Chapter 1: Collaboration
1
The sun peeked in through the blinds, hitting Nikolas straight in the face. The young Alpha groaned, sitting up and blinking to focus his eyesight. He glanced around his surroundings and let out a soft sigh when he realized that he was still in his office.
The blonde man ruffled his hair, trying to untangle the knots that had formed while he slept but to no luck. His hair decided to stay stubborn as if telling him that unless he took proper care of it, it would remain that way.
Nikolas rolled his eyes as he pushed himself away from his desk, standing up and stretching his tired, sore body and sighing in relief when his bones popped, alleviating the pressure that had accumulated into them. The clock on the wall adjacent to him read 6:43 in the morning which meant that his secretary would not be here for another 2 hours. The blonde decided to go home for a bit to freshen up, eat something, then return and get back to work. He was a workaholic and for good reasons.
You see, Nikolas Kirilov was a name that was extremely famous in the streets of Russia as well as the rest of the world. Being an Alpha and the CEO of one of the biggest companies in the film industries at only 27 had its perks, after all.
Although the young CEO had everything he could possibly want, he didn’t have one thing: a mate. It was an important piece in this world. Mates kept each other levelheaded, making sure rash decisions rarely occurred. They were the yin and the yang, balancing each other out, so being young and successful but mateless was something that was unheard of.
Nikolas however, didn’t just want to find a mate. He wanted to find his true mate. True Mates were the other half of a person’s soul. Their soulmate that the moon goddess destined them to be with. This was rare, however, and chances to find your true mate was very small. Nikolas didn’t care though.
He’d rather be all alone than without his true mate.
As the Alpha male grabbed his blazer from its place on the back of his chair, his phone went off, surprising him but he quickly grabbed the device off his desk, glancing at the caller ID before answering the call.
“Hello?”
“Niki! Where in the name of God are you?” Nikolas rolled his eyes at the sound of his best friend’s voice. The man was an Omega and it was probably just his motherly instincts kicking in, but he could be so annoying sometimes, though Nikolas had to give him some credit. If it weren’t for him, Nikolas would probably have drowned in his own paperwork.
“Adrian, I’m at the office, where else would I be?” he answered smoothly as he walked out of his office towards the elevator.
“Don’t ‘at the office’ me! Do you know what time it is?”
“6, almost 7 in the morning?”
“Exactly and where the hell should you be?”
“Home,” the elevator dinged, opening its doors as Nikolas stepped in, pressing the button that would take him to the underground parking lot.
“Exactly. When I got here last night to check on you, you weren’t there. I thought you’d come back in a bit since it was already midnight but I ended up falling asleep and when I woke up your ass is still not at home,” Adrian ranted and Nikolas rolled his eyes.
“Jeez, can you calm down? I ended up falling asleep here and I woke up a couple of minutes ago,” Nikolas explained and he could hear the Omega huff on the other side.
“Whatever, just get yourself over. You’re calling in sick and don’t even try to argue with me because you haven’t taken a single day off since last Christmas and it’s already almost Russia day!” Adrian continued to nag the tall blonde male who continued to listen while mentally thinking of ways to shut his friend up.
“Alright, alright. I’ll be there in 20 minutes,” Nikolas said as the elevator doors opened.
“Make that 15. I’ll make breakfast,” Adrian said and before the older male could argue, the call was already cut. Huffing at his best friend’s antics, Nikolas sauntered over to his car and got in, throwing his blazer onto the passenger’s seat as he got ready for the drive home.

Nikolas was born into a middle-class family, the youngest out of two children and although his family was not rich, they were comfortable, which was all that mattered to the Alpha. When his father passed away, however, it was a different story.
The Kirilov family spiralled into debt and his mother, Adelina, turned to drugs to make matters worse. Nikolas had only been 14 at the time of his father’s death but he and his older brother Mikhael, who was a Beta, had to work many jobs in order to support their crumbling family.
Finally, when Nikolas was 17, his mother died of an overdose and his brother became ill with pneumonia, passing away shortly after his mother. To say Nikolas had gone through some tough times was an understatement.
The boy had to continue working in order to feed himself and moreover, he had decided to honour his brother, who had wanted to go to university and study but couldn’t due to the family’s financial status, by enrolling in the top university in Russia and getting a full scholarship.
From there on, Nikolas worked to the bone to find success and finally when he was 21, he opened a small film company which he called "Krasota". The name meant ‘beauty’ in his mother tongue and he decided to name it this to show to the world that the only movies he would produce were those whose plots have beauty and meaning behind them.
By the time the man eventually had turned 25, he and the company had become incredibly famous, gaining millions of viewers and supporters from around the globe, and now here he was.
A self-made billionaire.

The blonde Alpha arrived home within 10 minutes and when he entered his big, empty house, all he could hear was Adrian’s loud, off-key singing and the sound of the TV. He took off his shoes and walked over to the living room, placing his blazer on the couch before making his way over to the kitchen where Adrian was.
“You need to get your ears checked if you think you sound good,” Nikolas said as he entered the kitchen, scaring the poor brunette at his sudden appearance. Adrian spun around so fast that Nikolas was sure he’d get whiplash.
“When did you get here? And how many times have I told you to stop creeping up on me like that?!” the brunette huffed, making Nikolas grin. The two men had been best friends since the beginning of University so they had known each other long enough to see each other going through both good and bad times.
“You said and I quote ‘don’t scare me like that or else my poor heart is going to give away before I find my mate’. Besides, I came in like 5 minutes ago. If that was a burglar, you’d be dead by now,” Nikolas snickered and Adrian rolled his eyes.
“Shut up, and by the way, I’ll have you know that my singing is amazing. I’ve serenaded many lovers with it so maybe it’s your ears that need to be checked,” Adrian said as he turned his attention back to the stove to finish cooking whatever he was cooking.
“By ‘many’ do you mean that one boyfriend who you claimed was your soulmate but ended up dumping 2 days later?” Nikolas teased and the Omega pouted.
“Shut it. Go change and freshen up. I’ll put the food out for you,”
Honestly, what would Nikolas do without Adrian and his motherly nagging? That’s right, he’d probably be drowning in his own paperwork.
“Mm, I will. Thanks, Ade,” Nikolas said, patting the slightly younger male’s shoulder as he walked out of the kitchen to shower and change into something a bit more comfortable.

