King Edward stood in the early dawn light with his deadliest gaze fixed the western gate from the very edge of the tree line. Had the Saurahallers known he was standing there, they could have easily ended this siege with a single arrow. But as it was they did not, and so Edward remained quite safe. He was extremely angry with Ulric right now for the blundering error, and even more so when he discovered the chieftain’s dagger that Carl had thrown away the night before. If Carl had not been his enemy before, he certainly was now. But, being a quick thinker, he had come up with a way to turn the blunder into an advantage.
