Chapter 1: He Sees Without Eyes
“Silence!” a voice said not loud, not low, but powerful. The whole room fell silent, everyone confused. “You said something, didn't you? Come here.” The voice said again.
Everyone looked around, heads turned looking for who he was referring to, at the far corner of the room, a man swallowed hard, scared out of his wits, he knew what he said.
A while ago, the pack assembled in the hall. It was the weekly meeting held on Thursdays.
The Fang Hall, where all the pack meetings were held, is a large, fancy hall, with murals and statues of wolves, and two swords, crossed at the back of the hall on the wall.
Two men were talking in hushed voices, at the back, “I know Alpha Kael is all powerful but won't his blindness make our kingdom look weak, just days ago, that mere Shadow pack, the beta made fun of our kingdom”.
“Really, the beta said that, and they are not even in the top packs in the kingdom. How dare they?” The other one muttered angrily, still in low tones.
“Can you blame them though?” The first sneered. “A blind Alpha has never ruled the Nightfang Kingdom, perhaps he is cursed…”
The doors of the hall opened, tall, imposing and covered in black, and Kael walked inside, his ceremonial black cane with him, his steps confident and measured.
His sightless silver eyes fixed forward like he could see every soul in the room, his presence and aura was not a joke, his voice alone gave them chills not to talk of his presence.
“I normally ignore all the rumors, but we're in the sacred hall, show some respect, you know who has walked in this hall, don’t speak rubbish in this hall, after the meeting you can discuss that.” Kael said calmly, but coldly.
His head tilted slightly, though blind, his gaze landed precisely on the man at the back.
The men were surprised he heard them, he wasn't even inside the hall yet, everywhere became deadly silent.
“Now, let's begin, an alliance is coming up, every pack of the Nightfang Kingdom is meeting soon to discuss the problem at hand. The witches are becoming bolder in their works.”
“They even dared to impersonate some of us, if we don't do something to stop them.” He paused, unease spread across the room. “They are going to be able to change into one of us and we won't be able to identify them. That is why we're forming the alliance.” He continued and
Leon picked up.
Leon Samael, stepped beside him, Kael’s beta and the only man Kael trusted completely as himself.
“The alliance coming up is with two other kingdoms, the Mooncrest Kingdom and Ironfang Kingdom, they're the closest and also the most powerful kingdoms besides ours, so we're having a meeting with them before we form the alliance.”
“We might rule differently but we do share a common enemy and that is the Nightshade Coven.” continued Leon
“They're the most powerful witches and they have the ability to change into one of us, so we have to be careful from now on.” said Leon sharply as he steps back slightly, everyone in the room mumbling in hushed voices after his words sink in.
Kael tilts his head slightly, he lets a few minutes pass by for the pack to settle down, he could hear most of them, they had doubts and were scared.
He is unfazed even by the noise, and breathes deeply, “Are you all done?” Silence.
“The meeting is adjourned.” He says, they all started to leave the hall.
Leon, who was standing before, sits down near Kael, he sighs, “It's a whole mess, the council is getting worried about the witches' threats and the pack, I don't even want to get started on that.” he said, palm faced.
“If this meeting takes place and the alliance is forged, then there's nothing to worry about, we will get the witches. And the pack, just ignore them.” replied Kael calmly.
“Ohh really says the guy who called out those men for talking trash.” Leon grins, “I mean you could have ignored them but ya didn't. You shut them up and scared the s**t out of them.” He chuckles.
“I'm pretty sure the whole pack is more afraid of you than the witches.”
“Oh yeah, more scared of a blind Alpha than a whole coven of witches.”Kael sneers. “Yeah, they're.” Leon counters.
“That reminds me, where's Riven? He didn't attend, did he?” Asked Kael because he couldn't sense Riven 's scent, “No, I didn't see him in the meeting.” Leon responded, his expression changed.
“He does this on purpose, alpha, he did the same thing last time, he is the gamma, he is supposed to attend the pack meeting.” said Leon frustrated.
Kael’s face showed no expression, “When you get a hold of him, tell him to report to my office.”
“Yes, alpha.” Leon replies while Kael leaves, then he follows.
Riven arrives and is summoned, he strolls in late, unbothered. He enters Kael's office, sees Kael seated behind his desk, power radiating from him. He hated how he felt his aura.
Kael, seated behind his desk, calm and unreadable, he senses him already.
“Sit, Riven.” Kael commanded. He couldn't sit without Kael’s permission, so he scoffed and sat.
“Why were you not in today's meeting, you missed the last one too, you're the gamma, if you can't do your work properly, I’d gladly give someone else the position.” Kael said seriously.
He knew he wasn't joking, he tried to remain unfazed, “They were other important matters I had to attend to.”
“More important than the meeting, you do know that we're meeting with the two other kingdoms to plan against the witches.” Kael stated.
Kael questions if he considered himself above the pack, Riven answers respectfully on the surface but with clear disrespect underneath.
“The pack needs someone who can lead them, cousin, with certainty, strength and vision.” Riven said with a smug smile.
Kael responds coldly, reminding Riven that the only reason he stands where he does is because he allows it.
“Defy me again, and I will forget we share blood.” Kael warns him.
Then Riven leaves but not before answering him, “Perhaps blood is why you certainly need to be careful, Alpha.” He bows slightly.
Before he could leave, Kael countered him, calmly and coldly, “Good, you know who is in control here, regardless of blood, careful also cousin.”
Riven leaves, his expression hardened, Kael’s expression shifts, like he sensed something, “Something is coming.” The voice tells him.