“Hey Nikolas your phone’s been going crazy for the past 5 minutes and if you don’t pick up, I swear to god I’m going to throw it against the wall,” Adrian said, not taking his eyes off the TV where a shitty rom-com movie was playing.
Nikolas looked up from his iPad, glancing at the glass coffee table where his phone was indeed vibrating like crazy. He groaned, reaching the device before answering the call.
“Hello?”
“Mr. Kirilov, I know you called in sick and I’m sorry for bothering you but it’s something very urgent,” Nikolas sighed at his secretary’s voice. Angelina, his secretary, was a small but feisty woman who, when angry or irritated, could turn into anyone’s worst enemy.
“That’s alright, but do you mind at least telling me what is happening? I could just try to convince the client by phone,” the blonde reasoned but he could hear Angelina telling someone to give her a minute before she answered him once again.
“Sorry about that, sir. Mr. Collet wants to meet you and he has personally come to see you to negotiate a potential movie together,” Angelina tells him and immediately Nikolas is sat up.
Gabriel Collet, the CEO of a famous French film production company "Caméra de la Lumière" and a well-known director, was one of Nikolas’ biggest business partners and the man coming from France all the way to St. Petersburg was a big deal seeing as the older Alpha never seemed to leave his home country.
“Alright let him know I’ll be there in half an hour. In the meantime, entertain him. Show him around,” Nikolas instructed and when Angelina confirmed, the man hung up, bolting up from his spot on the couch.
“Lemme guess, something urgent came up and you gotta go?” Adrian said, eyes still glued to the TV screen. Nikolas hummed.
“Yeah, Gabriel came here to negotiate a potential movie with my company so I have to go. You know how that old fart is. He barely leaves his office, let alone his country,” Nikolas said as he got off the couch, rushing upstairs to change into proper attire.
A few minutes later, he was back downstairs in a white button-up shirt and black slacks.
“I’m leaving now, Drivya. Lock the gates if you leave,” Nikolas called out and before the Omega could reply, he was out the door and in his car. His office wasn’t too far thankfully and because it was still fairly early in the morning, there wasn’t much traffic, so Nikolas was able to arrive in record time.
When he walked into the top floor, where his office was located, he saw Angelina smiling and talking to Gabriel and his men. He quickly moved up to them and cleared his throat, smiling politely when they turned to face him.
Angelina looked relieved whereas Gabriel looked a bit irritated, but it nothing that he couldn’t handle. He nodded at his secretary, nonverbally thanking her as he gave a slight bow before retreating back to her desk.
“Sorry about that Mr. Collet, I was feeling a bit under the weather,” Nikolas explained, switching to English and the older man smiled, shaking his head.
“Don’t worry about it. Your secretary was showing me around the building and I have to say, it’s very richly decorated,” Gabriel said, his accent thick. The man motioned to their surroundings and Nikolas beamed internally.
He had handpicked the paintings, the colour schemes, the plants, the interior design and the furniture for the entire building so he had every right to be proud of Gabriel’s compliment.
“Thank you, Mr. Collet. Let’s talk in my office, shall we?” the blonde led the older man and his men into his office, closing the door behind him before walking over to his table, motioning the French man and his companion to sit as he sat in his own chair.
“So, Angelina told me you wanted to talk about a movie production together?” Nikolas started once the man had sat down. The older nodded, leaning back into the chair.
“Yes, yes. One of my screenwriters and producers came up with a very interesting story plot and I know your team can handle it a lot better than mine can so I decided to come here to see if you wanted to collaborate,” Gabriel began and Nikolas nodded, listening intently to what Gabriel was saying.
This was something big and although Nikolas had collaborated with other companies, they were never as big and as well known as "Caméra de la Lumière" so when Gabriel told him he wanted Nikolas’ company to direct the movie and create a cast while Caméra de la lumière would handle the props and staging. The two companies would help with the cost and Nikolas thought it was a good idea.
It would cost his company less to direct the movie and pick a cast and since Gabriel was handling the more expensive parts of the movie, Nikolas agreed.
“Alright then. I’m glad you agreed to the collaboration. It’s going to be a phenomenal movie and I look forward to working with you,” Gabriel reached his hand out for a handshake as the meeting ended.
“Yes, me too. If you don’t mind, can I come over to the little town where the movie will be shot? I want to get a feel for it before I tell the film crew to start scouting actors,” Nikolas said and Gabriel nodded.
“Yes of course. Think of it as a small vacation. Angelina told me you haven’t taken a day off in quite a while, which might be why you’re feeling so unwell. Your health comes before money,” Gabriel told Nikolas who nodded.
“Anyways, I’ll send you the details. For now, I must return. Let me know if you have any questions,” the older Alpha told Nikolas who thanked him for coming as he led him to the door. Once Gabriel was gone, Nikolas sat back down onto his chair, thinking deeply.
Maybe he should take a vacation.
Quickly, he pulled out his phone and texted Adrian.
Pack your bags, Adi, we’re going on a vacation
