I hadn’t even parked in my parent’s driveway, and my entire family streamed out of their house. All three sisters, their husbands, and five wild kids tumbled across the front lawn while Mom and Dad stayed up on the stoop, hands clasped between them.
“Oh boy,” Jessie breathed the words like a curse, and I glanced over to find her eyes wide, pure panic lashing over her features.
Putting the car into park, I reached over and laced my fingers through hers. “They’re going to love you. Promise.”
She swallowed hard and glanced into the back seat.
“They’ll love Cassie too.”
“No way!” Cassie hollered, and I chuckled.
“Unca!” Small fists beat on the driver’s door, and my grin widened at the fiasco to come.
“Ready?” I asked.
