Chapter 6

Melrose Brown

Attack after attack, Madison’s brown wolf launches itself at me over and over. I try my hardest to avoid her manic assault. I have lost count of the claw and teeth marks that now litter my beautiful red fur.

I close my eyes as she comes at me again, exhaustion now taking over me.

“Enough!” comes the booming voice of the Alpha, looking down at me with nothing but disgust. He turns to his son who is now back in human form, pulling on a pair of shorts someone had handed him.

“Make the decision, but remember the pack won't tolerate a traitor as a Luna” he growls at his son when he steps up beside him. Zain looks down at me with the same sneer of disgust on his face. “Shift back!” The older Alpha demands, I feel the air around me get colder as my fur gives way to my skin. Leaving me lying naked on the floor.

Zain steps forward, I don’t know what I was expecting, but the minute he starts my wolf starts to howl in pain, the agonising reality that our mate doesn't want us; not that I would want him but she doesn’t understand.

“I Zain Thorn, future Alpha of the Crimson Moon pack, reject you, Melrose Brown as my mate, and Luna!”

The pain is like nothing I have ever experienced before, and coming from me that is something. I am now on all fours, struggling to breath as another pain comes, making me scream out in agony.

I manage to look up at a smirking Zain, “I accept your rejection” I say through clenched teeth. Zain’s hand flies to his chest as the bond snaps. Tears run down my face but I refuse to look away from him as he pulls a now smug looking Madison to him.

He slides his hand into her hair and roughly yanks her head to the side before he sinks his teeth into her neck, marking her as his chosen mate. It becomes harder to breathe as the rain comes down in sheets. I watch through the rain as he says the word.

“I Zain Thorn take Madison North to be my chosen Luna” His eyes never leave me, each word like a knife to the chest. My wolf howls in pain as I get to my shaky legs, refusing to allow them to see me shatter.

I don’t know what happened, but like my soul has been split in two the sky above us splits as black shadows appear. I watch in amazement as they make their way from the heavens to us. No one except me seems to have noticed, like a staircase from heaven a cloaked figure makes its way towards us.

I know I should be afraid, I know this is not normal but the bigger part of me feels no fear towards this being as it comes towards us. The black shadow moves as if part of him, he makes his way in my direction. He stops about ten feet away, he slowly slides his hood down.

My breath catches in my throat as the creature stands about seven feet tall, his expression not giving anything away as he stands looking at me with his head tilted to the side. His eyes one gold, one red just like that day in the river. He smirks as if he understands my realisation that we have met before.

His dark skin looks almost like glitter under the moonlight, he is breathtakingly beautiful. His hair is short but pure white against his dark skin making it stand out. I feel myself wanting to go to him, but I am stuck to the spot. A slow easy smile starts to spread over his handsome face.

I see the movement from the side of me as Zain moves in between us, his chest heaving as his arrogant Alpha aura swirls around him facing this unknown being.

“She is mine!” Zain growls at the figure, who just smirks at him.

“Not yet, little red, but I have heard you” the voice is so close to my ear I spin around confused. I look back at the man. He winked at me looking right past Zain as if he wasn’t there.

As fast as he appeared he disappeared, the dawn breaking just past the horizon. I blink a few times wondering if I had just imagined it. Zain grabs me by the hair, his face so close to me I could feel his breath on my face. I hissed in pain as the red hot agony of him ripping my hair from the roots.

“Don’t get any ideas,Jinx, I may have rejected you but you are still mine”

My eyes go wide and I need to get away from here. From him, it is so overwhelming I make a decision I know I will probably come to regret later. I bring back my foot and kick as hard as I can, catching him in the groin.

He lets go of my hair as both hands go to his crotch while he drops to his knees. Well I hope he doesn't want any pups, I think as I turn to sprint for the border. My heart races as I push forward wishing I was still on my paws. My naked body is being ripped at, by branches and bushes as I go, my bare feet now torn to bits from the terrain.

The sheer desperation pushing me forward, as the need to get away from him, from Zain. I can see the border, the feeling of joy is short lived as I spot a movement from my left. I don’t get much further when a big brown and black wolf knocks into me.

I land with a sickening thud the wind being driven out my lungs from the impact. I am almost positive I have broken something as my breaths come in short bursts. I look up as a figure stands over me, Jax. He brings back his foot and that's when it goes dark.

I wake to someone tapping on my cheek, without opening my eyes I growl at whoever is attempting to wake me. I hear a slight chuckle, my eyes fly open. I hear the rattle of chains, looking down I realise they are attached to me.

SHIT!

I look around but the only thing I see is them, the stand smirking down at me. Oh, Melrose what have you gotten yourself into, is all I can think.

Realising I am now chained to the four poster bed of none other than Zain.

The two sets of eyes that watch me have very different expressions on them. Madison watches with so much hostility I smirk; she really hates me.

Zain has a strange look on his face as he comes to stand beside his b***h, pulling her to him. I close my eyes, not interested in anything they have to say.

I yelp as Zain grabs my jaw forcing me to look up at him. I attempt to make him let go but honestly the force of his grip makes my eyes snap to his, he’s so close. His scent floods my senses once again.
