Elena Voss was rejected by her fated mate in front of the entire pack — humiliated, powerless, and left for dead in the woods. Three years later, she returns as the Beta of a rival pack, stronger, sharper, and done playing victim. But when Alpha Damian Cross realizes the mate he threw away is now the woman standing between him and everything he wants, the hunt begins — except this time, Elena isn't running. She's the one setting the trap.

Marked by the Rejected Alpha
# Marked by the Rejected Alpha ## Chapter 1: The Rejection The scent of pine and rain hit Elena Voss's senses seconds before the entire Silverfang pack turned to stare at her. Three hundred wolves. Three hundred pairs of eyes. And in the center of the clearing, standing on the raised stone dais reserved for the Alpha's line, stood Damian Cross — the man the moon goddess herself had chosen to be her mate. He was beautiful in the way storms are beautiful. Dangerous to admire. "Elena Voss," the pack elder called, "step forward and complete the bonding." Her wolf howled inside her chest, desperate, joyful, already reaching toward him through the bond neither of them had asked for. She stepped forward on legs that trembled — not from fear, but from a pull so powerful it felt like gravity had rewritten itself around one man. Damian's eyes found hers. For half a second, something flickered there — recognition, maybe even want. Then it was gone. "I reject this bond," he said. His voice didn't shake. It carried across the clearing like a verdict. The pack gasped as one. Rejection was rare. Public rejection, in front of the full moon gathering, was rarer still — and infinitely crueler. It didn't just refuse the mate bond. It severed it, tearing through the mind and body of the rejected wolf like claws through silk. Elena felt her knees buckle before she understood why. The pain came a half-second later, a white-hot wire dragged through her ribs, through her skull, through the very marrow of what made her *her*. She heard herself make a sound she didn't recognize. "You don't deserve to lead beside me," Damian continued, loud enough for every wolf present to remember it forever. "A Voss has no place at the head of this pack." *A Voss.* Not *Elena*. Not even *her*. Just the name of a bloodline he'd already decided was beneath him. She didn't cry. She promised herself that later, kneeling in the dirt with half her soul torn loose — she would not give him her tears in front of his pack. "Then I release you too," she said, and her voice, cracked as it was, still carried. "Enjoy your throne, Alpha. I hope it's cold." She turned before the healers could reach her, walked into the treeline on legs made of glass, and did not look back once. --- **Three Years Later** The Ashwood pack's beta didn't knock. She simply walked into war councils like she owned the room, because in every way that mattered to Ashwood, she did. "The border patrol found Silverfang scent markers two miles inside our territory," Elena said, dropping a map onto the table. Three years of training, three years of climbing from broken omega to the second-most powerful wolf in a pack that wasn't even hers by blood, had sharpened everything about her — her voice, her spine, the cold precision in her eyes. "They're testing us." Alpha Marcus Ashwood, the man who had picked her up half-dead in these very woods three winters ago and never once asked her to explain the scars, leaned over the map. "Silverfang hasn't crossed a border in two years. Why now?" Elena's jaw tightened. She already knew why. She'd felt it a week ago — a phantom pull low in her chest, one she'd thought long dead. The bond was supposed to be severed. Rejections didn't reverse. Unless the Alpha who rejected her was in trouble. Unless *his* wolf, somewhere underneath three years of arrogance, was starting to regret it. "Doesn't matter why," she said instead, folding her arms. "If Damian Cross wants to test Ashwood's border, I'll be the one who answers." Marcus studied her for a long moment — the kind of look that saw more than she wanted him to. "You sure you can face him again?" Elena smiled, and it did not reach her eyes. "Marcus, I'm not the girl who fell apart in his forest anymore." She rolled up the map, sharp and final. "This time, if anyone kneels — it's going to be him." --- *End of Chapter 1*
