Chapter 1
December 5th, 19xx The brunette hurried down the grassy pathway. His breathing had not had a chance for a break stumbled behind as his legs began to give up. All it took was one "glance" away and it was gone. Regardless his feelings. Without even thinking. Questions would form and no matter the boy wanted to ask, there wasn"t going to be an answer. No hesitation, nothing. Nothing at all. It was intense going through every crumbling step of the way. Felt as if time wasn"t on his side as it zoomed by. Those little steps he took is going to be something less memorable. And again, it was something small he couldn"t help. Tears began to well up, blurring his sight while he stopped to wipe his eyes. Crying there isn"t able to make the situation any better and above all, he didn"t like being selfishly weak. With his eyes all dried up, all there was left were pink blotches around his cheeks. Along with the disgusting sound as he tried to sniff. He"d remember what his father would say when he used to cry. How he said the boy looked ugly with his sobbing face. And how he wanted to see the boy"s smiling face than tears and snot. Since then he forced himself to stop whenever he felt if he were to after a few reminders. Father stopped reminding, but the boy still did as told. Wiping his nose, he sat down near the gate. He looked like every lost little boy with clothing dirtied by tripping. His shoes caught on much of the dirt eventually lost its shine. And his black hair, messed after crossing through tall green bushes. The only difference was their clothing style. He was born with a silver spoon received better gifts, and as for the common had it much worse. The boy felt proud and smiled softly to himself by the choice of not following one of the father"s workers. Thinking he"d understand how most people felt, and how he must"ve related their problem with his. But the fact of Maxwell leaving him held the boy down. He still wasn"t free after such a long time dedicated to searching. Hot tears began to well up again while the boy remained unfazed. He wanted to cry. He wanted to scream. So hard his throat would burn. "Was it.. my fault?" He continued. "Was it my fault that you left Maxwell?.." The boy screamed at the top of his lungs questions as he aware of no answers. It didn"t seem like he did. Sobbing and sobbing after quite a while until it felt right to stop. Not yet. The clouds outside were dark and heavy enough to start raining. At the worse time. Having protection from the tree"s branches and leaves the boy huddled up close with his knees. The child wanted to stay for a bit longer but remembering he"d listen to complaints made it otherwise. He began to run with both arms over his head for further protection. His jacket was still at home, which he forgot about. Another thing he regretted was sitting in a dried up area, causing his pants from behind dirtied. As his nose cleared he smelled the rain"s fresh perfume. Although it simply was light rain, it looks as if it were to be more. Darker clouds were settled in the sky. Many of those dark droplets covered the boy"s clothes and soon enough, he grew goosebumps. And eventually, a pause. It was not the boy himself, but someone else catching up to him. With a loud and bare voice alone, he was able to hear it clearly. "WAIT UP!" The boy turned around and looked for the source of the voice, leading to ravenette around his age. From far away, the boy had thought the figure was to be a worker or a stranger. But when up close, it was one of the commoners from the village ahead. He wore an old leather hat that seemed bigger than his head, his plain white collared shirt and buckled-up khakis drenched by the rain. He definitely wasn"t someone the boy recognized. He tensed up, debating whether he should run or answer. Sounding as if the ravenette needed something. Just that alone persuaded him. "What is it?" He asked. The ravenette huffed and puffed in response. Bent over and placed his hand on his knees. As for the other with what seemed like a plush doll in hand. Maxwell. Before the ravenette was about to continue, the other snatches the plush doll from his hands. Overwhelmed, he touched all over the bear and immediately knew it was his own. A broken arm and a slit near its neck were the only things different. "Maxwell.." He mumbled. The bear in his arms who his friend whom ran away. Ran away and caused more pain to them. The only answer was the boy himself. Already, a soft smile appeared. "I guess this is yours then-" The ravenette started to say, but then was cut off. "Answers," He demanded. "What?" "What happened to his neck?" He asked. The more he thought was enough to have him frustrated. "His neck is broken!" "The dogs out there did it. Wasn"t me." He shook his head and straightened his back. He huffed. The slit was big enough to the point he was able to fit his whole hand in there. It could have just been his imagination, but it seemed as if the slit became bigger. Remembering the complaints he had to deal with once he came back, the conversation had to end. "Do you want me to sew it back for you?" The ravenette said. "On one condition though." The other paused and nodded. As long as he doesn"t break the promise nor bother the workers, it was fine. Basically a win-win. For a kid around his age himself, one he had never seen nor talked to either, who actually does know what he"s thinking. He recoiled his hand. Wiped them on his clothing and held it out. Another smile. A sly one this time. "Hide me first." __________________________________ He"s awaited by misfortunes.
