Sophie Bennett walked away from Ethan Blackwood ten years ago, choosing her dignity over a man who loved his empire more than he loved her. What she never told him was that she left carrying his child. Now, a decade later, Sophie has built a quiet life around her sharp, observant daughter, Lily — until fate forces her back into Ethan’s world when he sees the little girl and instantly knows the truth.

Ethan, now a powerful and unyielding billionaire CEO, refuses to lose another decade. He demands custody, determined to claim his daughter, but before they can settle anything privately, the media exposes Lily as his secret heir. Overnight, Sophie and Lily are thrown into a ruthless world of boardroom politics, inheritance battles, and a vengeful fiancée who will not surrender her place without a fight. Forced to live under the same roof for Lily’s safety, old wounds reopen, passion reignites, and enemies move in the shadows.

“They are here,” the staff murmured, moving up and down the company stairs. Sophie Bennett peeped through her office window. The moment Sophie Bennett saw the black cars outside her office building, her stomach growled. Not just any cars, but Blackwood cars. Glossy, tinted and unique. The kind that would not arrive unless something, or someone important was about to be claimed. She stood still, on the sidewalk. Employers gathered in clusters, gossiping about the company being bought by a billionaire. Sophie didn’t need clarification. Blackwood Enterprises had been roaming the company for months now. Rumors of acquiring the company had floated like soft rumbles. She had told herself it wouldn’t happen, that her small marketing firm wasn’t worth his attention. She was wrong. Lily turned her head towards Sophie’s direction. “Mom, are those important people?” Sophie forced a smile. “Very.” The back door of the lead car opened. And Ethan Blackwood stepped out. Time went back in her head.. Ten years ago, Sophie walked away from Ethan’s dominance and business life. She felt like loving him was a burden in heart and did not get enough affection. Now he stood taller. Sharper. Harder. His suit was tailored in black, his expression seemed unreadable and his presence alone was like a command of silence. Then landed on Sophie. The world narrowed. He didn’t react immediately. No widening of eyes. No visible shock. That had always been Ethan’s strength — control. But she knew him. She saw it. Recognition, calculation, and something darker. “Mama?” Lily whispered again. Sophie swallowed. “Let’s go inside.” Ethan was already walking toward her. Each step he took pronounced confidence and power. He paused, and for a moment, all of them went silent. “Sophie,” he said quietly. Her name in his voice did something dangerous to her chest. “Mr. Blackwood,” she whispered. “Congratulations to you and your team for acquiring the company.” She said, as she swallowed hard. “It isn’t finalized,” he said. His eyes moved towards Lily’s direction. Lily shifted closer to her side, curious but cautious. “Mama, who is he?” Ethan looked back at Sophie. A thousand unspoken questions sat between them. “Who is she? Why didn’t I know? How long?” Ethan said. Sophie’s heart pounded for a second, but she didn’t make herself sound tense.. “He’s a businessman,” she told Lily. “He owns the company buying Mama’s office.” Ethan looked at her with surprise. “Just that?” he asked softly. Sophie said confidently, “Yes.” Lily studied him openly. “You look like someone from TV.” Ethan gave a weary smile, “Do I?” She nodded seriously. “You look important.” “Lily,” Sophie said gently. Ethan repeated the name in his mind, and asked her of her age. Sophie’s heart raced. “Ten,” Lily replied proudly. Ten, the number hit like a loaded weapon. Ethan stood slowly. Ten years ago, Sophie had left him without looking back, saying she can’t do this anymore. No return calls and no checking back. He did the math instantly, his eyes moved back to her, not angry but just calculating. “Interesting,” he said quietly. Sophie forced a calm breath. “We should go. Lily has homework.” “Of course,” he said smoothly. Too smoothly. Sophie wanted to leave, but when he called her name, she had to pause. She didn't want to look back, but she couldn’t resist it. “We have to talk,” Ethan said, not with a commanding tone though. There was no accusation in his tone, which made it worse. “I have nothing to say to you,” she replied. “That’s rarely true”, he said with a steady gaze. Lily looked between them. “Mama?” Sophie softened instantly. “It’s okay.” Ethan stood fully now, slipping back into controlled CEO mode as several executives approached nervously. “We’ll schedule something,” he said calmly. “Privately.” It wasn’t a suggestion, she