Chapter 2

Chapter 2 I WAS staring at the bonfire as if it were a game, trying to figure out who would give up first and change direction. But in the end, it was I who gave up first. Sir Sua's mission was true because he had sent documents about what we would do there to his secretary earlier. So, after putting my belongings away, I came here. I'd rather be alone than with those three knuckleheads. It would have been preferable if I had decided what to do as soon as I arrived in the forest where our mission was assigned. This requires caution and preparation on my part. Because this mission is part of the exam, I must succeed or else Dad will be ashamed of me. I'm here because I want to make him proud of me as his daughter. He's changed since my mother died. He was always hardheaded and despised me. As if I weren't his daughter. He always favoured my older brother, whom he praised even after he died as a soldier on a mission. Yes, my brother was a former soldier, but he was killed in a terrorist attack. And I'm sorry for that. I played with my stick while watching the fire become a piece of wood. When they let it engulf the fire, I see that human life is just that simple. That was extremely fast. I took a deep breath then looked up at the sky. I grinned sarcastically. Stars. I wish I could be like them; even in the dark, I'd be glowing. I snorted and scratched my nose a lot. Corny. The tents are all around the area. Messy. The mud is everywhere it was because of the rain yesterday. I was enveloped by darkness; loneliness and gripped. The chirping of insects all I heard and the laughter of the soldiers nearby who are enjoying their last night. They are singing and dancing while singing a game with a twist. I hope I could also enjoy that, but not. I closed my eyes deeply. I should have been reading the information again about our mission. But here I am, sitting as if I am lost in the middle of the woods. “You should have told us you were here. So you weren’t alone in this area,” said Coles, who was still mumbling while standing in front of me, not far away. I let out a sigh. Dern and Akey were also following Coles. I was overwhelmed by emptiness. Seriously?! What exactly are they doing here? They have once again disturbed my peaceful world. I’m still not a fan of meditation. “What are you all doing here? You must be sleeping in the tent right now because we’ll be up as early as a bird tomorrow.” They sat around the bonfire. I’m disgusted, I want to be alone but here they are and ruining my momentum! Ugh! “We are a team. Where the leader is, the member should be followed,” Akey suddenly whispered. I stared at him when I saw he was holding a cat. My brows furrowed as I stared at the cat. Eye to eye. “Akey, where did you find that?” That is not permitted here! Would you like to punish us?” I threatened him, but it didn't work. Ugh! This is giving me a headache. I hated cats! “Ravey, take a deep breath... ” Coles is calming me down. When I turned around, I glared at him. "Who told you to call me that?" “Doesn't that sound nice? It's as if there's something sweet about you, even if it's just a rumour.” "We're not close!" I mocked him. “So don't call me names.” Coles glared at me. “Your words! Sometimes it's your problem too. I don't know if you're gay or a woman?” I ignored him and I looked badly at Akey. His cat seemed to be laughing at me. Is it licking its tail as if insulting me! “When I see that cat tomorrow, Akey. . . I will strangle you!” I shouted angrily at him, then stood up. I turned to them and they were looking at me. I raised an eyebrow. I spoke proudly. "Don't you ever follow me!" "We won't follow you," Dern snapped, making my head heat up even more. “Your head is always hot. Do you always have visitors?” Coles pissed me off. I want to punch him in his disgusting face! But only then, and maybe that's the reason for Sir Sua to take me on the mission tomorrow. And one more thing, that might add to my dad's embarrassment. I no longer just financed them and walked away. It would be better for me to just sleep in the tent than to talk to those idiots.
