Chapter - 8

Norri I tried to sneak in and change my clothes before Alaric even got home, but Harvey was at the door with a pissed-off face when he saw me. What if he asked me anything? How would I tell him I had killed someone and was practically telling my story to a stranger? If Harvey knew, that meant Alaric would know. “What in God’s name happened to you?” he said while rushing towards me. “Miss Elenor? What did you do now?” I didn’t say anything or even look at him. I walked straight into the house and to my room. Harvey didn’t even ask any questions anymore. I shut the door to my room and crumbled to the ground. What have I done? I killed someone, and now I am a werewolf? I was on the floor, letting my tears fall. I didn’t know what I was going to do or how to survive all this. I heard a knock on the door. It must be Harvey. I was still thinking about what I should tell him when I heard someone banging on the door. One thing Harvey must never do. Then I heard Alaric say something. “Norri?” “Yes,” I said while going through my closet to change into something. “Meet me in the living room in five.” “Okay,” I said. I wondered what he wanted now, or if Harvey had told him about what I had been up to. Of course, he did; why wouldn’t he? I changed into something and went downstairs. Harvey was standing near Alaric, and they were talking about something I couldn’t hear from here. They looked up when they heard my footsteps. I looked at Harvey, but he was back to his stoic face. “Why did you ask me to—” “You know there are decent schools here.” “Okay, why—” He cut me off again. “You know you should get into one and complete your high school—” I cut him off. “You’ve gotta be kidding me.” My heart was pounding like it was ready to jump out of my chest. He wasn’t talking about me sneaking out, but something else. I looked at Harvey. “SCHOOL?” Harvey nodded. “You have to have your normal life, Miss, away from all these things.” “You have to,” Alaric added. “School is the last thing I want to focus on now,” I said. “That’s the reason I am asking you to.” He paused. “Look, we didn’t have a choice, but you have one. Forget about all this and have a normal life like a human,” Alaric said, brushing his temples. “What do you mean by a normal life? I am being chased by people who want to kill me, and some people want to use me for their own benefit, and now you want me to have a normal life?” I said. Alaric stood up and took a few steps towards me. “The reason your parents moved away from all of this is because you kids would have a normal, happy life. That’s what they must have wanted me to do now,” he added. “Also, don’t you worry about those people.” He pointed at the back door that led to the kitchen. “I’ve got everything under control.” “Wait? Did you find that guy and kill him or something?” I asked. Harvey sighed, and Alaric shook his head. “Seriously, you kids need to stop watching way too many movies.” “Harvey, take her.” “Take me where?” “Just to the kitchen, Miss. Don’t worry.” We stepped into the kitchen, and there was someone chanting something like she was in a movie. I looked at Harvey, and Alaric was behind him. “How long will it take?” “Almost done,” she said. After a few minutes, a fire blew up on the counter where there were crystals. “Done.” She looked at Alaric. “Is this the girl?” “Yes,” Alaric said. She walked towards me. “Here.” She offered me a necklace with a crystal on it. “Take it. It will keep you away from those people,” Alaric said. I took it and wore it. “So this is going to keep me away from those killer clans? How?” I chuckled. “What are you? A sorcerer or something?” She smiled. “Close. A witch.” That didn’t blow my mind at all. She could do spells? Why was I even surprised by it? After I had seen all those things about vampires and werewolves. “Wear this at all times. Your essence will be cloaked, and no one will know it is you,” she added. “Technically, you are just invisible to every supernatural being. They wouldn’t even know it was you.” I nodded. “That sums up everything.” One question lingered in my head: what if this thing didn’t work since I was already turned?
