Chapter - 7

“No, it can’t be. It’s not how it’s supposed to be.” I looked at him. He grabbed my hands.

“You’re a werewolf?” I yanked my hand away.

“I think I should go.” But my legs wouldn’t let me. I felt excruciating pain, and it hit me like all my bones were snapping at once. I fell to the ground, his hands wrapped around my shoulders.

“Let’s get out of here first.” I didn’t argue since I had no idea what I had to do now. I didn’t know if I could even tell Alaric about all this.

All of a sudden, everything went black, and all I could think about was how my family had been murdered that night. The pictures of it played in my head. I couldn’t cry. I could only stand there like a statue, watching them cry and get killed. The warm air brushed my hair, which made me turn, and I was losing my breath like someone had sucked all the oxygen out of the room.

I took a long breath and opened my eyes. “What’s going on?” I looked at him. He was on the ground, his hand on his shoulder, and his shirt was covered in blood. “Are those bloodstains?”

Everything was blurry for a while, so I was confused about what was real and what wasn’t. I looked around. It looked like we were in a crypt, and I was lying on the ground, with my clothes torn apart like they were when Alaric turned. I slowly tried to get up.

“How are you feeling now?” He rushed to my side.

I shook my head. “I don’t know. A few minutes ago, it felt like I’d been hit by lightning and broken every bone in my body, but right now, I don’t feel anything.”

“That’s how it’s supposed to—” I cut him off.

“How did you get those? Are they—” He helped me up. “That’s nothing. Let’s get you home.”

We were out of the crypt, and then I saw the ashes where the bodies were supposed to be.

“Did I turn?” I asked.

He was quiet for a while, and then he nodded. I sighed. “I don’t even know your name.”

He tilted his head. “Hmm… it’s Rylan.”

I nodded. “You’re an Alpha?” he asked.

I was stuttering to answer, wondering if I should even answer his question. “I mean, I—”

“You don’t even have to answer.” His hand was wrapped around my waist, giving me warmth in the cold air.

I tilted my head when he said, “You know what Alphas can do?” I nodded as if I had known, but I had no idea what they were capable of or what powers they possessed. As a matter of fact, all this felt like a fever dream. A few days ago, I was a normal girl, and now everything had changed. The things that existed only in stories had started happening to me, and it was unbelievable.

“They are the leaders of the pack, and they can turn whenever they want,” he added. We were out of the cemetery in a few minutes.

“Let me drop you off,” he said.

“No, I am good. The thing is, my house is just around the corner.”

I didn’t want him to know where I lived. If Alaric saw me hanging out with some stranger, he would snap at me or, worse, lock me up. I knew that seemed impossible, but that man would do anything. Moreover, I had no idea how I was supposed to tell him that I killed someone and turned.

Just then, Rylan’s phone started buzzing constantly. “I have to take this.”

I nodded. “Don’t worry. I think I’m gonna leave.” I pointed at the road.

He nodded. I started walking when I heard him.

“Here, take this coat. Get home safe.”

I nodded. “Will I see you around?”

He smirked and nodded. “Yes, love. You will.”