felt the old pressure creeping in — the way he used to decide things before asking her. “No,” she said confidently. “No?” Ethan said, adjusting his posture. “You don’t get to summon me.” Sophie added. He said, respectfully. “Very well. Then I’ll wait.” “For what?” Sophie said almost losing control. “For you to stop pretending this isn’t happening.” He replied. Her breath caught, he wasn’t guessing, he knew. She couldn’t respond. She took Lily’s hand and walked into the building, forcing herself to keep moving without looking back. Ethan ordered his guards and they left. That night, Sophie could not sleep. Lily was sleeping and now the apartment seemed quiet, but it was loud in Sophie’s head.. Sophie sat on the dining table, after cleaning. The moment when Ethan looked at Lily as if he noticed something in her, kept recurring in her head. The memories of ten years ago rang in her head too. She left him without looking back. She had convinced herself that might be the only way to protect her heart from his love. After a moment, her phone buzzed, she picked it up and was surprised to see an unknown number on the screen. Her pulse raised for a moment. She considered letting it ring out, but she already knew who it was. Ethan never avoided what he wanted. He confronted it. She answered. “Hello?” The caller did not respond to her greetings, just went silent and had a bit of control. Then his voice came through- Ethan “Ten years, Sophie.” Her fingers held onto the phone tightly. “What do you want, Ethan?” “I want the truth.” He said Her heart stumbled. “There is no truth to give.” “You left me without explanation,” he said. “You disappeared. And today I met a ten-year-old with the same resemblance as me” Sophie’s heartbeat fastened. “You’re imagining things.” “I don’t imagine,” he replied. “I confirm.” The confidence in his tone made her jaw drop. She could feel his investigation. “You’re thinking too far, Ethan,” she said quietly. “No, I’m realizing”. He said with a little emotion. The word settled like a threat. “She has my eyes.” Ethan said confidently Her eyes rolled, she pressed her free hand against the table to control herself. Ethan exhaled slowly. “Ten years old,” he whispered. “You left in March. Ten years ago.” She became afraid. He had always been good with numbers. “If she’s mine,” he continued, speaking with a lot more control, “you don’t get to decide that I stay away.” “She’s my daughter,” Sophie said, barely holding back her anger. “I raised her and I protected her. You don’t get to walk in because you suspect something.” “I’m not suspecting,” he said again. “I’m confirming.” The confidence in those words chilled her. She could already see him presenting evidence. “Ethan, be careful,” she said, with a shaking voice. Ethan went silent for a moment, but when he spoke again, it was not his initial tone. He was no longer talking like a businessman. It was a man who had just discovered he might have lost something of himself. “If she’s my daughter,” Ethan said slowly, “then you didn’t just leave me ten years ago, you took my child with you.” Sophie was scared already. Before she could give any response, the line went off. Sophie stared at the phone, with tears gathered around her eyes. Her hands were not balanced. She knew this day would surely come, but didn’t expect it this fast. While she was thinking about that, she heard Lily move in her sleep, softly. Sophie stood from the dinning quietly and walked to her daughter’s room. She opened the door gently and saw Lily sleeping peacefully, unaware of the chaos about unraveling around her little life. She closed the door, and left for bed. For ten years, she had been praying for this not to happen, she had convinced herself that she did the right thing. A notification popped on her screen. It was an email notification. Her tummy growled as she picked up her phone. The sender’s name made her tummy rumble. Blackwood & Pierce Law Firm. Her fingers went cold as she opened it. The subject line says “Request for Immediate Paternity Confirmation.” Sophie’s vision blurred for a moment as she scanned her eyes through the email, with her eyes catching the paternity confirmation and legal languages. Her hands began to shake; she was scared. He did not wait, but took action almost immediately. The last line says, “Mr. Ethan Blackwood is prepared to pursue full parental rights.” Sophie felt like the ground was about to melt. She heard Lily move quietly again and called softly, “Mama?” Sophie swallowed hard, dropping her phone to go meet Lily. And for the longest time, she panicked over something this serious. She hadn’t escaped him. She had only delayed him. And now… He was coming for his daughter—would he take her away?
