Jaxon
Despite all of her attempts to stop us from having fun like Aiden had wanted, it all worked out. Although it still played on her face, the anger or disappointment perhaps.
All through the drive and until we got to the venue. Hailey didn't budge and only pretended to be happy when her son spoke to her or even touched her. I guess Adrian observed it because of how he constantly turned towards her.
On a normal note, I wasn't supposed to be bothered by her actions, whether it was good or bad. Sadly, here I was, feeling slightly awkward about the situation.
Was I ruining anything for her?
"Whoa!" Aiden broke the silence in the car while we were driving. I was driving, and he was sitting on Adrian's lap in the front seat.
When I took a glance at him, to know the reason for his excitement, I could see him looking around, his eyes glittering in happiness at the sight of the Christmas decorations and lights that hugged the whole of Brook Road in Seattle.
"You like what you see?" I asked, already aware of what he was excited at.
"I bet it was a good idea to have a fun time outside the hospital." Adrian chipped in, smiling largely at him.
“Yee! Look at all these decorations and fireworks." Aiden spoke, his eyes still out, watching. His excitement was close to being uncontrollable as he was on the verge of jumping out of the window.
"This is how beautiful Christmas is. Seattle seems to take Christmas celebrations more seriously than any other country, I guess." Adrian said, and I could feel his eyes on me while I was driving.
" Look!" Aiden screamed, jumping on his uncle's lap, at the same time pointing at what he wanted us to see outside.
"I want to be on that roller coaster, just the moment we were close to passing by the funfair." He added afterwards.
"Okay. Okay. Point taken, sir. Today's outing is totally dedicated to you, so you don't need to be worried." I said, and Adrian and I chuckled, watching him still jumping in excitement.
"Uncle, I want to be on the rollercoaster like the other kids." Aiden turned towards Adrian. This time, his face was wearing a sad look. It felt as though he was on the verge of bursting into tears.
"Of course you would. You don't have to be sad, Aiden." Adrian answered, smoothing his hair.
However, our little man didn't say anything after the response from his uncle. Instead, he turned back, his head bowed, while he quietly played with his fingers. Adrian and I exchanged glances with each other. Neither of us understood what had gone wrong at that moment, or perhaps if we had said anything wrong.
Pretty soon, the drive was engulfed into total silence, with an unhappy Aiden. I found my heart suddenly pinned with a heavy burden that terribly needed to be lifted.
From the front view mirror, I began to watch Hailey. Her eyes were fixed outside like nothing was happening at the moment, which was any of her concern. I didn't want to believe that she was happy that her son had suddenly gone quiet, drifting into the land of silence. If not, wasn't she supposed to do anything? Or, perhaps try helping us as his mother in finding out what could have gone wrong?
Honestly, this woman was something else. It was at that moment I came to such a conclusion about her.
"Okay, Aiden, listen up." I put an end to the silence the moment I had had enough of it and Hailey's nonchalant attitude. Although I was still driving, the reason for my eyes which were heavily fixed on the road, I could tell that Aiden and Adrian had both turned to stare at me in expectation of what I had to say.
"Why don't we fully do it however you want?" I suggested taking a quick glance at him and passing him a quick yet soft smile.
"What do you mean, uncle?" His voice was low, and the sadness glared in it. I just hoped my suggestion would be the solution to what I assumed to be his problem because that was what I assumed could have caused him to go sad immediately.
"You choose. Which do you want to do first?" I began.
"Would you like to go to the funfair first before we head to the Royals Exclusive Diner for our final night?" I finally dropped the bomb.
Thanks to the traffic sign that caused me to stop, I was able to watch him for a few minutes. Slowly, I watched his face begin to build up the smile as he equally thought deeply about what I had said.
"Really? You're going to accept whatever it is I want to do first?" He asked the moment I resumed driving.
"Yes,of course. Right, Adrian?" I took a quick glance at my best friend.
"Yes. Yes, of course. Whatever it is you want to do first, Aiden. Think of it as our Christmas present to you." Adrian supported
"Yee!" Again, Aiden went back to jumping happily on his uncle's lap.
"Stop it, Aiden! We're in a car." Hailey's command suddenly came in, taking us aback. I turned to look at her again from the front view mirror. Unfortunately, our eyes locked gazes instantly.
I could see it, the irritation and sheer unhappiness that clouded her stares. Before looking away from me, she glared at me, dutifully passing the message that nothing good could ever happen between the both of us. Not like, I even expected or wanted that.
"Get yourself together, Jaxon. You can't afford to get beaten or troubled by a mere woman." My subconscious reminded me, and I could only let out a deep breath as an acceptance to the reminder.
Within a few seconds, I realized that everywhere had quieted down again, and I didn't get a response from Aiden.
"Aiden," I called out.
"But we've driven far from the fun fair. it's going to be a waste of fuel." The little boy said, sounding more mature than I could ever imagine.
"Oh, come on, Aiden." I laughed. "You know I'm a billionaire, right?" I turned to pass him a wink.
"Tch!" I could swear that it had come from Hailey at the back. The scoff.
Was she really making fun of me? Did she think I was showing off in front of her son?
"Really?" Aiden's voice brought me back to reality.
"Just say the word, little man.”
"Okay then." I was lucky to see the grin appear on his face. "I want to have fun at the funfair first.”
"As you wish, sire." I said, and with that, I took a sharp turn by my left, heading back.
