Cassie perched on Reid’s shoulders, giggling like mad as he ran through the sand, chasing after seagulls and sending them into flight. Lightness filled me with all the warmth of the sun descending toward the horizon, and strangely, for the first time in months, no worry over the future ate at my stomach.
I laughed along with my daughter, uncaring that my heart had softened toward Reid. Unable to help myself, I fell harder for him with his every word, gaze, and action. From the long talks we’d shared to the Princess Sophia coloring book and crayons he’d gifted Cassie for using the big girl potty, he revealed his attentive nature.
