Lieutenant Rorke was up brighter and earlier than usual this morning, and felt surprisingly full of energy. He surveyed his surroundings and his companions. Still the same as the day before, though young Leah looked a little worse off. She had for some time now, and it concerned him. After all, she was the youngest of the captives, and had always been a bit fragile. He had had some doubts about bringing her, but Captain Torilis insisted she come along for her excellent bow skill. She could “pin a medal on you at thirty yards,” as he said, and did indeed win every archery contest she competed in. Not that it did her much good now. Then there was Filbert.
