chapter One
Sarah's pov
“Since your squirmy fiance backed out at the last minute, why don't we get married instead?”
Sprinkles of scarlet blood stained my wedding dress, my eyes were soaked with salty tears and my hair was a tangled mess with a hairpin swinging at the side of my face.
Yet, here, at my lowest; he was proposing to me?
My bewildered eyes searched him.
“Alpha Hills, are you insane?” The words slipped out subconsciously from my lips and he chuckled, with an amused grin and fished out the hair pin.
“No, I'm in love.”
“Love?” I scoffed, crumpling the certain fabric of my wedding gown in shaking fists.
“Love isn't real…it's a sick joke!”
It had to be, if the love I had tended to like a delicate flower for over a decade withered within a miserly hour and a half.
I looked down at my gown, it had been so clean and pristine earlier while I had foolishly twirled in front of a full body mirror, my silver hair pin had held my curtain of brown hair in a delicate looking but secure bun.
“If you keep spinning like that you might get dizzy!” Sasha, my maid of Honor, cautioned me.
I paused to look at her with a playful pout.
“Yes, mother…” I said half-jokingly, despite being friends since we were in diapers Sasha often acted like she was at least 20 years older than her age; carrying this mature air that could either be smurthering or wholesome at times.
She planted her hands on her hips.
“Sarah Jones, I'm being serious here…” she said, pointing to a cushion chair at the side.
“Now sit down, you look a bit pale so you'll need more blush!” She announced with all seriousness.
I smiled and followed her instructions, with precise movements she gently dabbed the blush across my cheeks lifting it up to give me a sharper look.
“This isn't just your wedding, you'll be representing the entire silver moon pack today an-”
We both paused as the door creaked open, and his familiar soothing scent seeped into my nostrils.
“Derek!” I called out with glee to my husband to be, jumping off the chair and rushing to him.
Before I could embrace him Sasha grabbed a generous amount of my dress at the hem and pulled me back.
“Sarah!” She wailed, then shot daggers at Derek.
“...and you! Don't you know it's bad luck to see the bride in her wedding gown now?”
Derek just scratched the back of his head with a groan.
“Ugh, hag, you are still as stiff as a board, I missed my Bride. Is that such a crime?”
I looked at Sasha with pleading eyes to release me. She did, but making sure she planted herself like a fence between me and Derek.
“Sarah, you can't continue to support his antics like this! This is why he keeps acting like a child at his age…”
She grabbed his hand.
“I'll get rid of him, just rest.”
I smiled looking at them bicker, my childhood friends…I knew that despite their bickering they cared deeply for each other.
But I never knew how deep.
My lips were still curved in an ignorant smile as my father, the alpha of the silver moon pack, walked me between the rows of esteemed guests; family, friends, and renowned members of the werewolf community.
They were already seated in the garden, and in just a couple of moments they would watch me get horribly humiliated.
But up to that moment, I held my head high until I was standing while facing my fiance.
He looked on edge, I naively chalked it up to him being excited to say yes to our wedding vows.
While I waited for him to say it, I closed my eyes and pictured our future together.
The lovely house we would stay in, and the lovelier pups we would raise togethe-
“No,” He said coldly.
Just like that.
“I can't marry you…I don't love you, Sarah.” His words hit me like a slap in the face.
“Then who do you love?” I asked with a derisive smile.
He lifted his eyes past my shoulder and it landed on…
Sasha.
Of all people, Sasha?!
“This is a joke right? Sasha, please tell me that this is nothing more than a poorly planned prank!” I demanded, and my voice cracking.
Her face tightened.
“Sarah, please calm down…”
“Tell me it's a joke, Sasha!” I fumed a growl slipping into my voice.
Suddenly, Derek walked past me, almost shoving me to the ground. He wrapped his hand around Sasha's waist, ripped her gown from the neckline down to her shoulder and there it was; irrevocable evidence of their betrayal.
His mark on her neck.
“She's my mate, Sarah…” he announced shamelessly, “... By tradition she is the only one that can be my Luna.”
“By tradition!” I screamed, sinking my fingers in my hair and coming to the present, I had run into my room leaving the garden and all my guests.
Once I was in my room nothing was spared from my rampage, and that was when Lucas Hills came in.
How could this man want me?
He was powerful, handsome and the Alpha of the feared Phoenix clan.
There was no reason why he should want me…a disgraced and rejected brid-
“Sarah!” Derek's voice calling out my name sent a shot of fury through my body.
How dare he?!
“Oh no, Sarah please we want to talk to you.”
It was Sasha.
They had no shame.
I looked down at the contract again, it was a piece of paper with some sketchy details Alpha Hills had written up.
There was no time to read between the lines.
I couldn't care any less.
“Do you promise on your title as Alpha to help me get my revenge?”
He held my wrist and pulled my fingers to his chest.
“On my life, you'll have it.”
I bit my lip and signed the contract just as the door burst open.
