The stretch limo glided over the city streets like a black shark through water, its glossy surface reflecting the garish neon lights of downtown. I pressed my cheek against the cool glass of the window, trying to calm my racing heart. The city outside was a blur of people and lights, but my mind was somewhere else entirely—somewhere in the shadows of my past, where memories were fragmented, like the pieces of a shattered mirror. "Isn't this nice?" Jade's voice cut through the silence, sharp and sugary like a poisoned apple. She was seated across from me, her legs crossed with the casual elegance of someone who'd been raised in luxury. Marcy and Grace flanked her, their eyes on me like vultures watching a wounded animal. "Yeah," I mumbled, my fingers curling into fists on my lap.
