Kat and Jacob beamed to the Phoenix safe house to gather Ashe, then teleported to a high, rocky ridge.
She looked around, feeling stretched and disoriented from the jump. “Where are we?”
“The Guadalupe Mountains in New Mexico,” said Jacob. “The caves here are older than time. Carlsbad Cavern is the most famous, but there are many others. Secret ones.”
They made their way up a steep hill covered with scrubby plants and boulders till they reached a rock formation in the shape of a castle tower.
Ashe felt around the base of the structure with his hands.
“Ah, there it is.”
A clicking noise sounded, and the rock face slid open, revealing a hidden entrance.
