Chapter 3

I'm done fixing my combat shoes. I am all packed! And I am ready for the mission! Hell, yeah! This is going to be a frivolous game of adventure.

I carried my two bags to the ground mobility vehicle that we would drive later. This is the service of soldiers when there is a combat battle or mission assigned to remote areas.

Isn't it cool? Yeah, cool as ice.

Coles and Dern followed me. Even when they are lazy to act.

My eyebrows wrinkled when I saw Akey carrying his cat again! What the effin!

"I told you to leave that cat here!"

I’ve been fighting him before and I’m already mad because of the cat.

“He needs home!” Akey insisted. His ear is already red because he is annoyed.

“Are you serious?! Home? We are in the middle of the jungle, and you're going on the mission! This is not a pet orphanage, it’s not your house! That will only be a hindrance!”

I have high blood pressure because of this man.

“Let him be, he is the one who is responsible for Pandy. It's not you,” Coles suddenly inserted again.

While Dern was just quiet and listening to our arguments.

I turned my back out of frustration. I even caught the cat staring at me and seemed to be laughing!

I swear, if I have enough time, I will kill that freaking cat! They must take care of their lives!

We were in the middle of arranging our belongings in the back of the ground mobility vehicle when Sir Sua suddenly approached us. Maybe he has something to remind.

We saluted to him and did an attention pose.

Sir Sua looked at us seriously one by one. His eyes are full of courage, yet there's dread with it.

“I am hoping for a successful operation with your team, Miss Cordova. I am looking forward to your team accomplishments. This mission is not a game, this is a serious one. We do not know who is our opponents, they are mysterious. . .”

“That's why your mission is to find out what's with that perilous forest and solve those phenomena. I am expected more from this team, thus, do not disappoint me. Remember always the buddy-buddy system, do not left your buddies behind.”

At once we replied to him, "Sir, yes, Sir!"

Sir Sua smiled, “Mr. Lieutenant Coropol is the one responsible with all of you now. Good luck.”

He tapped us one by one on the shoulder before saluting. He then turned his back and approached a soldier who was also one of our commanders here in training — Sir Coropol.

I just closed my eyes tightly.

Coropol is one of the closest friends of my dad in the military field. This mission is going to be truly challenging. And worst, Sir Coropol is in charge of our team now while we are on the mission.

I fisted my hand tightly because of that thought.

We were already on board on the ground mobility vehicle. After an hour Sir Coropol instructed us. Our legs hurt first on the stand before we got here in the car.

Not only were the four of us there but we were with soldiers with military rank. I think we are just being sucked in and no one knows.

But, we must not surrender, we must show them that we can keep up with them. In the state of the three— Akey, Dern and Coles are impossible for that to happen.

Sir Coropol said earlier that it was about two hours to drive before reaching the Perilous forest they say.

During these times I am also starting to think, what kind of opponents will meet us there.

I hated the team under this mission, they should study first the whats and the ifs, before sending us to that forest.

We have no idea what our opponent is. I brushed my hair in frustration. This is making my head explode at any minute.

I could feel Dern pushing me. Why am I being between a nerd and a still-cool?

I simply looked at Dern then raised an eyebrow. Don't make the mistake of raising his voice when he wants to say something to me, and he might be the first I will punch in this mission.

"Just whisper if you don't want me to make fun of you," I whispered threateningly to him.

I saw the movement of his adam's apple, emphasizing that he is afraid of me.

“I-I just want to tell you. . . this mission is mysterious.”

I scratched my nose so hard. Didn’t he read the document sent to us last night?

“Will you just shut your f*****g mouth? Just bring out everything you want to say later when we're there. Not here, I was distracted by the three eggs in front of us. . .” I whispered back to him, annoyed.

I closed my eyes tightly when Dern laughed out loud. I don’t know where made him laughed at what I said.

I turned to Coles who seemed to have heard what I said and even he was laughing. I gave him a questioning look. Maybe this one is weak in signals.

“The eggs word. . .” Coles whispered as an answer to me while laughing.

I bit my lip so hard and also suppressed my laugh.

Shit! Did I hear it right? I described our companion using the egg word, right? They look like eggs because of their haircut, oh, s**t!

Dern, Coles and I, stop laughing when Akey laughed so strong.

I frowned because he had a late reaction again. Now, everyone's eyes are on him.

I closed my eyes.

I wish I could make my dad proud after this. How I wish he could see my worth this time. So, I will do everything not to be defeated in this mission.

Maybe after this, I will see my older brother's dead body that has not been seen until now.

It was almost one year and a half before my brother died, but the soldiers told us that my brother is dead and there is no dead body of his sees.

So, until now dad still hopes that his favourite son is still alive. And he has left himself to find his son. That way his head would always get hot because of fatigue, and he forgot that I am also his daughter.

Since mommy died, father has changed, and he has changed even more when his son also disappeared.

I want him back to normal. I want to experience his smiles on me and that with love again — five years ago. Where I was only fifteen years old.

That is why I choose to be in this field; to make myself a resemblance to my elder brother. that way, dad might accept me; maybe that way he will see me as his daughter.

Even if not as Ravey Cordova — his lovely daughter before — but as a Raved Cordova — who is brave and capable of being a man.

I want to see again those smiles of my dad. He is the only one that I have, and I do not want to lose him too.
