Prologue
The smoke built clouds of grey in the sky. The metallic scent of blood infiltrating her lungs. She heard screams from outside the wooden barrel she had been placed in. Screams of dying men. Of warriors. Of victory over conquering another kingdom. Her kingdom. It had been in the middle of the night, when the Lidian army marched their forces into her lands. They burnt down houses, slaughtered those who dained to fight back and mascred those who tried to flee. And then they came to the royal palace. She had no memories of what happened after they stormed through the palace gates. It was a faze. A show if black and white with the occasional crimson red. Then she'd woken up here. In a crampy wooden barrel in what seemed to be a moving cart. Golden light creeped into the barrel through the it's little spaces. She wondered if her family were still alive. The king and queen of Ribaria and the crowned prince. Her older brother. She'd been waiting for the melancholic feeling to creep in, but it never came. They had been moving for what seemed to be an entire day. She'd heard the voices of two males who were probably her capturers, when they'd stopped at a check point a few yards back. But they had been hushed. Distant. Everything around her felt distant. Like she was watching it all from another room and it disappear if she turned her head the other way. The wagon came to an abrupt stop. She felt as the melancholic atmosphere shifted to a phenomenal eerieness. " I think we turned into the wrong path." she heard one the males say. "Help." The other said shakily. The wagon shoke and the air turned cold. " Pit, what's wrong with you?" the first voice asked in a panicked tone. She looked through one of the tiny holes and spied a brown haired man in the Lidian amour laying on the ground. A hand around his kneck, as though trying to free himself from an invisible noose. She watched as he struggled, fighting for air, till he went still. As still as the dead. Because that's what he was. Dead.
