corner of my eye.
He gave a light shrug, “Do you still have the contract?” Alpha Hills asked in a flat tone.
“Yes,” I said wondering how he could be so aloof as I unfolded my hand to reveal the crumpled but still legible piece of paper.
“It's here,” I announced awkwardly.
He gave it a quick glance before snapping his attention right back to the road.
“Good, I'll review it with my lawyer and print out a more official, less crumpled document for both of us to sign again,”
He spoke with such simple formality, as though we were only discussing a basic business transaction.
“He's very quick and efficient, so everything goes smoothly for us.”
Slowly but steadily, the absurdity of it all began to sink into my mind as the rest of my turbulent emotions were temporarily tucked to the corner.
“You seem to be taking all of this really well,” I said, allowing the suspicion to drip off my voice.
“Shouldn't I?” He said, c*****g an eyebrow. “ Everything is working out for me today, I walked into a party without a plus one and left with a pretty woman by my side.”
The words leaped out of his lips so easily, like whisking away distressed brides was his pastime.
I stared down at the contract in my hand, as disheveled as it was, it was still embedded with my signature making it legally binding.
There was no running away.
“What are you looking at?” He enquired, leaning over curiously as we reached a red light, then I lifted my eyes and saw it.
The sinister smile of a predator that had caught its prey.
“So this is our room, I guess we can make it work till morning.” He said thirty minutes later as we entered an exclusive in a high end Hotel Creek .
“Alpha Hills, we need to talk.”
“Tomorrow, I'm beat right now…” He said, stretching his hand above his head.
I had finally had it with his careless attitude, I stomped in front of him and he paused.
“This really can't wait?” He groaned.
“It can't,” I said firmly. “Tell me the truth, Alpha Hills, why do you want to marry me?”
He stuffed a hand in his pocket.
“Well because I'm inlove with you, I believe I've mentioned this before…”
I grinded my teeth and produced the paper I signed earlier.
“Look, I just had the two people I trusted the most screw me over, so either you tell me the truth right now or I'm turning this contract to confetti!”
