Astron stood atop the southwestern tower preparing to settle in for another summer night. At least, that was what he wanted to do. But he forced himself to stay awake a bit longer on the off chance that something happened. It hadn’t so far, but there was always the possibility, and he wanted to be right there when it did. He often kept himself up late since taking up residence in the tower, and was usually quite tired during the day as a result. But he couldn’t help it: He had a job to do. Leaning on the pole of his spear, he looked out to the fields beyond. Out in the distant woods he espied the glow of Saltrak campfires. The enemy was still there all right, just as he was still here. He sighed as his eyes began to close and his head began to sink. He snapped himself back into alertness
