Chapter- 1
Norri The blood splattered on the floor while my sister and I covered our mouths so we wouldn’t make any noise and get killed like our family in the living room. We heard the sound of the blade slicing and the twisting of heads; we sat there without doing anything. Until now, we had never seen anything like this before; we were a family living in the suburbs of the Linden Valley. Every day, we went to school, occasionally went fishing with our dad, grew our crops on the farm and lived our best life. My dad was the one who would never hurt a fly; he was the kindest person we could ever have. Our mum was the bravest and the politest woman I had ever seen; we were a family of seven. I had three brothers, all aged twenty with one gap year each and a sister who was nineteen; everyone was older than me. Now everything crumbled to the ground. “WHERE ARE YOUR DAUGHTERS?” someone in the gang yelled. I flinched; my sister put her hand on my shoulder and urged me to get into one of the cupboards in the corner. I crawled to one of them; we heard footsteps. I looked back at my sister; she pushed me in. As soon as I got in, I heard the footsteps getting closer, but my sister was still not with me. The second I thought about looking out, I heard her screams. I was scared to look out, but I had to do something, so I took the baseball bat and walked out to help her. She was already in motion, but that guy was choking her. I ran towards them and hit that guy with the bat on his head. He let go of her and turned to look at me. He cursed under his breath and slapped me to the floor. I heard a gunshot, and I looked at my sister, who had a gun in her hand and was aiming at him. He rushed towards her to knock her down, but she shot her shot; she shot him in the chest. He fell and knocked her down again. I grabbed the baseball bat and hit him on the head; he turned with an annoyed look on his face. “You little piece of shi—" My sister broke the baseball bat and plunged it into his back and right into his heart. He slowly turned to see her, but even before he could, he collapsed on the floor, his ashes slowly flying into the air. “Oh my god, what the hell, Aurora?” I started screaming. I had never seen someone turn into ashes with a stick in their heart. She ran to me. “Look,” she turned my face, and I was looking at the ashes with my eyes widened. I looked at her. “What is that?” “That’s not important. LOOK AT ME,” she snapped at me, which made me focus on what she was saying. “Go, find this person." She grabbed my brother’s phone, which was lying on the desk, and gave it to me. “Here, you have all the information. Find him. He will help you know everything.” I shook my head, tears welling up in my eyes. “But what about you?” She groaned, “I don’t know if I can make it.” We heard inaudible voices and footsteps running towards us. “Look, Norri, go find him, change your name, and go somewhere where no one could find you.” She pushed me towards the back window and opened a door I had never seen before. “Go straight and down; this path will lead you to the lake. GO." “No, I don’t want to leave you." I was crying and begging her to come with me. I didn’t want to leave, but she didn’t listen. She pushed me onto that path and closed the door. I was on the floor trying to get a handle on everything that was going on, and my heart skipped a beat when I heard my sister’s screams. Everything was quiet for a while. I closed my mouth and never let my cry out. I ran towards the exit as she had said. I put the phone in my pocket and made my way down the path. It was dark out here, but the way was clear for me; I could see clearly. I walked while crying my eyes out without making a noise. My heart was beating so loudly, my whole body started shivering, and I was shaking. For a while, I couldn’t even take one step. As I reached the path, I saw a light from the corner; it could’ve been the rays of sunlight. I climbed out of the pathway, and fresh air brushed my face, which gave me shivers. I wanted to scream out loud. An hour ago, I had a family; we were happy, and now everyone was dead. The only people I had in my life are dead, and now I have to find this mysterious guy to survive. All the questions rolled around in my head: What is he? Who is this man? What did my sister know that I didn’t? Who are we? What are we exactly? Why did they kill my family? Why did that person turn into ashes? There’s only one way I could find the answers to my questions: finding this mysterious guy.
